Wii games recommendations

The following is a list of Wii games I recommend from an assortment of genres. Keep in mind that the
Wii was also able to play GameCube games from their discs and to play games from the NES, Super NES,
Nintendo 64, Sega Master System, Mega Drive, TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo, Commodore 64, MSX and a vari-
ety of Arcade games on the Virtual Console.
All entries have a short description of the game itself and multiplayer options, and icons on top indicat-
ing compatible controllers. Unfortunately online multiplayer for the Wii has ended, as a result online multi-
player options are not mentioned.

- Wii Remote (it’s assumed that your Wii Remote has MotionPlus. If it doesn’t, you need one of these).

- Wii Remote and Nunchuck

- Classic Controller

- GameCube controller

Pandora’s Tower
RPG . Action
Your beloved has been cursed. To heal her you need
to restore power to an ancient chain by defeating
bosses in a mysterious towering structure. Your main
weapon is the chain that you can use against enemies
and on the environment, as well as few different sec-
ondary weapons. There are also a lot of items avail-
able and a crafting system. It has great boss fights, a
surprisingly good story (though predictable in several
aspects), great level design and interesting mechan-
ics throughout. A great RPG overall, but the control
scheme that takes some getting used to.
Multiplayer
None.

Final Fantasy
Crystal Chronicles:
The Crystal Bearers
RPG . Action
Set of on an adventure with mercenary Layle. Com-
bat’s mostly grabbing objects or enemies and throw-
ing them at your enemies (or innocent passersby) with
the motion controls. Several mini-games and different
gameplay sections too. A good RPG with fun game-
play, amusing controls and good sound track.
Multiplayer
Co-op wherein a second player can also use the pro-
tagonist’s levitating powers to help the main player.
Final Fantasy
Fables: Chocobo’s
Dungeon
RPG . Roguelike . Dungeon Crawler
Part of the Chocobo series of roguelikes. It has a
great diversity of classes, all with their unique char-
acteristics. Fight through a wealth of randomly cre-
ated dungeons with a good diversity of monsters.
Sound track featuring songs from a big amount of
Final Fantasy games. A solid entry to the roguelike
genre.
Multiplayer
None.

Final Fantasy IV:

The After Years
RPG . Turn-based
Originally a mobile game, but expanded for the
Wii. Turn-based combat in the style of SNES Final
Fantasy games and nice sprite style. It’s probably
best to play Final Fantasy IV before this in order
to understand the story (it’s available on the Virtual
Console). A good old school RPG.

Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op. Each player can select a
member of the party and they will control that char-
acter in the turn-based battles.

Opoona
RPG . Turn-based . Life-simulator
You’re on a family vacation in space when your
spaceship crashes. You need to find your family
and fight off enemies using your energy bon-bons.
A big mix of elements and ideas; there’s some life-
simulator, some exploration and some combat. It’s
quite a unique and quirky RPG, with a battle system
in which you flick the analog stick to throw your
bon-bons at enemies (you only need the nunchuck
as a controller, but it’s much more strategic than it
sounds). It is a good RPG with a variety of elements
and a fun design, but a bit slow.
Multiplayer
None.
Sakura Wars:
So Long, My Love
RPG . Strategy . Dating Simulator
Manage a musical theatre group that are actually
Mech pilots in 1920’s New York. Combat is tacti-
cal turn-based and the performance of your party is
affected by your interactions with its elements. The
story and interactions are very cheesy. It’s nice to
explore New York and the combat system is good.
An okay RPG, with a not very good visual novel
element.

Multiplayer
None.

Tales of
Symphonia: Dawn of
the New World
RPG . Action
A sequel to Tales of Symphonia with two new he-
roes. There’s an action combat system, and you can
also capture, train and evolve your own monsters.
There’s also some strategic elements your control of
the other party members. Overall a solid RPG.
Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op. You can play through the
story with each player having control of a different
character, but the playable characters change.

Arc Rise
Fantasia
RPG . Turn-based
L’Arc is sent to fight a horde of Feldragons head-
ing for the empire’s capital. The story is quite poor,
with even some actual moral ambiguity. It has a
good turn-based combat system, some nice visuals
(but very cliché of games with an anime-like style).
Consider playing in a foreign language so as to not
understand the horrible voice acting. An okay RPG,
but definitely not the best; maybe try some of the
other before going for this one.
Multiplayer
None.
Fragile Dreams:
Farewell Ruins of the
Moon
RPG . Action . Puzzle
You play as Ren, who’s in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo.
You must set out to find other living beings and fight
off ghosts. A lot of interesting mechanics throughout
the game, though the characters and the general feel
of the game are its strong points. Amazing music and
great visuals, but clunky combat. A great RPG over-
all, especially if you like feeling immersed.
Multiplayer
None.

The Last Story

RPG . Action . Strategy . Stealth
A war breaks out in the Kingdom and as you’re
caught in the middle. This is Sakaguchi and Ue-
matsu’s Final Fantasy game that isn’t Final Fantasy.
The story is good, with even some character devel-
opment. The environments are very well designed
and they fit the game well. The combat systems
is squad-based and you can use the environment
around you to your advantage. You command your
party as well as participating in combat yourself by
controlling a character. A good RPG overall, that is
quite entertaining throughout.
Multiplayer
None.

Shiren the
Wanderer
RPG . Roguelike . Dungeon Crawler
Though usually a very hard series, this iteration of
Shiren has some changes that make it easier, like
the permanent death being optional. You adven-
ture throughout the world and defeat the bosses in
dungeons, in turn-based combat. The aesthetics are
nice, the mechanics are those of a solid roguelike
with some tactical elements, but the story is forget-
table. A solid RPG and a good Roguelike. If you
like roguelikes, you’ll probably like this one.
Multiplayer
None.
Xenoblade
Chronicles
RPG . Action
Shulk and his band must uncover the secrets of the
“Monado” and defeat the Mechon. The world of
Xenoblade is huge and fully explorable filled with
side-quests, beyond the already big main story.
Combat consists of an MMO-like real-time combat
where positioning and countering are very impor-
tant. The story is interesting, the environments are
big and beautiful, and the combat isn’t for everyone,
but it’s still solid. A good (and very long) RPG.
Multiplayer
None.

Muramasa:
The Demon Blade
RPG . Action . Beat ‘em up
A beautifully hand-drawn game, inspired by Japa-
nese folklore, in which you can follow the story of
two different protagonists. Upgrading your charac-
ter is basically limited to your weapon and its forg-
ing. The combat is fun and has a nice flow, but is
also somewhat simple. The fluid combat combined
with the nice visuals and sound track makes for a
quite enjoyable game. Might be more of an action
game than RPG.
Multiplayer
None.

Rune Factory
Frontier
RPG . Life-simulator . Dungeon Crawler
Raguna moves to Trampoli to look for a missing
girl. Once there you will find out that there is some-
thing wrong and you’ll start fighting monsters in
dungeons. You’ll also do a lot of farming, forging,
trading, talking, etc. This game is very much about
being a life simulator and having you meet a lot of
characters and progressing in the story that way. It
can be an entertaining RPG, though it can feel grin-
dy sometimes and the combat is too simple.
Multiplayer
None.
Rune Factory:
Tides of Destiny
RPG . Life-simulator . Dungeon Crawler
The plot revolves around a boy and a girl both
trapped inside the boy’s body. The game had sev-
eral changes made from the previous iteration. In
this iteration you can have animals take care of the
farm for you (though there are still tasks you need
to do yourself), combat is more expanded, and sev-
eral other changes. Overall it is still the same kind
off game so how you feel about the previous game
should be close to how you feel about this one.
Multiplayer
None.

Fire Emblem:
Radiant Dawn
RPG . Strategy
After the war from Path of Radiance (a GameCube
game) Daein is under the reign of an occupying re-
gime. You start with a group of rebels and must ex-
pand your band. Combat consists of a turn-based
strategy system wherein you control your forces in
a grid map. The visuals are very nice, the music is
good and the combat animations are well done. It
is a challenging game and overall a great strategy-
RPG with nice character development.
Multiplayer
None.

Dragon Quest
Swords
RPG . Rail Shooter . Hack and Slash
A spin-off of the Dragon Quest series wherein you
travel and fight in first-person. You fight by moving
the remote in the direction of the swings you want
to make. Nice colorful visuals and nice music as
well. The combat is entertaining, but can get tiring;
so maybe play in short bursts. Movement is clunky.
A simple RPG, but it’s different and entertaining for
what it is.
Multiplayer
There are some mini-games that can be played by
up to four players.
Baroque
RPG . Roguelike
The setting for the game is dark and the visuals suit
the theme, though they are quite poor in terms of
graphical quality. You go down to the bottom of a
tower, defeating horrific monsters along the way
(if you stop killing them for too long, you’ll die).
Combat itself is simple, but there is more depth in
the variety of equipment. When you die you lose all
gear (unless you save it in orbs) and need to start
again, but dying is part of this game. It is a very
challenging game and can get repetitive, but it’s an
appealing game for fans of roguelikes.
Multiplayer
None.

Super Paper Mario

Platformer . RPG . Puzzle
This entry to the Paper Mario series departs from
being an RPG to more of a platformer with RPG
elements. Battles are now in real-time and platform-
ing includes a well thought out mechanic of switch-
ing between 3D and 2D. You can switch between
playing as Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser and Lu-
igi. The environments look great and are quite di-
verse, and it’s fun to see how a 2D level looks in 3D.
If you like platformers you should like this game as
it is a very good platformer, and the RPG and puzzle
elements make for nice additions.
Multiplayer
None.

Dewy’s Adventure
3D Platformer . Puzzle
The tale of how Dewy defeated the evil Don Hedron
in a fairy-tale world. There is jumping involved, but
you mainly use tilt controls to move Dewy around.
There are several mechanics, like turning Dewy into
steam and into ice. Includes a level editor you can
use for singleplayer and multiplayer. The environ-
ments and the characters are very cute and colorful.
It’s a solid platformer that can even get challenging;
fun if you like the cute aesthetics. The US version
has Nestlé advertisements.
Multiplayer
Up to four player split-screen. Competitive mode in
created, edited or pre-made maps.
Super Mario Galaxy
3D Platformer
Bowser attacks the Mushroom Kingdom, kidnap-
ping Peach and having Mario sent to outer space
by Kamek. Travel with Luma, a star from the spe-
cies also called “Luma”, through the galaxy to once
again save Peach. This is one of the best 3D plat-
formers ever made. It has great environments, con-
trols, music, level design and boss battles. A must
have for anyone that likes platformers.
Multiplayer
A second player can take control of a second star
on screen and point the cursor to conduct actions
like collecting stars, stun enemies and help Mario
perform higher jumps.

