How to reach IISc ?
Trivia’s:
Local name for IISc is 'Tata Institute’. Always use 'Tata Institute' with the taxi, auto drivers, and
bus conductors. Auto rickshaw and taxi drivers can generally converse in Kannada, Tamil,
Telugu, and Hindi.
IISc is about 30 km from the Bangalore Airport (both domestic and International). Prepaid
taxis are available at the airport to all parts of the city. While both private (OLA, Uber ) and
airport taxis are available. In addition to it, BMTC runs AC buses (Vayu Vajra) from Airport to
all parts of Bangalore. If one wants to commute by bus from Airport, board the bus which
goes towards Yeshwanthpur and mention ‘Tata Institute’ to the Conductor or driver.
Bus Number ‘KIAS-10’ or ‘KIA-10’ travel between IISc and the Airport.
The main railway station in Bangalore is called Bangalore City which is about 7 km from IISc.
The railway station and the main bus stand (called as Majestic) are opposite to each other.
Pre-paid auto rickshaw facility is available at the Bangalore City Railway Station. You
could tell the counterperson that you are travelling to Tata Institute. You can also use the
bus services from the Majestic bus station: Bus Route nos. 252 E, 258 C, 271 series, 273 series,
275, 99 A and B . Alight at TATA INSTITUTE Bus Stop.
Another important railway station in Bangalore is Cantonment Railway Station, also known
as Bangalore Cantt. The distance from this station to IISc is almost same as the Bangalore
City railway station and it also has prepaid auto rickshaw facility. You can also use the bus
services from the bus stop just opposite to the station. Route Nos. 94 A and E, 252 A, 270 A,
272, 276 A .
Yeshwanthpur is a small railway station, located within Bangalore, but it is NOT the main
railway station of Bangalore. One good thing about Yeshwanthpur is that it is very close to
IISc, but very few trains stop here. The auto rickshaw ride from Yeshwanthpur to IISc will
cost around Rs. 50 to Rs. 80.
After reaching IISc:
MANAGEMENT STUDIES building is present on the other side of campus near Prakruthi
eatery. You can ask any security for guidance. For convenience a campus map is put here. Try
to reach Satish Dhawan Auditorium (on the map location 9). This auditorium is directly
connected to Management studies building and this is the convenient landmark.
