Principal Report’s Mrs. Tullio • Grade 2 (insight test) and Grade 7 (CAT 4) testing
finished up today. It tested reading, language,
spelling and math. The assessment determines
academic potential for the students.

• Kindergarten Open House last week had a good turn

out and was a great event. There were lots of staff
and teachers there to help out. So far we have 34 JK
and 1 SK registered.

• The Book Fair wrapped up today. It was very

successful. No totals are in as of yet.

• Kiss ’n Ride is an ongoing concern at Suzuki. There

was another parent complaint. Facility Services has
been spoken to. The City of Windsor was called
regarding the light at Jefferson Ave and Raymond.
Letters have gone home with students, a synervoice
has been sent. The problem continues and any
suggestions are useful for this on-going concern.

• Suzuki is having an Eco Fair which will be held on

April 11 from 4-6pm. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Martin
have been working hard organizing this event. They
have asked for $500 from parent council but it hasn’t
been used as of yet.

• April 5th will be A Day in the Life for kindergarten.

• Starting this week our Suzuki Library will be open on

Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 for new students.

• March 23, 2018 is a PA Day.

• Thursday, March 8th the Windsor Express will be

doing a presentation on growth mindset for the grades
3-8 students.

• Everyone is excited about the new Suzuki Mighty

Oaks picture frame.

Teacher’s Report Mrs. Lamoure
• The Grade 8s brought in nearly $900 from the
Valentines’s Dance. It was a lot of fun.

• The boys made it to the city finals in basketball.

• The girls made it to the quarter finals.

• Junior basketball (boys and girls) and badminton are

starting up now.

• The Pita Pit lunches have been very successful.

Orders have increased and we are hopeful the future
ones will be even better.

• A teacher asked for approval to use her Teacher

Support money to take a Board run mindfulness
course. It was agreed that this was not a parent
council decision but should be a decision made by the
principal.

Chair’s report Shayna Carey
Sound System Purchase
• We discussed whether we were going to allocate
money to this.
• Mr. Carroll has talked to Mrs. Roberts at length about
what is needed for the school.
• The current sound system is of lower quality
(Yorkville speakers, a cordless microphone and a
“brain” with ports and jacks)
• The speakers must fit in metal cages to protect them
from activities in the gym (balls etc).
• The estimate to get new speakers, brain and 2 cordless
microphones is $7000 - $10,000.
• Parent council asked Mr. Carroll to get quotes as we
would like to move forward with this purchase.

Fundraiser for Parent Council

• We will not be doing a read-a-thon this year.
• We are looking to make a change to something that is
more movement oriented.
• A walk-a-thon was proposed for this year and agreed
upon as a good idea.
• Friday, April 27th was decided upon with a rain date
of May 4th. (Approved by Tania Bulmer and Philippa
von Ziegenweidt)
• A date for a meeting for those able to help run this
event will be set up soon.
• A request for $1000 was made to purchase prizes for
this event. This was the amount requested other years
although the total amount was not used last year.
• We discussed having a Suzuki Challenge Cup where
the students are divided into teams (with different
grades) and they participate in various activities as a
fundraiser for another year.
Dr David Suzuki Parent Council Agenda
Treasurer’s Report Silvana Slavik • See attached budget sheet (change as of December 1,
2017 to as of February 2, 2018)
• Popcorn was updated and new supplies were
purchased.
• $4000 was taken for the Musical from the account and
put into a separate account.
• Teacher support money shows only $750 used. $3300
is being moved to the school account. Monies not
used will be put towards the school Musical.
• $200 expense for family of the mom who passed
away
• $216 expense for the chess club tournament
• $500 expense for the Eco Fair

• As of February 2, 2018 there was a balance of

$32,717.74.

Open Discussion Deb Sissons • Deb had spoken to Mrs. Roberts about the musical
and wanted to review some parent expectations.
• There will be no videography or photography allowed
during performances. This is a strict licensing issue.
• Photos will be taken by a professional photographer
and be available for purchase,
• We talked about doing a lottery draw for front row
seats to encourage excitement and school spirit and
discourage people coming early and holding seats for
others.
• We also discussed having the families of children in
the play having the opportunity to reserve seats in
some of the closer rows on one night of the play.
• This will be discussed in more detail by Mrs. Roberts
and the play committee to decide what would work
the best.

• Silvana proposed a motion for a wrap-up party for the

cast, crew, teachers and volunteers.
• The motion was approved by Shayna Carey and Deb
Sissons.
• Mr. Carroll will talk to Mrs. Roberts to determine
when, where and how much something like this
would cost.

Eco Fair
Silvana Slavik
• Philippa helps with a program called We Box. A
flyer was provided. People order and get a box full
of veggies.
• If people wish to purchase they will be able to pick
it up at the Eco Fair on April 11. $5.00 of the
purchase will go to the school. The boxes cost
$25.00.
• Philippa would also like to include a recipe for
stone soup (which can be made with some of the
box ingredients).
• She proposed that possibly she would have some at
Philippa von the Eco Fair for people to taste.
Ziegeleidt
• The Eco Fair flyer was presented and passed
around. It was noticed that some vendors were not
on the flyer and discussed that perhaps they be
added.