Super Mario
Galaxy 2
3D Platformer
This game is basically Super Mario Galaxy with
more levels, bosses and power-ups, and now with
the addition of Yoshi. Still one of the greatest 3D
platformers there has ever been. Great level design,
music, environments and even some references to
old games.

Multiplayer
Co-op similar to that of the last game. Though this
time, the second player takes control of Luma and
can perform more actions than before.

Jett Rocket
3D Platformer
Jett Rocket, Planetary Inspector, has to stop the
Power Plant Posse. Jump around some nice color-
ful level with Jett. Besides a jet pack you will use
other gadgets. The visuals are polished and the
platforming is solid. It’s a relatively small game. A
solid platformer throughout. If you feel like playing
something innovative maybe try some of the other
platformers first, but, if you’re feeling like a solid
3D platformer, you can’t go wrong with Jett Rocket.

Multiplayer
None.
The Munchables
3D Platformer . Action
Food shaped space pirates have invaded Star Ving,
now it’s up to the Munchables to save the planet.
The story and characters are funny as they are very
wacky and zany. The levels are colorful and cute.
You eat your enemies in order to grow in size so
that you can take on bigger enemies and reach pre-
viously inaccessible areas. A fun platformer if you
feel like playing a platformer with cute graphics and
simple humour.
Multiplayer
A second player can join your game and use the cur-
sor to throw meals at the enemies. Similar to the
multiplayer in Super Mario Galaxy.

Epic Mickey
3D Platformer
Mickey accidentally creates the Shadow Blot that
goes on to create havoc. The game has an interesting
story, with cameos from a wealth of Disney charac-
ters. The main mechanic revolves around platform-
ing throughout the world, using your magic brush to
help you along the way; there are also 2D platform-
ing sections. The game world is designed in a very
interesting and beautiful manner. Movement and
use of the brush isn’t always the best, but it works.
It’s a solid platformer overall, and, if you’re a fan of
Disney cartoons, you should give it a try.
Multiplayer
None.

Epic Mickey 2:
The Power of Two
3D Platformer
After the events from the last game, there is a new
problem that needs to fixing. This sequel maintains
the good parts of the previous game, but also keeps
its control issues. The gameplay is expanded by the
addition of two new types of ink, but the A.I. com-
panion isn’t very good. An okay platformer that re-
tains the charm of the first one.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. Play through the campaign with
one player playing as Mickey and the other as Os-
wald.
de Blob
3D Platformer
The authoritarian INK corporation has taken over
the anti-stakhanovite Chroma City. You need to
jump around the city’s diverse sections bringing it
back to life by literally giving it colour again. In
each level you need to jump around a section of the
city completing objectives and painting it again. It’s
relatively easy to beat the levels, but challenging to
100% them. Good platformer with great use of co-
lour and music, and a nice yet simple story. But, it
can get quite repetitive.
Multiplayer
Up to four player local split-screen. Compete with
up to four other players in some different modes.

de Blob 2
3D Platformer
The inkies are back and you need to restore colour
to the world. If you want more of de Blob this is
an obvious game to get, but if you didn’t like the
previous game you probably won’t like this one ei-
ther. It’s a good platformer that brings some new
elements like powerups and 2D sections, but, for
the most part, it’s the same. Still a solid game.
Multiplayer
Co-op wherein a second player joins the campaign
and can use a controller to point the cursor to defeat
enemies and get items. Like before, you can also
play in some split-screen multiplayer competitive
modes.

Donkey Kong:
Jungle Beat
2D Platformer . Rhythm
A port of Jungle Beat for the GameCube with mo-
tion controls to replace the use of bongos in the
original. It has nice aesthetics, but the landscapes
can sometimes look a bit plain. The game can get
somewhat repetitive, so maybe play in short bursts.
A solid platformer overall, but it might be more
entertaining to play the original on the GameCube
with the bongos.

Multiplayer
None.
Donkey Kong
Country Returns
2D Platformer
The return of a fantastic platforming series. A volcano
spirit has come alive and sent its minions to conquer
DK’s island. Jump through the levels to defeat it. The
game is quite challenging and to unlock everything
and beat everything is very hard. The platforming is
very tight and well done, and the environments and
music are a delight. A great platformer.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op of the campaign. You can go
through the same levels as the single player cam-
paign in local co-op.

Ivy the Kiwi?

2D Platformer . Puzzle
Ivy is born and is different from all the other chicks.
Ivy sets out to find its mother, so it sets of on an
adventure. The aesthetics and the story play out like
that of a story book. The game is hand-drawn and
looks nice. Ivy is always running, so, to help, you
put vines to create path and to make it jump. The
mechanics work and it can get quite challenging/
hectic. Overall a solid platformer.
Multiplayer
Co-op and competitive up to four players. In co-op,
all players can place vines to help the kiwi. In com-
petitive, players compete in split screen to advance
their bird and sabotage the others.

Klonoa
2D Platformer
A remake of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile for the
PS1. In the dream land of Phantomile, an airship
crashes on a mountain. Klonoa sets of on an adven-
ture to find out what happened. The game looks nice
and the levels are well designed. Even though it’s a
2D platformer, Klonoa moves around 3D environ-
ments, which makes the platforming more interest-
ing. The platforming overall works very well. A
good platformer that is worth a try if you like 2D
platformers.

Multiplayer
None.
Lost in Shadow
2D Platformer . Puzzle
A boy and his shadow are separated, now the shad-
ow must climb up a massive tower to be reunited
with its body. The game is mostly played control-
ling the shadow, meaning you actually end up play-
ing with the background shadows and not with the
foreground objects. A sylph that you also control,
controls light and some objects and thus you can use
it to move around shadows, and help the shadow
advance. The mechanics and visuals are interesting,
but can get tiresome. It’s a solid platformer, maybe
try it if you find the concept interesting.
Multiplayer
None.

A Boy and His

Blob
2D Platformer . Puzzle
A re-imagining of NES title, A Boy and His Blob:
Trouble on Blobolonia. A young boy and his blob
need to defeat some evil blobs. Lead them through
the levels to defeat them. Move around the levels
solving light puzzle elements. The music is endear-
ing, the art style is nice and cute, the gameplay is
solid, and there’s a dedicated hug button.

Multiplayer
None.

New Super
Mario Bros Wii
2D Platformer
A great entry in the “New Super Mario Bros” series.
Great platforming and level design, nice aesthetics
and good sound track. The main game is relatively
easy, although there are some very hard unlockables.
There’s not much in terms of story, but that’s to be
expected of Mario games. If you like platformers,
there’s no reason not to like this game.

Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op. You can go through the lev-
els in the single player campaign in local co-op.
Rayman
Origins
2D Platformer
Rayman’s group awakes an evil old lady that goes on
to imprison the world’s characters. Platform through
the levels to save the Electoons. The platforming is
good and new mechanics are added throughout the
game. The game looks great and the music really
complements the gameplay. A good platformer that
any fan of platformers should try.
Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op. Go through levels in the
campaign with up to four players, similarly to New
Super Mario Bros Wii.

Kirby’s Dream
Collection
2D Platformer
Includes Kirby’s Adventure (NES), Kirby’s Dream
Land (Game Boy), Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (Game
Boy), Kirby Super Star (SNES), Kirby’s Dream
Land 3 (SNES), Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64).
All good 2D Platformers, though, with the exception
of the earlier games, tend to be easy. Cute and good
platformers all around. Not released in Europe.
Multiplayer
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards lets you play the
minigames with up to 4 players. Kirby Super Star
and Kirby’s Dream Land 3 have 2 player co-op.

Kirby’s Adventure
Wii
2D Platformer . Action
As to be expected of Kirby, you eat enemies to gain
their abilities; though now there are super-abilities.
The aesthetics are nice and cute. The game is quite
easy, though minigames and challenges tend to be
more difficult than the main game. Not a very chal-
lenging game, but it is a solid platformer that can be
very entertaining.
Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op. Players can join the cam-
paign and play as Kirby, Meta Knight, King Ded-
ede, and Waddle Dee. There are also minigames.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn
2D Platformer
Kirby and its world are converted to yarn. The lev-
els are made out of yarn and fabric in a way that
makes the game very cute. The animations are very
fluid, the platforming is good. Instead of just eating
enemies, Kirby has adorable transformations with
different mechanics. A solid platformer with ador-
able graphics, but quite an easy game. Maybe try
the game if you feel like a nice looking platformer
with not a lot of challenge.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. You can play through the cam-
paign and in minigames with one player as Kirby
and the other as Prince Fluff.

Super Mario
All-Stars
2D Platformer
An emulation of the SNES compilation, Super Ma-
rio All-Stars. Includes Super Mario Bros., Super
Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros.
2, and Super Mario Bros. 3. All of them great plat-
formers (probably the best there are) with nice art.

Multiplayer
Two player co-op in Super Mario Bros. and Super
Mario Bros. 3.

Chronos Twins
DX
2D Platformer . Puzzle . Action
Nec must free the planet of Skyla and defeat Twime,
that exists in two separate times at the same time.
Thus, to defeat Twime, Nec must teleport between
times. You control Nec in two different times, mean-
ing you need to be aware of obstacles and enemies
in two different places at the same time. A novel
idea in a solid platformer. If you find the concept
interesting, the game is worth a try.

Multiplayer
None.
Sonic Colors
2D Platformer
Sonic and Tails set off to save the Wisps that have
been kidnapped by Dr. Eggman. The game is remi-
niscent of early 2D Sonic games, with the addition
of platforming characteristic of other games. There
are also 3D sections in which you quickly run and
jump down the level. Wisps give you eight different
powers that add some new mechanics to the game.
The game looks good and the music is also nice. It’s
a good platformer that can get quite challenging.
Multiplayer
Up to two player co-op and competitive. You can
play through unlockable levels in a co-op or com-
petitive mode.

Wario Land:
Shake It!
2D Platformer
The shake dimension has been invaded and it is up
to Mario to save the bottomless money bag that was
also taken in the invasion, for himself. The platform-
ing is solid, and the level design and mechanics are
fun. The levels and animations look great. The game
itself is relatively short and easy if you’re not trying
to get all the secrets and secondary objectives, but
very big if you are. A very good platformer.

Multiplayer
None.

