Analysis

Reviewing the scores from the unit, I overall was very pleased with the results. I
think the district underestimates the ability of the students with the summative
assessment they provide. However, with limited time in a school day I do not think
the district plans for teachers to spend as much time on the unit as I did. That being
said, the students preformed very well on the summative assessment. They knew
more than what was on the test and following the test were commenting on how
short it was. A big change I would make if I were to do this unit again would be to
add on a more hands on summative assessment. The district assessment needs to
get done, but I would make that just a small part in a larger project.

The quizzes were a huge help in driving my instruction. The students initially were
not huge fans of having daily quizzes, but it grew on them as they viewed them as
more of a chance to review and show what they know. There were a few times that I
could tell kids were lost on a question on the quiz, so then I knew we would need to
review that after the quiz before the next lesson. It was helpful to keep all the
supplies in your room until the unit is done because when reviewing tough quiz
questions it helped students’ understanding to see demonstrations of the concept.
