Title of Lesson: Brush Our Cavities Away!

Concept Statement: The children will enhance their personal hygiene skills by engaging in a dental care
themed activity.

Materials
 Book: Brush Your Teeth Please by: Leslie Mcguire, Illustrated by: Jean Pidgeon
 Song: Brush Your Teeth
 Large model teeth and toothbrush
 18 laminated teeth
 1 dry erase marker
  18 tooth brushes
 18 dentists bags

Directions/Steps/Process
Motivation
I will enter circle time with the children holding a model of teeth, and a large tooth brush.
I will ask the children “do you know how many teeth you have?”
Steps
1. When a child responds to how many teeth they have, I will then ask the children if they would like to
hear me read the book Brush Your Teeth Please by Leslie Mcguire Illustrated by Jean Pidgeon.
2. As I read the story I will ask questions about the book to make sure the children are staying engaged.
“when should we brush our teeth?” “how long should we brush our teeth for?”
3. When the book had ended, I will ask the children if they would like to do a brushing your cavities away
activity.
4. I will do this activity as a large group.
5. I will have each child pick their favorite color tooth brush one by one and then they can go sit at the
table.
6. I will explain the activity to the children before they begin.
7. I will then walk around observing the children doing the activity and assist if needed.
8. I will assist the children with clean up when each child finishes the activity.
9. I will direct the children back to circle time area.
Conclusion
I will sing the Brush Your Teeth Song with the children. The words along with the visuals will be hung-
up on the wall for the children to follow along and sing throughout the day
Transition
I will have each child pick a dentist bag to put in their locker. After putting the bag in their locker they
can wash their hands for lunch.