Cave Story
2D Platformer . Metroidvania . Shoot ‘em Up
Remastered port of the original freeware for PC by
the same name. A robot wakes up in a cavern with
no memory of how it got there. Finding a village
of persecuted Minigames, it sets off to help them.
You will find different objects and weapons to help
you go through the different stages. The art style
is nice and reminiscent of NES games. The game
plays very well and there are lots of secrets hidden
throughout. The entire game is very well designed.
A very good game overall.

Multiplayer
None.
NyxQuest:
Kindred Spirits
2D Platformer . Puzzle
Nyx comes down to earth to find Icarus, only to
find a devastated landscape. You’ll jump and glide
through the levels, and gain different abilities as the
game advances. The game is mostly focused on the
platforming and puzzle elements, having a big lack
of enemy variety. It looks good and the mechanics
work well. Overall, it’s a solid platformer with some
nice puzzle elements.
Multiplayer
Two player mode wherein one of the players con-
trols Nyx and the other uses the special abilities.

LostWinds
2D Platformer
Toku must defeat the spirit Balasar with the help of
Enril, spirit of wind. The player controls both Toku
and the wind at the same time. With the cursor you
control the wind and use it to advance with Toku
through the level. The visuals are good, but there
isn’t a big variety in environments. The platforming
works well, though the game is very easy and short.
It’s an okay platformer, maybe try it if you feel like
playing a nice looking platformer that doesn’t really
challenge you.
Multiplayer
A second player can join with a Wii Remote, also
controlling the wind.

LostWinds: Winter
of the Melodias
2D Platformer
In the sequel to LostWinds, Toku is looking for his
long lost mother. The game essentially works the
same as the previous, though it’s somewhat more
challenging and it is a bit longer. This time, you can
change between the seasons of Summer and Win-
ter, with the seasons affecting the gameplay. A solid
platformer that is worth a try if you liked the first
one.

Multiplayer
None.
Gunblade NY
and LA Machineguns
Rail Shooter
A port of arcade titles Gunblade NY: Special Air
Assault Force and L.A Machineguns: Rage of the
Machines. Both titles are good rail shooters, though
LA Machineguns is somewhat better. The visu-
als are not the best, but the gameplay is good and
frenetic enough to make you not care. A good rail
shooter that you should try if you like old-school
rail shooters.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. Each player takes control of a
gun.

Dead Space
Extraction
Rail Shooter . Horror
A Prequel to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 game, Dead
Space. The colonists of Aegis VII have an infestation
of Necromorphs. The weapons and the possibility
of dismembering enemies work well. The monsters
are gruesome and a lot of jump-scares. The shooting
works well and there is enough gameplay variety to
keep it interesting. A good rail shooter that’s more
entertaining for the shooting than it is scary.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. A second player can join your
campaign.

Ghost Squad
Rail Shooter
A port of an arcade game. You’re in a squad and
you need to defeat the terrorists. You decide which
paths to take throughout the game. The shooting is
solid and exactly what you’d expect for this genre
of games. There are several different modes you can
play besides the main arcade game. One of the best
rail shooters in recent times, definitely worth trying
if you like the genre.

Multiplayer
There’s a two player mode and a party mode for up
to four players.
The House of the
Dead 2 & 3 Return
Rail Shooter . Horror
A port of two iconic arcade games. The shooting is
solid and there is with plenty of blood and gore. The
story is made up of some awful acting, but you can
change what happens with your actions. Includes
some extra modes. Overall a great rail shooter that
you’ll likely enjoy if you like rail shooters and don’t
mind/like zombies.

Multiplayer
Two player co-op. A second player can join the
game.

The House of the

Dead: Overkill
Rail Shooter . Horror
An addition to the House of the Dead series that
aims to have an grindhouse/action B-movie feel to
it; though the humour is poor sometimes. Seemingly
more blood and gore than usual (though the blood is
different from the previous games) and solid shoot-
ing mechanics. Overall a good rail shooter.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op and minigames that can be played
by up to four players. In dual wielding mode for two
players you can just have four players with a gun
each, instead of two with two guns.

Resident Evil:
Umbrella Chronicles
Rail Shooter . Horror
The game occurs in scenarios from different Resi-
dent Evil games, expanding their stories, narrated
by Albert Wesker. The shooting is good and the lev-
els can get quite challenging. There’s several extra
content that needs to be unlocked first by getting
high rankings in levels. A very good rail shooter that
is quite entertaining, but might not be fun for some
fans of Resident Evil.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. You can play the campaign with
two players.
Resident Evil: The
Darkside Chronicles
Rail Shooter . Horror
The game mainly revolves around the events of
Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veroni-
ca, and you can choose between two characters in
each scenario. It is an easier game than Umbrella
Chronicles, but it’s still challenging sometimes. The
shooting is quite solid, but the shaky cam can get
annoying sometimes. A very good rail shooter. If
you enjoyed Umbrella Chronicles, you should en-
joy this one too.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. A second player can join.

Sin &
Punishment: Star
Successor
Rail Shooter . Shoot ‘em up
A sequel to the N64 game, Sin & Punishment. The
visuals are great, the boss fights look great and the
music is good. The shooting is very good and you
can move your character around the screen. A chal-
lenging game that’s probably one of the best shoot-
ers on the Wii, and a great game overall.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op. A second cursor can be controlled
by another player.

Wild West Guns

Rail Shooter
A straightforward shooter with a western theme.
The design of the characters and scenario is nice for
the most part, but the animations aren’t that good.
The game is also quite short. The shooting is solid,
but maybe only try this game after you’ve exhaust-
ed all other option for rail shooters.

Multiplayer
Two players can play competitively or in co-op.
Link’s Crossbow
Training
Rail Shooter
The shooting mechanics are very solid. There aren’t
a lot of stages, but there is a good amount for a
packed in with the Wii Zapper. The visuals are good
and the sounds production is okay. A solid shooter,
but maybe only try if you’re in need of a new rail
shooter or if you really want to play as Link in this
kind of game.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play competitively. Each
player, in turn, will go through the selected stage
and try to get the highest score.

Onslaught
First-person Shooter
A military team is sent to a cyborg bug infested
planet. The game looks good, but there isn’t a lot
of enemy variety. The mission objectives also tend
to be very simple. The shooting is solid and it can
be amusing to use the laser whip weapon. An okay
shooter, though probably only get this after you’ve
tried most of the other FPSs.

Multiplayer
None.

The Conduit
First-person Shooter
Agent Michael Ford is sent to Washington, D.C. to
deal with the Drudges’ alien invasion. The graph-
ics are very good, and the enemy design and weap-
ons are nice (though there’s little enemy variety).
There’s a great deal of customazibility in the con-
trols, so, if you haven’t liked using the Wii Remote
for FPSs before, it’s possible that you’ll more easily
get used to this game. The shooting is very solid
and there are okay unlockables in the game. A good
FPS, that you should give a try if you want an FPS
for the Wii.
Multiplayer
None.
Conduit 2
First-person Shooter
A sequel to The Conduit, whose story occurs right
after the events of the first. The game maintains the
good aspects of the previous game and improves
almost every of them. The singleplayer can feel re-
petitive. If you care about the story or plan on get-
ting several FPSs get both games, if not consider
only getting Conduit 2.
Multiplayer
Up to four player split screen. Several competitive
multiplayer modes, both with or without teams, and
co-op mode where players fight against waves of
enemies. Loadout and upgrade system with some
similarities to that of Call of Duty.

GoldenEye 007
First-person Shooter
A remake of the N64 game by the same name. It fol-
lows the Goldeneye script, but from the Daniel Craig
Bond story arch perspective. The game looks good
and the environments are interesting. The mechan-
ics are solid, though very different from the original
game. The gameplay is also varied enough to keep
you interested throughout. A great FPS that is defi-
nitely worth a try if you like first-person shooters.
Multiplayer
Up to four player competitive split screen. Lots of
game modes, modifiers, and characters to choose
from.

Call of Duty:
World at War
First-person Shooter
The missions occur mostly in the Pacific and in the
Eastern Front, from the perspectives of three sol-
diers. The story tries a bit too hard to be mature, but
at least the graphics are good. The shooting is solid
and using weapons like the flamethrower is enter-
taining. A good FPS that is especially nice if one
misses the time of World War II shooters.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op called Squadmate. The first player
can play relatively normally and the second player
can only shoot, similar to a rail shooter.
Call of Duty:
Black Ops
First-person Shooter
The game follows several special forces operatives
that carry out black operations behind enemy lines.
The campaign isn’t very interesting and will often
get buggy, but there are some missions with inter-
esting mechanics. Some missions are changed from
what there is in other platforms. The shooting me-
chanics work well, but aren’t very good overall. A
solid FPS, but maybe only get it after starting to run
out of FPSs.
Multiplayer
None.

Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 3
First-person Shooter
The story follows the Modern Warfare series and
is composed by a series of acts seen from the per-
spectives of different characters. The levels don’t
look very good and the “epic” scale of the events is
somewhat lost as a result. The shooting is solid and
the weapons feel gratifying to shoot. A solid shooter
that seems to control better than Black Ops, but still
with many issues that might make you avoid this as
one of your first choices.
Multiplayer
None.

Medal of Honor:
Heroes 2
First-person Shooter
The game follows Lieutenant John Berg in the
events of the Battle of Cherbourg, in Normandy.
The game looks good, but the obvious placement of
items solely as cover can be annoying. The shooting
mechanics and controls are solid. There is also a rail
shooter mode that works well. A solid FPS that is
worth a try if you like FPSs.

Multiplayer
None.
Elebits
First-person Shooter
Little creatures called Elebits are the true source of
power for the world’s electronics. You’ll be shoot-
ing a “capture gun” to capture these little creatures
and manipulating the physics of objects and struc-
tures in order to find more hidden creatures. The
story is annoyingly simple, but the visuals are nice.
The mechanics work well and are amusing. The
game also includes a map editor. A good FPS with a
unique concept that can be fun.
Multiplayer
Up to four player competitive multiplayer. Play
through the levels with up to four players compet-
ing to get the most Elebits.

Metroid Prime
Trilogy
First-Person Shooter Action Adventure
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption with the addition
of ports of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2:
Echoes. The series follows space bounty hunter Sa-
mus Aran. The game looks great and is very immer-
sive. The shooting mechanics work very well, but
the game is also focused on exploration. A great and
challenging FPS, one of the best games on the Wii.
Multiplayer
Up to four player split screen multiplayer. There is
a competitive deathmatch mode and a mode where
players compete to get the most points (coins).

