Intro to college campus “Racism”

NARRATOR 2
According to Oxford dictionary, racism is
defined as prejudice, discrimination, or
antagonism directed against someone of a
different race based on the belief that
ones own race is superior.
WHAT’S YOUR OPINION ON RACISM?
INTERVIEW 1
It’s something that shouldn’t exist. Uh, I
believe that we shouldn’t be judged by how
we look, where we come from, or, uhm.. our
love interest? I think that we should all
just be respectful to each other.
INTERVIEW 2
It’s not good for anybody.
INTERVIEW 3
I mean.. it’s kinda like, as much as
people like to say it’s not around like,
it still kind of is

2
(Parenthetical information)
INTERVIEW 2
Oh yeah for sure.
INTERVIEW 4
Yeah, I don’t agree with it. Uhm, I, but I
feel like people have a misconception of
what racism actually is.
COLLEGE STUDENTS WALKING ON CAMPUS
NARRATOR 2
Over the years racism has been improving,
but it’s still a problem we can continue
to see now and then. It can be seen every
day upon many platforms such as..
PRESIDENT OBAMA: U.S IS NOT CURED OF RACISM
NARRTOR 3
The massacre in South Carolina shocked the
nation and jolted the first African
American president to speak with un
presidented candor about racial tensions
and gun violence.
OBAMA
‘Racism. We are not cured of.”
THE SIMPSONS’ UNDER FIRE OVER CONCERN ABOUT RACISM
NARRATOR 4
Backlash against the Simpsons shows under fire
for how it responded criticism of one of it’s
most famous characters..
THE PROSPECTOR ARTICLES
NARRATOR 2
The Prospector, a famous source of information on
campus, stipulated that in 1975, student formed a
group known as SCAR that aimed to expose racism
at all levels of the University. According to
them, racism had been seen throughout campus. It

3
involved not only students. Many actions were
displayed into trying to resolve the issue using
methods of protest, trying to expose those of
higher power on campus. Many reports of the issue
have been recorded on more than one occasion.
HAVE YOU EVERY EXPERIENCED RACSIM IN SOME SORT OF WAY?
INTERVIEW 1
Yeah so I work at a hotel and I get a lot of
people from different places and one day it was
a.. muslim! Yes! So she came up to me and she was
really rude because I was Mexican. So she asked
me where I was from and then she told me I didn’t
look so bad to be Mexican. So she was really
racist.
Interview 4
Uh not explicitly but maybe implicitly. Yeah.
INTERVIEW 2
Yeah. I mean I look.. it’s sad to say but my skin
tone has got me through life pretty chillin..
INTERVIEW 4
Haha
INTERVIEW 2
I’m Mexican, but everyone thinks I’m white. Haha.
SNAPCHAT PHOTO FALLOUT
NARRATOR 5
A snapchat photo of white individuals pointing a
toy gun at a black doll. Some African American
marquet students they take that as a threat.
NARRATOR 6
We walk around here on this campus. We don’t know
whether they have a real one or a fake one and if
its ever going to be pointed at us.
NARRATOR 7

4
The relationship between black and brown students
and every other student on campus has been
broken.
WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE DONE TO TRY AND STOP RACISM?
INTERVIEW 1
I dint think there is anything we can actually do
because that’s.. people are not going to change
you cant do something to change, to like.. change
peoples opinions.
INTERVIEW 4
I believe what needs to be done is less on an
individual basis and more on a societal basis.
There’s things that happen within our systems as
a society that inheritantly makes us implicitly
racist. So its not like you grow up being racist
but because of certain structures those
structures, you might be biased to certain
genders or even races that we have to start
tackling ourselves in a systematic way less than
a person individually.
INTERVIEW 2
Yeah I don’t even know how. I mean its just a lot
of narrow mindedness. People don’t like to see
things in different point of view.
