Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health

 Vision and Mission


o To create a network of youth leaders and youth organizations in schools and communities in the
Philippines who will champion in increasing public awareness on existing health programs, and
on the significance of healthy lifestyle at an early age.
o Specifically, VYLH aims to:
 Organize youth and youth groups to conduct awareness campaigns in schools and
communities focused on the advocacies of the network
 Conduct research on the current knowledge and perception of the youth about folic acid,
preterm births and birth defects through survey forms
 Conduct promotional activities among the youth with main topics based on the results of the
research
 Develop informational materials that will increase the knowledge and perception of the
general public about folic acid, preterm births, birth defects, newborn screening, and other
health concerns.
 It is bound by the principles of leadership, commitment, advocacy, and volunteerism.
B. Child Health in Life and Development Foundation, Inc.

 Established on January 30, 1992 by senior consultants and alumni of the Department of Pediatrics and
University of the Philippines College of Medicine
Purpose: To assist the Pediatrics Department of UP-PGH in being more responsive to the health needs
and aspirations of the Filipino children, particularly the indigent patients who cannot afford the medical
treatment that they need. It is a hospital-based organization. 


 Vision
o The CHILD, Inc. will distinguish itself as the prime support of the Department of Pediatrics of UP-
PGH in being more responsive to the health needs and aspirations of the Filipino Children and
will be recognized for the passion of its members in supporting its service-oriented endeavors.
 Mission
o The CHILD, Inc. mission is to actively support the service-oriented endeavors of the Department
of Pediatrics by providing financial support for the benefit their patients and for the
professional advancement of its members. Our goal is to be able to augment the resources
needed to ensure that patients of the Department of Pediatrics will have the medicines, supplies
and equipment they need to attain good health.
C. Health Justice Philippines

 Health Justice Philippines is a non-stock, non-profit organization created to bridge the gap between public
health and law in the country to enable Filipinos to make informed and empowered health choices. In order to
actualize their advocacy, the organization bring together professionals from the relevant fields of science,
medicine, economics, and law to create powerful tools for policy change. The founding members include
doctors, lawyers and economists who have been recognized for their services in both public and private
sectors. The organization was established in 2009 and it focused mainly on tobacco control as the founders
believed that most of the diseases that have high mortality in the Philippines has smoking as their risk factor.
 Vision
o A nation where the right to health is recognized and respected, health risks are minimized, health
policies are implemented, and health disparities reduced by empowered, enabled, and enlightened
Filipinos.
 Mission
o Health Justice Philippines aims to bridge the gap between health and law through building
knowledge and competencies among key stakeholders to achieve policy changes the will promote
the health of Filipinos.
D. Bahay Aruga

 Vision
o The house aims to provide free accommodation to Pediatric Cancer patients undergoing
chemotherapy at the Philippine General Hospital which is just a few minutes walk from the House.
Most of these patients live outside Metro Manila and travel to Manila to get the best cancer treatment
not available in the provinces.
 Mission
o The organization’s mission, according to the group, is to inspire, hope and uplift the lives of kids
with cancer and rare genetic diseases by providing them with life-improving and life-saving
assistance.
E. The Hope Project

 As a university organization that focuses on volunteerism, happiness, and hope, The Hope Project (also known
as THP) is a non-profit organization based in the University of the Philippines, Manila that was established on
July 2014 by Fatima Vista, a student from the same university. The organization was originally adapted from
the Kythe-Ateneo, the student arm of Kythe Foundation, Inc.
 Vision & Mission
o The organization aims to promote and ensure the normal growth of a child confined in the
hospital setting as well as to provide psychosocial support and charitable aid for pediatric
patients with chronic illnesses.
o THP envisions and aims to turn commiseration into action by forming its members holistically through
member formations, project involvements and hospital volunteerism. They organize various on- and
off-campus advocacies, finance projects, and member formation activities, as well as hospital visits
to the Philippine General Hospital’s pediatric ward, Cancer Institute, Bahay Aruga, Child House, and
more to fulfill their mission as an organization.
F. Youth for Mental Health Coalition

 Youth for Mental Health Coalition, Inc. or Y4MHC is a group of student organizations and youth advocates
that work to elevate the Filipino youth’s consciousness on mental health and end the stigma on mental illness.
 Vision
o By 2020, Y4MH envisions a group that actively advocates for youth mental health with its
members participating in the national mental health service planning, delivery and evaluation.
 Mission
o We, youth advocates of mental wellness, commit ourselves to pursue coordinated activities to
educate the public on concepts of mental health to:
 promote mental well-being for all
 improve access to mental health services, and;
 decrease the social stigma attached to mental health illnesses.