Rogue Trooper: The

Quartz Zone Massacre
Third-person Shooter
Rogue, a G.I. in Nu-Earth is involved in a war be-
tween the Norts and Southers. Due to a plot ele-
ment, your equipment can have personality and au-
tonomy. The game looks only okay, as the scenarios
are a bit bland. The shooting mechanics work well.
A solid shooter, even if not the most interesting of
games; play if you’re out of TPSs.
Multiplayer
Up to four player split screen. Up to four players
can play maps with objectives or fight off waves of
enemies.
Battalion Wars 2
Third-person Shooter . Real Time Strategy
A sequel to the GameCube’s Battalion Wars. You
order a variety of units on the field as well as di-
rectly controlling your own unit. While shooting
with your unit, you are also strategizing your army’s
movements. There are land, air and naval units. It
provides a good blend of strategy and action as you
need to be effective with your own unit as well as
strategic with your troops. The game is colorful and
the army units have nice exaggerated movements. A
good third-person shooter with the added element
of RTS that can get quite challenging.
Multiplayer
None.

MadWorld
Beat ‘em up . Action
Varrigan City has been turned to “DeathWatch”,
where contestants kill each other for a prize. You
play as an agent with a retractable saw in his arm
who is sent to infiltrate the show. It is a beat ‘em
up with a variety of moves, finishers, environmental
weapons and interesting bosses. You need to build
up points with combos and finishers to progress.
The game is in black and white with the exception
of blood. It is a great beat ‘em up with very good
mechanics that can be very challenging.
Multiplayer
Two player split screen for the different minigames
from the campaign.

Batman: The
Brave and the Bold
Beat ‘em up . 2D Platformer
A beat ‘em up based on the “Batman: The Brave
and the Bold” cartoon series. Good responsive con-
trols with enough of a variety of moves. The game
looks very much like a cartoon and the dialogs be-
tween the characters can be amusing sometimes. A
good brawler overall that plays well, though it is not
very challenging.
Multiplayer
2 player co-op wherein one player plays as Batman
and the other will play as different characters de-
pending on the chapter.
Dragon Ball:
Revenge of King Piccolo
Beat ‘em up . Fighting . 2D Platformer
The game follows the first Dragon Ball series from
the Emperor Pilaf to the King Piccolo story arch.
The visuals are nice, as it looks like the anime. The
story animations are poor. The combat has few
moves and not a lot of depth in combat, thus feeling
repetitive. It’s an okay beat ‘em up, but maybe only
play if you want a new beat ‘em up and a game with
the first series of Dragon Ball.
Multiplayer
Versus mode for up to two players with 17 charac-
ters available.

Pirates PlundArrr
Beat ‘em up
A beat ‘em up with a pirate theme. The visuals aren’t
very good and there are glitches and frame rate
drops. The combat is okay, but can get repetitive.
There are items to pick up and an upgrade system.
It can also get quite challenging. An okay brawler,
that maybe you should only buy it if you’re in need
of a new 4 player scrolling beat ‘em up.

Multiplayer
Up to four player co-op of the game.

Spider-Man:
Friend or Foe
Beat ‘em up
A villain has put several villains under mind con-
trol and now Spider-Man has to save them. You
play as Spider-Man, but the villains join you as you
save them. The combat is okay , but not particular-
ly interesting. It’s an okay brawler, maybe get it if
you’re in need of a brawler and wanting to play with
Spider-Man villains and other heroes for a change.
Multiplayer
Two player co-op, wherein one player plays as
Spider-Man and the other as a sidekick, and a two
player versus mode.
Transformers:
Prime – The Game
Beat ‘em Up
The Autobots must stop the Decepticons’ plan to
divert a meteor towards Earth. The graphics aren’t
very good. The combat isn’t very complex, but the
moves look good. You can also transform into a ve-
hicle and back on the fly. There is also a variety of
characters to play as and there’s somewhat of a va-
riety in level. It’s a solid brawler that’s worth a try if
you’re starting to run out of beat ‘em ups.
Multiplayer
Up to two players can play in three different com-
petitive multiplayer game modes.

Dead Rising:
Chop Till You Drop
Beat ‘em up . Horror . Third-person Shooter
Journalist Frank West is trapped in a mall filled with
zombies and must rescue other survivors. More fo-
cused on fighting zombies and rescuing survivors
than the Xbox 360 Dead Rising. Despite this, there
are less zombies on screen at any point in time. The
shooting is good as it uses the Resident Evil 4 en-
gine, and there is a variety of weapons. It’s an okay
game, but it can keep you interested with the variety
of weapons (especially if you like zombie games).
Multiplayer
None.

Spyborgs
Beat ‘em up
Cyborg agents need to defeat a villain and his robot
henchmen. You can choose from a heavy, a medium
and a light character, with a variety of moves. The
graphics are good and the combat works, though
neither are particularly interesting. The game can
be quite difficult. An okay beat ‘em up overall that
is worth a try when you’re running out of brawlers,
but that should probably be played in short spurts.

Multiplayer
Two player co-op. Each player can choose one of
the three available characters.
Pokémon Battle
Revolution
Fighting . Turn-based
A spin-off from the main pokemon games in the
vein of Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon Sta-
dium. There are 11 different colosseums to fight
through in turn-based battles. You rent pokemon
from a list for your battles (unless you connect to
a DS) and you can customize your trainer. A solid
fighting game, but probably not worth it unless you
really want to have some turn-based pokemon bat-
tles (and even then it is a very limited game).
Multiplayer
Two players can battle against each other.

Super Smash
Bros. Brawl
Fighting . Party Game
A 2D fighting game with a variety of Nintendo char-
acters (and some non-Nintendo). There are 35 dif-
ferent characters to choose from, with most being
very unique. There’s an adventure mode, Subspace
Emissary, as well as several different kinds of oth-
er modes. A good fighting game and a great party
game. Definitely worth buying if you want a fight-
ing game to play with other people.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play in a battle mode and
some other modes that also consist of fighting.

Tatsunoko vs.
Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
Fighting
A 2D fighting game featuring characters from Cap-
com games and Tatsunoko animes. The game has
a good amount of content, but no Story Mode.
There’s an arcade mode, a survival mode, a top-
down shoot‘em up minigame and other modes.
The game looks good and the fighting mechanics
are very good. A great fighting game overall, with a
very good diversity of characters available
Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other and up to
four players can play the shooter
Punch-Out!!
Fighting . Sports
The latest installment in the Punch-Out!!! series,
whose last title had been released in 1994. You fight
against a series of boxers, each with their own spe-
cial characteristics, to advance through the ranks.
This game is all about learning your enemy’s attack
patterns, quick reflexes and being strategic about at-
tacking and defending. The game’s visuals and ani-
mations really fit the gameplay and the characters
can be amusing. A great fighting game that’s filled
with action and personality, but very challenging.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other in split
screen.

Guilty Gear XX
Accent Core Plus
Fighting
An entry to the series of 2D fighting games, Guilty
Gear. Guilty Gears uses a nice anime art style com-
bined with a metal sound track and overall them.
The action is chaotic and the moves elaborate.
There are 25 characters to choose from. Overall a
good fighting game and a good choice if you like
fast 2D fighters.

Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other.

Castlevania
Judgement
Fighting
A 3D fighting game whose looks are inspired by
more anime looking design of the DS games. The
fighting revolves more around attacking at the right
moment. As there aren’t a lot of combos and spe-
cial attacks, it’s more important to dodge, block and
attack at the right moments. There are also a few
items and stage hazards on the field. An okay fight-
ing game that can be enjoyed if you like 3D fighters
and the design of the characters.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other.
Punch Time
Explosion XL
Fighting
A fighting game with characters from different Car-
toon Network shows. Combat functions with mostly
the same rules as Super Smash Bros, but it isn’t as
good. The combat is slower and the controls aren’t
as good You have 26 characters, but you need to
unlock them in singleplayer first. Overall it’s just an
okay fighting game, but it’s nice to play as charac-
ters you might not get a chance to otherwise play as.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can battle against each other, or
against CPUs.

Rage of the
Gladiator
Fighting
The game doesn’t look very good, but the anima-
tions are nice. You hold a shield and a mace in first-
person view and, like Punch-Out, you need to learn
your enemy’s moves and when to attack. There
are only 11 different enemies, but they’re all very
different. There’s also an upgrade system. A solid
fighting game you’ll likely enjoyed if you liked the
gameplay in Punch-Out!!.

Multiplayer
None.

Dragon Ball Z:
Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Fighting
The third game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series
of Dragon Ball Z fighting games. You fight in 3D
arenas, where you can also fly in. There are lots of
game modes and plenty of characters. The combat
is good and fast paced, and the different moves look
great. A good fighting game with lots of content and
challenge that’s especially fun if you like Dragon
Ball.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other in split
screen.
Victorious
Boxers: Revolution
Fighting . Sports
The game, based on the Hajime no Ippo anime, fol-
lows Ippo Makunouchi as he rises through the ranks
of professional boxing, though there are 25 other
playable characters. The wiimote+nunchuck control
scheme is very hard to master, but possibly more
enjoyable. The game looks alright and the combat
is solid. A solid fighting game overall.

Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other in split-
screen.

Samurai
Shodown Anthology
Fighting
The anthology includes Samurai Anthology I, II,
III, IV, V and VI. They are 2D fighting games with
solid fighting mechanics. The combat is methodical
and complex, and the visual style and accompany-
ing music are invoking of 18th century Japan and
japanese folklore. There’s a lot of customization
and a big amount of characters available (especially
in VI). A good fighting game, with lots of content.
Multiplayer
All of the games allow two players to fight against
each other.

King of
Fighters: The Orochi Saga
Fighting
This collection includes King of Fighters ‘94, ‘95,
‘96, ‘97, and ‘98. King of Fighters are 2D fighting
games that has a cast of characters from different
SNK games. The system to check and test moves is
very simple and nice. The combat is solid and the
game looks good. The whole compilation is solid,
but ‘98 is probably the best game and the one most
worth your time.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight against each other in all
games.
Need for
Speed: Nitro
Racing
An arcade racer in the Need for Speed series. The
driving is very fun and fast, even though the drift-
ing isn’t the best. There’s no cockpit view. There’s
a good selection of cars, lots of customization that
you can do, including the possibility to paint your
car freely, and the tracks are based on emblemat-
ic cities. A good driving game that should provide
some fun times if you like arcade racers.
Multiplayer
Two players can race against each other in split
screen, with some different competitive modes.

Excite Truck
Racing
An off road racing game part of the Excite series.
The racing is very fast, and you can drift and smash
other opponents, but, in this game, using turbo stra-
tegically and jumping high and landing your jumps
is even more important. You gain points, stars, for
your jumps, tricks, drifts, tackles and pole ranking,
and it is these stars that will decide how you rank.
The terrain in the tracks changes as you drive. A
good driving game that can provide some great fast
hectic fun, but that doesn’t have a lot of content.

Multiplayer
Two players can play in split-screen.

Excitebots:
Trick Racing
Racing
An entry in the Excite series, but this time with ani-
mal themed robots. The cars and tracks look good,
and the animations are very good. The racing is still
very fast and with the ranking based on stars, but
now you have minigames in the race to earn stars.
More modes and overall content than Excite Truck;
the controls are also tighter. A great racing game that
is plenty of fun if you find mechanics appealing.
Multiplayer
Two players can race against each other in split-
screen.
Excitebike:
World Challenge
Racing
An entry in the Excite series that plays very much
like the 1998 Excitebike. Your ranking changes in
accordance to the time it takes for you to finish the
race. There’s also a track editor available. You have
to use your turbo strategically since you need to be
careful about overheating, but getting air time and
landing your jumps is essential for keeping your
speed. A solid racer that can be very fun, but it can
also get old quickly.
Multiplayer
None.

FAST - Racing
League
Racing
A futuristic racer wherein you shift phases to change
your ship’s phase in accordance to environmental
boosts and jump pads you want to use. A very fast,
when playing in “Ion”, game with a lot of sharp
turns, and environmental hazards. There are only
6 ships available (though you can change their co-
lour). The tracks and ships look very good, and the
track design is also good. A good racer that is a good
choice if you like futuristic racers.
Multiplayer
Up to 4 players can race against each other.

Mario Kart
Wii
Racing . Party Game
An entry in the Mario Kart series of racing games.
You can choose from 24 characters from Mario se-
ries and you have a good selection of tracks and ve-
hicles. The racing is solid and can get very challeng-
ing in 150cc (though there’s rubber-banding by the
adversaries). A good racer and a great party game,
as the game really shines when playing with other.

Multiplayer
Up to 4 players can play against each other either in
normal racing mode or in battle mode.
TrackMania:
Build To Race
Racing
An entry to the Trackmania series. The game isn’t
very appealing visually, but the racing is definitely
solid and the tracks are interesting and challenging.
You don’t touch other cars, you just phase through
them. There’s a very robust track editor, with lots of
parts and options. There are also a couple of differ-
ent modes. A solid racing game with good mechan-
ics that’s especially interesting for the track build-
ing possibilities.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can race against each other.

Speed Racer:
The Videogame
Racing
A futuristic racing game based on the Speed Racer
movie from 2008 (which in turn is based on an an-
ime). The racing is solid, but the controls can some-
times be problematic (though not often). The tracks
are good with a lot of twists and loops that keep you
entertained. You attack other cars with “car-fu”, in
order to destroy them. A solid racer that can be fun
if you like futuristic racers or just liked the Speed
Racer anime.
Multiplayer
Two players can race each other in split-screen.

Sonic & Sega

All-Stars Racing
Racing
A kart racer with a lot of characters from the Sonic
series and from other Sega games. The game looks
good and the tracks are well designed. It plays quite
well. There are item you pick up and can use . You
have some mission modes with objectives you need
to do in order to win. A good racing game that is
very fun, especially in multiplayer, and can be a
good idea to get when you get tired of Mario Kart.
Multiplayer
Up to four players compete in races or in battle
mode.
Gradius
ReBirth
Shoot ‘em up . Scrolling shooter
A game in the Gradius series that remasters and re-
mixes levels from previous titles. A side-scrolling
shoot ‘em up with plenty of power-ups and enemies.
It is also quite challenging (though continues make
it more forgiving). It’s a great shoot ‘em up that is
worth playing if you like the genre, but you are not
able to hold down the button to fire (meaning you
need to tap it) and the game is also quite short in
length.
Multiplayer
None.

Contra
ReBirth
Shoot ‘em up . Run ‘n’ gun
The Neo-Salamander Force has travelled back to
1973 to take out the Contra Force. A 2D run and gun
part of the Contra series, with some stages inspired
by previous titles. You can hold two weapons, the
normal weapon and the power-up, and you can
shoot in autofire. A great looking game with intense
action. There are also a couple of unlockable char-
acters. A great run ‘n’ gun game, albeit quite short.

Multiplayer

A biologist takes armored vehicle S.O.P.H.I.A. to
find the source of a virus that infected the Earth. A
remake of the 1988 NES game, Blaster Master. A
run ‘n’ gun with some 2D platforming. The game
doesn’t look very good, but it plays well. The boss
battles are challenging. You move painfully slowly
in the underwater sections. A good shoot ‘em up
that is worth playing if you like shmups.

Multiplayer
None.
Blast Works:
Build, Trade, Destroy

A side-scrolling shoot ‘em up based on 2004 PC
game, Tumiki Fighters. You fly a ship that attach-
es parts from enemies to itself as you defeat them.
There’s an editor with which you create/edit your
ship, enemies and level. There aren’t a lot of levels,
but, with the editor, there’s the possibility of much
more. A good shoot ‘em up with an innovative con-
cept in the debris gathering, and a robust editor.
Multiplayer
Two players can play in co-op. Up to four players can
also play together competing in a score based mode.

Castle of
Shikigami III
Shoot ‘em up . Bullet Hell
A bullet hell game part of the Shikigami no Shiro
series. It doesn’t look very good, but the amount of
things that occur on screen more than makes up for
it. At any time when there is action going on, the
amount of things on screen is ridiculous. Solid con-
trols and mechanics throughout. Several characters
to choose from, each with their own attacks. A great
vertical shmup, that you are bound to like if you
enjoy bullet hell shoot ‘em ups.
Multiplayer
Two players can play in co-op.

Metal Slug
Anthology
Shoot ‘em up . Run ‘n’ gun
Includes Metal Slug 1, 2, X, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The
games are all side-scrolling run and gun games. The
games’ visuals and animations are beautiful and
sometimes funny. There’s a good amount of weap-
ons and vehicles. The movement can feel a bit slow
sometimes, but the action is still intense and capti-
vating enough. A good collection of good shoot ‘em
ups.

Multiplayer
Two player co-op.
Ultimate
Shooting Collection
Shoot ‘em up . Scrolling Shooter . Bullet Hell
Includes Karous, Radirgy, and Chaos Field. All of
them are solid scrolling shooters with various de-
grees of bullet hell. You can tell that they aren’t new
games, but the games still manage to look good. The
games can be quite challenging, especially Chaos
Field. A good collection of scrolling shooters that is
worth it if you like shoot ‘em ups.

Multiplayer
None.

Space Invaders
Get Even
Shoot ‘em up . Scrolling Shooter
You control the space invaders’ mothership and
need to command the smaller ships in order to de-
feat earth’s forces. Send out the smaller ships and
use different attacks on different enemies. The visu-
als are nice, with the cities looking quite good. A
solid shooter with an interesting concept, it’s worth
a try when you start running out of shmups or if
you like the concept of taking control of the space
invaders.
Multiplayer
None.

Star Soldier R
Shoot ‘em Up . Scrolling Shooter
An entry in the Star Soldier series of scrolling shoot-
ers. The gameplay is solid and it has an old school
feel to it. It looks very good and has some nice cine-
matics. The game is very good and the controls are
solid, but it’s very short on content so maybe get it
if you’re running out of shmups.

Multiplayer
None.
Geometry Wars:
Galaxies
Shoot ‘em up . Bullet Hell
A sequel to 2003 Xbox minigame, Geometry Wars.
You choose from a number of planets that function
as the stage. You have a limited space, with different
shapes, where you fight to survive constant waves
of enemies. Despite using a simple art style, it looks
quite good and the more hectic it gets, the better it
looks. A good shoot ‘em up that can be quite fun
especially if you like score-based games.
Multiplayer
Two players can play through the levels in a co-op
mode or a competitive mode.

ferent kinds of techniques, rods and baits. The fish
you catch go into an aquarium you can visit and cus-
tomize; you profit from NPCs visiting your aquari-
um. You can also customize your character and your
hotel room. There are a number of activities you
can do, for instance biking, taking pictures, go on
submarine tours, and taking quests from NPCs. A
good fishing simulator that also has other activities
to keep it interesting.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can fish together.

Mario Sports Mix

Sports . Party Game
A sports game with characters from Mario series
and some Square Enix characters, includes volley-
ball, hockey, dodgeball, and basketball. The game
is nice and colorful, but the gameplay is somewhat
shallow. All the games work well and have some
cool elements, like special moves and changing
stages, but there isn’t a lot of depth making it so
that it can feel repetitive and uninteresting. A solid
sports game that can be quite fun when played with
others.

Multiplayer
Up to four players can join the games in either team.
Sega Bass Fishing
Sports
A port of arcade fishing game Sega Bass Fishing
originally made in 1997 for the Sega Model 3. You
fish against the clock in a number of locations with
customizable time of day, weather and season. The
game doesn’t look very good, but it somewhat fits
its arcade gameplay. The music is bad, but in “na-
ture mode” there’s no music. The motion controls
are good and suit the game. It’s a challenging game
that takes some skill. A good fishing game that can
be quite enjoyable to play.

Multiplayer
None.

Mario Strikers
Charged Football
Sports . Party Game
A sequel to the Gamecube’s 2005 game, Mario
Smash Football. A 5-on-5 football game featuring
characters from the Mario series. You choose the
players in the team and all characters have differ-

strikes, legal tackles and there are hazards on the
field. A good football game, and a great party game
if the others like the idea of a party sports game.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play against each other or in
the same team.

Wii Sports
Sports . Party Game
Includes tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and box-
ing. The game’s graphics are very simple, but that’s
part of the game’s concept of being simple to pick
up. The controls and mechanics are very easy to un-
derstand and intuitive, making it easy for all kinds
of people to play. All games use motion controls,
but they work well, with maybe the exception of
boxing which isn’t as good. A good sports game that
is particularly fun when played with others.

golf. Boxing and baseball can only be played by up
to two players.

the gameplay. There are lots of game modes and

mode.

op. Up to four players can also compete in some modes.

Grand Slam Tennis

Sports
An arcade tennis game. You can create your own
player and customize him/her. Quite a bit of content

an arcade basketball game in which you can play as
the team mascots or many other unusual characters
sounds appealing.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play at once.
Mario Super
Sluggers
Sports . Party Game
Sequel to GameCube’s 2005 game, Mario Superstar
Baseball. Select your team from a number of Mario
and Donkey Kong series characters. The gameplay
is fun, with stage-hazards and power-ups. Several

are lots of game modes, including a career like mode
where you can take a player from peewee to pro.

entering an abandoned warehouse. The controls
aren’t very good and the gameplay overall is quite
limited. The game rates you in accordance to how
much you flinched in the game. The game can be
very scary, but mostly by way of jump scares. An
okay horror game that can provide a frightening ex-
perience if you don’t mind jump scares.
Multiplayer
Two players can play at once with one of them con-
trolling the character and the second one being able
to make some scary events occur.

Resident Evil 4:

Survival Horror . Third-person Shooter . Action
A remaster of Resident Evil 4 with the extra content
from the PS2 and PC versions. Six years after Resi-
dent Evil 2, Leon is sent to rescue Ashley Graham in
a rural region in Europe. The level, enemy and en-

and it is enjoyable to use the Wii Remote to point
weapons. A great survival horror game that might
not really be very scary, but more than makes for
it with solid gameplay, enemies and environments.
Multiplayer
None.

1996 Resident Evil game. You play as either Chris
Redfield or Jill Valentine as they split up to search
for clues, in an abandoned mansion, on the disap-

ments and enemy designs that are enhanced by the
fixed camera angles. The gameplay mechanics are
also solid. A great survival horror game that should
be played by anyone that enjoys the genre.
Multiplayer
None.
Resident Evil
Archives: Resident Evil 0
Survival Horror
A port of the 2002 GameCube game, Resident Evil
0. A prequel to Resident Evil in which Rebecca
Chambers and Billy Coen fight their way through a
moving train. The visuals provide a good horror at-
mosphere, but some enemy design isn’t interesting.
You play as both characters in a classical Resident
Evil style with things like tank controls and inven-
tory management. A good survival horror game, if
you want more of Resident Evil this is worth it.
Multiplayer
None.

Silent Hill:
Shattered Memories
Survival Horror
The seventh title in the Silent Hill series. The game’s
a retelling of the original Silent Hill story, but with
many differences. Harry Mason goes to the town of
Silent Hill searching for his missing daughter. In
the town, reality sometimes changes to an alternate
“Nightmare” dimension. Tasks in a psychotherapy
session have effects on the town, some subtle and
other very obvious. A good survival horror game,
but not very in keeping with the Silent Hill games.
Multiplayer
None.

Escape From Bug

Island
Survival Horror
A small group goes to an island inhabited by gi-
gantic insects to study papers written by one of the
member’s favourite author. The story is laughably
bad, the game doesn’t look very good (though a lot
of the insects are well done), and the controls and
gameplay are very clunky. Despite these, the game
can actually be quite disturbing due to the insects
attacking you. An okay horror game that you might
enjoy if you like b-horror movies/shlock horror.
Multiplayer
None.
Calling
Survival Horror
Four people visit “The Black Page”, a website that
kills those that visit it. The game has a good horror
environment and controls well, but the mechanics
aren’t very interesting and get repetitive quickly.
They are absorbed into a void and must escape it.
A lot of the game’s mechanics revolve around using
the Wii Remote as a phone. An okay survival hor-
ror game, maybe try it once you start running out of
horror games.

Multiplayer
None.

Cursed Mountain
Survival Horror . Action
Mountain climber Eric Simmons goes to climb a
mountain on the Himalayas after his brother went
missing there. The game is very inspired by bud-
dhist and Tibetan folklore, with a lot of its material
present in the mountains. There is a lot of explo-
ration in the game, with the horror element being
present in the atmosphere. The locations look great
and make for an immersive environment. The con-
trols are somewhat clunky. A good survival horror
game that’s special for its unique environment and
atmosphere.
Multiplayer
None.

ries, a spin-off of the Dynasty Warriors series. The

rail shooter with melee weapons.
Multiplayer
Two players can play competitively in split screen.

Sengoku Basara:
Samurai Heroes
Hack ‘n’ Slash . Action
Part of the Sengoku Basara series of Sengoku era of
feudal Japan inspired hack’n’slashes. Lots of char-
acters with which you fight hordes of enemies in not
very deep combat. Depending on which character
you pick and how you play, the story will devel-
op differently. Though there is a lot of content, the
game can get quite repetitive. A good hack’n’slash
game that’s fun if you feel like defeating entire
armies by yourself.
Multiplayer
Two players can play in split screen co-op.

No More Heroes
Hack ‘n’ Slash . Action-adventure
Travis Touchdown buys a beam katana and sets out
to become the number one assassin in the United
Assassins Association. The story is ridiculous and
purposely campy. The game has a nice art style that
looks very cool during combat. The combat is styl-
ish and fun, even including some wrestling moves
as finishers. You can roam around the town in a
motorcycle There are several jobs to do around the
town that consist of minigames. Overall there’s a
lot of content and unlockables. A good hack’n’slash
game, definitely worth playing if you like the genre.
Multiplayer
None.
No More Heroes 2:
Desperate Struggle
Hack ‘n’ Slash . Action-adventure
A sequel to No More Heroes. Three years after the
first game, Travis goes back to Santa Destroy to fight

bound to be enjoyed if you liked the first game.
Multiplayer
None.

Onechanbara:
Bikini Zombie Slayers
Hack ‘n’ Slash
A sequel to Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad for
the Xbox 360. The game has a exploitation horror
movie theme and it overall looks okay. The game
has solid combat mechanics, using the motion con-
trols. The combat tries to be purposely over the top.
Completing the character quests will earn you alter-
native costumes. A good hack’n’slash game that is
quite fun if you don’t mind the campy look.
Multiplayer
Two players can play the levels and survival mode
in split screen.

Deadly Creatures
Action
An action game wherein you can play as a taran-
tula and a scorpion. The scorpion is tougher and
has more action oriented levels, while the tarantula
is quicker and weaker, and has levels that enable a
stealthier playing style. Story is shown throughout
by observing two prospectors in the background.
The game looks very nice, has a good variety of en-
emies and good level design. Along the game, you
gain upgrades so as to access new areas. A good ac-
tion game that is worth a try for the interesting con-
cept and solid gameplay mechanics.
Multiplayer
None.
Mega Man 9
Action . 2D Platformers
The ninth title in the main Mega Man series. Sever-
al of Dr. Light’s “Robot Masters” suddenly go on a
rampage, without no seeming involvement from Dr.
Wily. A classic Mega Man style game, with great
level design and boss battles. It can get very chal-
lenging, but you acquire some items that make it
easier. The visuals and music are also very good and
fitting of the game. A great action platformer that is
a throwback to classic Mega Man, though the game
is quite short.

Multiplayer
None.

Mega Man 10
Action . 2D Platformer
A sequel to Mega Man 9. The disease “Roboenza”
is infecting robots and causing them to attempt to
take over the World. It is very much a game in the
same vein as Mega Man 9, with all the good aspects
and bad (still quite short of a game). Though now
you have difficulty settings and you can play as Pro-
to Man. Proto Man can charge up shots, slide and
use a shield, but takes twice the damage and knock
back as Mega Man, and can’t have as many shots on
screen. A great action platformer that you’re sure to
enjoy if you liked Mega Man 9.
Multiplayer
None.

Star Wars:
The Force Unleashed
Action
An action game set between Episode III and Epi-
sode IV. An apprentice of Darth Vader, Starkiller, is
sent out to kill Jedi as training for his ultimate mis-
sion. The graphics are okay, but, even though the
controls in general are okay, the lightsaber control is
mediocre. You have an okay set of moves, you can
customize lightsaber and upgrade your force pow-
ers. A solid action game that’s worth it if you like
Star Wars.
Multiplayer

Action
A sequel to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Six
months after the events of the first game, a clone
that failed to become Darth Vaders perfect appren-
tice flees captivity and embarks on a journey to un-
derstand his identity. The controls are much better
and it’s fun to use the force with the motion con-
trols. There is a lack of enemy variety. A good ac-
tion game that’s more enjoyable than the first game.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can fight in a 2D fighting mode in
arenas with platforms and stage hazards.

Ghostbusters:
The Video Game
Action . Third-person Shooter . Puzzle
Two years after the events of the movie, Ghost-
busters II, the Ghostbusters have a new recruit that
you play as. The game looks good and has cartoony
visuals reminiscent of the Ghostbusters cartoon se-
ries, the original characters voice their videogame
counterparts, and it also plays well. The game is full
of nods to Ghostbusters fans. A good action game
that’s very fun to play if you liked the Ghostbusters
movies and/or cartoon series, and to play in co-op.
Multiplayer
Two players can play co-op in split screen.

Monster Hunter
Tri
Action
A part of Monster Hunter series, where, as the title
says, you hunt monsters. There’s a variety of weap-
on types, each with their own moves and strategy
behind them. A lot of grinding for parts to make ar-
mour and weapons. The game can get challenging
and requires some mastering of the controls. A great
action game that is definitely recommended if you
like the idea of going around fighting big monsters.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight monsters unlocked through
singleplayer in arenas, in split screen.
Minon:
Everyday Hero
Action . Platformer
Minon helps others by toppling over different item,
buildings, and much more. You make an assortment
of things fall over as you run on top of them, when
there’s nothing to run on top of you need to use en-
ergy to create platforms so that you can reach the
next set of things to run on top of. Moving your Wii
Remote at the right time will increase your speed
and recharge your energy. An okay action platformer
with an interesting and absurd concept.
Multiplayer
Two players can play in a competitive versus mode.

Overturn
Action . Fighting . Third-Person Shooter
On the planet Zastadion hovering robots battle each
other in an arena, competing in a tournament. The
game looks good, but the sound quality is poor. You
can control the robot’s movements with the Balance
Board instead of the nunchuck if you want, but it
is hard to master. There are eight robots, each with
their own attributes, that can be upgraded with parts
from defeated foes as well as customized in a num-
ber of options. An okay action game overall that
might be worth it if you want a game for one-on-
one robot battles.
Multiplayer
Two players can fight in split screen.

Red Steel 2
Action . Hack ‘n’ Slash
A sequel to 2006 Wii game Red Steel, but that
doesn’t have much to do with it. The last member of
the Kusagari Clan loses his katana while breaking
free from the Jackals, now he has to recover it. The
game has a great art style that’s a mix of wild west,
samurais and ninjas. You control the character in
first-person and control the katana and ranged weap-
ons with motion controls and the cursor. The game
controls very well and has hectic fights with bosses
and multiple enemies. A great action hack’n’slash,
very entertaining if you like first-person combat.
Multiplayer
None.
Rodea the Sky
Soldier
Action . 3D Platformer

fly by hitting enemies or objects. The game looks nice
and colourful. The flying controls take some getting
used to, but they work quite well. To get the game you

Wii game. A good action-adventure platformer.
Multiplayer

while battling and getting objectives.

Muscle March
Action
A thief stole your protein jar. Trying to get away
from you, it crashes through walls leaving body-
building pose shaped holes, you need to use the Wii
Remote to pose in accordance to the hole shape so
as to pass through. There are seven characters to
choose from. The game has a very colorful art style
and purposely tries to be over the top and nonsensi-
cal. An okay game that can be fun for its novelty
and ridiculous style.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play in a competitive mode
in which, they take turns trying to break through as
many walls as possible.

The Adventure ReBirth
Action-adventure . Metroidvania

good action-adventure platformer that’s reminiscent
of N64 platformers.

the wiimote,similarly to Mario Galaxy.

Web of Shadows
Action-adventure . Beat ‘em up

with the symbiote. The symbiote also begins infect-
ing the city and now Spider-Man has to save the
day. There are cameos from a lot of characters and
you have six alternate costumes for Spider-Man.
The combat isn’t very good and there are too many
quicktime events, but the web-slinging is solid. A
solid action-adventure game that can be fun if you
want to go around an open city as Spider-Man.

None.

it’s nice how the art style changes in accordance to
the costume. The gameplay is solid, but the controls
are poor. A good Spider-Man game with a good
range of different styles of levels.
Multiplayer
None.

Action-adventure . 3D Platformer
The rabbids want to go back home, so they set of
on an adventure to collect as much stuff as they can
to pile high enough to reach the Moon. You push
around a shopping cart through levels bumping
into objects and animals in order to carry them with
you. The humour is whimsical and lowbrow and
the gameplay is solid, but can get tiresome after a
while. A good action-adventure platformer that can
be amusing if played in short bursts and the Rab-
bids’ humour doesn’t bother you.
Multiplayer
A second player can use the wiimote to throw rab-
bids, hold enemies in place and collect items.

Metroid Other M
Action-adventure
While investigating a distress signal from a “Bottle
Ship”, Samus encounters a platoon with old col-
leagues from her military times and goes on to work
with them. The story is quite poor and will even
occasionally get in the way of the gameplay. The
gameplay is solid and tries to emulate the Metroid
Fusion system in a 3D setting, with the addition of
first-person for more precise aiming (when not in
first-person, there’s auto-aim). An okay action-ad-
venture game that can be enjoyable if you manage
to completely ignore the story.
Multiplayer
None.

is at it seems and they need to escape newfound
peril. The game and its animations look good and

action-adventure game, among the best of the genre
and with an innovative control scheme.
Multiplayer
None.

NiGHTS:
Journey of Dreams
Action-adventure . Platformer
A sequel to the 1996 Sega Saturn game, Nights into
Dreams.... NiGHTS helps two children to stop Wiz-

freaky. The main gameplay is acrobatically flying

points. A good action-adventure platformer that can
be entertaining for the unique gameplay.

The third the title in the Spectrobes series. There are
creatures called Spectrobes that can be leveled up
and used in battle (though your character can also
battle), and are found by excavating their fossils.
The gameplay is solid. The visuals and story have a
Saturday morning cartoon feel to them, but they’re
not very good. A solid action-adventure RPG that is
worth it if you want a pokemon-like RPG in 3D and
with real-time combat.
Multiplayer
A second player can join the game, and dig the min-
erals while exploring and during battles they can
control the Spectrobe.

zles and bosses. You bring up a canvas to paint over
the land, with your wiimote emulating the brush, in
order to defeat enemies or restore the land. Beauti-
ful aesthetic based on japanese folklore and paint-
ings. A great action-adventure game that is possibly
among the best of its genre, and which you’ll prob-
ably like if you enjoy Legend of Zelda games.
Multiplayer
None.

Dive: The Medes

Island Secret

Each level has a primary treasure as well as some
optional treasures. Throughout the levels there are
number of hazards you need to navigate around or
use your spear gun against. The game takes place in

if you like the idea of a 2D diving game where you
hunt for treasure and the fauna and flora are out to
get you.
Multiplayer
None.

La-Mulana
Action-adventure . Metroidvania
A remake of the 2005 PC game by the same name.
Lemeza, an archeologist with an adventurer side be-
yond that of Indiana Jones, goes to explore ancient
ruins. The game has a very nice and purposely retro
MSX style. The game works in a metroidvania way,
with progress enabled by finding new equipment/
items as you progress. The gameplay is solid, but
it’s a very challenging game in terms of both the en-
emies and the puzzles. A great metroidvania game
that’s is entertaining as long as you don’t mind the
difficult games and constant dying.
Multiplayer
None.

er you can control. The gameplay and the shooting
mechanics are solid. A good action-adventure game
that’s great fun if you want to play a GTA-like game
in 1980’s Miami or even just play as Tony Montana.
Multiplayer
None.

The Godfather:
Blackhand Edition
Action-adventure
The game’s story occurs at the same time as the
1972’s The Godfather film, with you playing as a
new character. The game looks good and you have
a big map of 1940’s/50’s New York to roam around.
The gameplay is solid and the brawling and use of
weapons is very good. A great action-adventure

ing gauntlet and begins his rule. The story is humor-
ous. As the Overlord, you can control four different
minion types. The controls work well, you use the
nunchuck to control the Overlord and the wiimote
to order the minions. A good mix of strategy and
action that can be especially entertaining for letting
you play as the evil lord instead of the good guy.
Multiplayer
None.

three heroes, each with their own levels and skills.
There’s Kurt Hectic, a janitor, Max, a robot dog,
and Dr. Fluke Hawkins, a scientist. The game can
be challenging and the platforming isn’t very good.
The graphics aren’t very good, but the general aes-
thetic of the game is nice. A good action-adventure
game that provides a good sequel to the original
MDK.
Multiplayer
None.

Endless Ocean
Adventure . Simulation
Play as a scuba diver in the Manaurai sea. The game-
play is built around swimming around cataloging,
photographing and interacting with sea life. You can
take diving missions and customize your character
as well, but other than that there isn’t much more.
There isn’t any danger posed by the sea life. The
game looks beautiful and the sound production is
also very good. A great exploration game that isn’t
for everyone. Worth a try if you like the idea of a
relaxed game where you can explore the Ocean and
its inhabitants.
Multiplayer
None.
Endless Ocean 2:
Adventures of the Deep
Adventure . Simulation
A sequel to Endless Ocean. The game still revolves
around diving and exploring, but with a number of
changes. There’s a story about finding treasure, dan-
ger of being attacked by sea life, a pulsar to defend

point-and-click adventure that’s worth a try if you
like the genre.
Multiplayer

and crash land on a tropical island. There, they dis-

courtroom setting.

Strong Bad’s Cool

Game For Attractive
People
Adventure . Point-and-click
A series of five episodes based on the Homestar
Runner web series. You control Strong Bad as he
interacts with different characters in the Homestar

mour in order to enjoy. Try to watch some material
online before deciding if you want to try the game.
Multiplayer
None.
Tales of Monkey
Island
Adventure . Point-and-click
The fifth title in the Monkey Island series. Years af-
ter the events of Escape from Monkey Island, Guy-
brush Threepwood is racing to the Rock of Gelato
to save his wife from a demon pirate. The story and
character interactions aren’t very interesting. Sev-
eral technical issues with the game’s performance.
The puzzles can be quite hard. A good point-and-
click adventure, but you might be better off playing
it on the PC.
Multiplayer
None

Bomberman Blast
Party Game . Action
A game in the Bomberman series. There’s a retail
version and a digital version. The retail version in-
cludes a story mode with enemies and bosses. The
game looks nice and plays well. Battles are for the
most part the same as in classic Bomberman games,
but there are new items and upgrades. A great party
game for those that enjoy Bomberman’s gameplay.
If you’re new to the series, maybe get the retail ver-

and fun.

the main story in co-op or compete to solve cases.
Go Vacation

specific activities, with over fifty minigames in to-
tal. There are also a few secrets hidden throughout
the island. The games’ quality variates, with some
of them having solid mechanics and a good amount
of depth and other being quite simplistic and not re-
ally worth playing many times. Likewise, the con-
trols aren’t good in all games. A good party game
that is likely to have some activities in it that you’ll
enjoy playing in a group.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play in split screen.

a good variety of genres, with rhythm, shmups, rac-

variety of minigames and sometimes funny humour.
Multiplayer

simultaneously.

Boom Blox

screen.

Party Game . Minigame Collection
The fifth game in the WarioWare series. A collec-
tion of very hectic microgames and some lengthier

with an offbeat control scheme that can be fun, but
it is mostly entertaining just for its novelty.

Boom Street

Part of the Boom Street series that originated from
a minigame in Dragon Warrior III. A monopoly-like
like in which you can buy and upgrade property,

sell stock for property blocks. Players can choose
where to go in the board (the board isn’t a simple
square) and level up as you go along. You play with

er secrets. A good board game that can be great fun
as a party game.

Mario Party 9
Board Game . Party Game . Minigame Collection
The ninth game in the Mario Party series. In previous
Mario Party games, players would move around the
board independently, in this game all players move
together in one vehicle. As a result, the game is much
more linear, making it easier to understand and play,
but also less deep in gameplay and more dependent
on luck. There are 82 different minigames, and are,
for the most part, well designed. A good board game
that, due to its minigames, might be a better choice
than Mario Party 8 as long as you don’t mind all
characters moving together in the vehicle.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play at once.

Alien Crush Returns

Pinball
A sequel to the 1998 PC game, Alien Crush. The
visuals look gross, which fits the game very well
since everything is made to look like the insides of
an alien. The tables have multiple sections, and you
can take “actions” that will give have effects like
splitting the ball into multiple balls or have it move
backwards. There’s a story mode that includes two
boss battles, but overall there isn’t a lot of content
since there aren’t many tables. A good pinball game
that is very much worth playing if you like the
genre, despite the lack of content.
Multiplayer

The third entry in the Trauma Center series. In 2028,

in co-op.

combat flight game or just want to pretend you’re
in Top Gun.

Hydroventure
Puzzle
A magical encyclopedia called the Aquaticus has
been affected by a dark substance called the Influ-
ence. You need to collect Rainbow Drops in order
to rid the book of the Influence. A puzzle game in
which you take control of a small body of water
and need to tilt the wii remote in order to also tilt
the level and cause the water to move. The water
can also turn into ice and vapor, both of which have
different attributes. The game looks okay and plays
well. A good puzzle game that is worth trying for
the mechanics.

Multiplayer
None.

Art of Balance
Puzzle
A puzzle game in which you need to stack the pro-
vided objects without causing them to fall in the wa-
ter. Though there are shapes with different attributes
the gameplay is very simple, but it controls well and
makes for a relaxing game. Very clean visuals with
nice use of colours. A great puzzle game that’s worth
trying if the concept sounds interesting to you.

Multiplayer
Two players can play in co-op trying to stack to-
gether or against each other in a versus mode in
which they try to solve the puzzle before the other
player.

Lit
Puzzle . Horror
Jake’s high school was taken over by dark creatures.
He has to make his way through the school using
his flashlight and other sources of light in order to
avoid the darkness. Some lights have different me-
chanics like a timer or being on the same fuse and
thus preventing you from lighting a lot of them at
once. The puzzles are interesting and the visuals are
nice. A solid puzzle game that’s a good choice if
you’re running out of horror games or just feel like
a new puzzle game.

Multiplayer
None.
MaBoSHi: The Three
Shape Arcade
Puzzle
There are three minigames (Circle, Bar and Square)
all with the objective to score a million points and
all in the same screen side-by-side. Either you play
a bit of a game at a time, or multiple players play the
games simultaneously. Playing one game will have
effects on the other games. The minigames them-
selves are simple, but how the whole game works
makes it much more complex and interesting. A
good puzzle that’s interesting for its unique concept.
Multiplayer
Up to three players can play at the same time.

Max and the Magic

Marker
Puzzle . 2D Platformer
Max unleashes a monster that starts invading draw-
ing. Now Max must use a magic marker to defeat
the monster. You have control of a marker you use
to draw platforms, destroy enemies and pass other
obstacles. The visuals are okay and the drawing me-
chanic works well, but the platforming is very slow
and the puzzles aren’t very interesting. An okay
puzzle platformer that might be worth it for the in-
teresting concept.
Multiplayer
None. Though the game works all right with one
player controlling Max and another the marker.

Mr. Driller W
Puzzle
The eleventh title in the Mr. Driller series. You have
several characters to choose from that you use to
drill through different coloured blocks. The goal is
to dig to the bottom of the level without running
out of air or having blocks falling on top of you.
There’s also an element of Tetris/Columns since
when groups of four or more blocks of the same
kind connect, they disappear. It has cutesy graph-
ics and the gameplay is solid. A good puzzle game
that’s quite fun to play and has some cute visuals.

Multiplayer
None.
Tetris Party
Deluxe
Puzzle . Party Game
A tetris game with a variety of modes. There’s a
mode to help beginners, a co-op mode, one that uses
the balance board (that isn’t really that interesting),
one in which you have to help a small man climb up
tetris blocks to the top, and more. The new modes
are interesting and help keep the Tetris formula
fresh. A great puzzle game and a solid party game,
if you’ve enjoyed Tetris in the past this could be a
good choice for a title to go back to it.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play in a variety of multi-
player modes.

Toki Tori
Puzzle . 2D Platformer
A remake of the 2001 GameBoy Colour game by
the same name. Toki Tori’s brothers and sisters, that
are still in their eggs, have been swept away and
now Toki Tori has rescue them. In each level you’re
are given a limited set of tools/powers you can use
to beat the level. Cute art style and good anima-
tions. The puzzles are very good and can get quite
challenging, but the gameplay is a bit slow. A good
puzzle platformer that’s a good choice if you enjoy
its cutesy art style and puzzle platformers.

Multiplayer
A second player can help the first player by drawing
on the screen.

World of Goo
Puzzle
A puzzle game in which you build structures out of
goo, that are affected by physics, in order to direct
the goo balls into a pipe. Level have a geometry
and obstacles that will make it so that you have to
think about how you are going to build. Quite odd,
but interesting, art style. The goo structure build-
ing mechanics and the structures’ physics work very
well. A great puzzle game that has a unique concept
and plays very well. Worth trying if you like puzzle
games and the physics based building sounds inter-
esting to you.

Multiplayer
Up to four player can play in co-op.
Art Style: Cubello
Puzzle
Part of the Art Style series of games. You are pre-
sented with a structure made out of multi-coloured
cubes that is constantly rotating. You throw multi-
coloured cubes at the structure in order to destroy
cubes by matching cubes of four or more of the
same colour. There is no time limit, but the number
of turns (moves) you take is counted and you are
initially given a limited number of cubes. There is
also a Bonus Mode that is activated by a slot ma-
chine. The visuals are very simple, but appealing.
A good puzzle game that functions somewhat like
a 3D Columns.
Multiplayer
None.

Art Style: Light Trax

Puzzle . Racing
A part of the Art Style series and a remake of the
2006 Game Boy Advance game, Dotstream. You
control a dot, that leaves a light trail behind it,
through a course filled with obstacles of different
shapes. You are racing against other similar dots to
reach first place and you have to plan how you turn
well so as to not lose ground to the other dots. There
are also some other modes. The aesthetics are nice
and the mechanics are solid. A solid racing game,
but, even though the gameplay is good, you can
quickly lose interest in it.

Multiplayer
None.

Art Style: Orbient

Puzzle
A part of the Art Style series and a remake of the
2006 Game Boy Advance game, Orbital. You con-
trol a white star that you need to crash into other
stars in order to grow. Similarly sized stars can be
absorbed and are indicated as such by the colour
blue. Smaller stars are grey and they can orbit your
star. Red stars are too big to absorb. You use grav-
ity and anti-gravity (which you activate by press-
ing A and B, respectively) in order to control your
orbit and the pull of other stars so as to control your
movement. A good puzzle game that can be chal-
lenging and relaxing at the same time.
Multiplayer
None.
Art Style: Rotohex
Puzzle
A part of the Art Style series and a remake of the
2006 Game Boy Advance game, Dialhex. Your ob-
jective is to create hexagons of the same color and
to achieve this you can rotate hexagons in order to
move the different coloured triangles around. Co-
loured triangles will also fall from above and add
to your pool of triangles. You start with only two
colours with which to create the hexagons, but the
number of colours increases as the game progresses.
A solid puzzle game that can be quite challenging.
Multiplayer
Two players can play in co-op, or competitively
with each player controlling a field, but the two
sharing two columns in the middle.

Art Style:
Penta Tentacles
Puzzle
A part of the Art Style series. You have different co-
loured tentacles you lengthen by collecting goobugs
of the same colour. But, if a tentacle touches a dif-
ferent coloured goobug, then it’s damaged. The
goobugs have different behaviour; some stand still
while others chase after the player. The objective is
to max the length of the tentacles. The classic con-
troller is a bit more intuitive than the wii remote. A
good puzzle game with entertaining gameplay.
Multiplayer
None.

Kororinpa
Puzzle
You tilt the level by tilting your wii remote, in or-
der to lead a marble to the end of the level. Some-
times, you’ll rotate your remote to such a level that
a wall will become the floor, and there will be ob-
stacles that affect how your marble behaves. There
are several marbles to choose from, each with their
own properties. The game can get quite challeng-
ing, with the necessity to be quick and accurate with
your movements. A great puzzle game with some
very fun and accurate controls.
Multiplayer
Two player can compete in split screen to reach the
end of the level first, while collecting the most crys-
tals.
Marbles!
Balance Challenge
Puzzle
A sequel to Kororinpa. The gameplay and controls
are essentially the same as in the previous game, but
this time there are much more levels and features.
There are still a lot of marbles to choose from and
you can also create your own. There’s also a level
editor. Physics are a bit different from the first game,
and possibly not as good. A good puzzle game that’s
worth it if you want some more Kororinpa.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can play in the game’s levels and
custom levels in split screen.

Mercury
Meltdown Revolution
Puzzle
A puzzle game part of the Mercury Meltdown and
Archer Maclean’s Mercury series. You move a ball
of mercury by moving the level around it by tilting
the wii remote, similarly to Kororinpa. There are
quite a few environmental hazards and mechanics
to deal with. The puzzles are logical and it controls
well. A good puzzle game that you’ll likely enjoy if
you found the Kororinpa games fun.

Multiplayer
None.

And Yet It Moves

Puzzle . 2D Platformer
A port of the 2009 PC game by the same name.
You need to get to the end of the level. By rotating
the wii remote (though there are alternative control
methods) you also rotate the level and everything on
it. You need to use the rotation of the level in order
to have the character fall from big heights safely,
move obstacles or create alternative platforms. The
game’s visuals imitate those of a paper collage, with
the levels made up of ripped paper. A solid puzzle
platformer that makes for some relaxed puzzle solv-
ing, but with limited interest.

Multiplayer
None.
Arkanoid Plus!
Puzzle
A remake of the 1986 arcade game, Arkanoid. You
control a paddle that’s used to bounce a ball in order
to break the blocks in the level. The game’s visuals
aren’t very good, but the gameplay is solid and what
you’d expect of an arkanoid game. A great puzzle
game. If you liked playing arkanoid in the past,
you’ll probably enjoy this game even if it doesn’t
really have any big additions to the gameplay for-
mula.

Multiplayer
Two players can play against each other in a versus
mode or they can play in co-op.

Pokémon
Rumble
Dungeon Crawler
You control a small pokemon that you improve by
going dungeon crawling. When you reach a high
enough level, you can participate in a battle royale.
The real time combat with two attack slots can get
quite repetitive, but there is some complexity by
having a diversity of pokemon to use and the usual
strengths and weaknesses of pokemon types. There
are a total of 257 pokemon in the game. A solid dun-
geon crawler that can be fun in short bursts.
Multiplayer
Up to four players can co-op.

Tenchu: Shadow
Assassins

A stealth game of the Tenchu series. Rikimaru and
Ayame are sent to investigate a possible plot. You
control both characters in different levels. Move
around the levels stealthily using the environment to
your advantage and taking down enemies. There are

get very challenging. The controls mostly work well,
with the exception of the stealth kills. A good stealth
game that is quite enjoyable if you like the genre.
Multiplayer

Tower Defense . RPG
