To develop good skills one should have vast practical
exposure along with the theoretical knowledge. Field Survey
Project makes the student fully aware with the intricacies and
usefulness of survey or research in the field of management and
also offers a real exposure of the various attributes associated
with the field survey.
As a part of the academic syllabus of the two year Post
Graduation Diploma course in Management (Insurance and Risk
Management), we get the opportunity to conduct a field survey
on a topic which is specific to or a social problem under the
guidance of a faculty member. This project is completely based
on Primary Data & Secondary Data.
The main objective of my study is to find out the reason of
moral degradation of society for that I have conducted a survey
based on primary data. This report has been made in an effort to
summarize all the valuable information gathered by various
respondents. This research has been done with a view to analyze
in which manner we can control the degradation of moral value
in society.
It will create a new environment in which people are more
aware and responsible towards the societal problem.

INTRODUCTION

The moral value and the moral characters are very necessary for
the life because on the basis of these two things people create their
structure of behavior and social manner.
Human being is a social animal so the society will be there where
the moral values and the moral religion will present. It may be in favor of
economical, political or any type of happening. The moral values
maintain their importance.
What is the moral value? Manner, sacrifice, respect of elders,
follow the rules of social and personal. The culture of any country is the
management of their moral values, ideals, emotions, symbols and trust
which is transferred to one generation to another generation. But we
forget our moral values of life and try to avoid our culture.
We can easily see the degradation of moral values in society within
following levels-
Distorted forms of economic thinking, distorted form of political
thinking, unbelief, preference to reserve life, selfish, unemployment,
frustration, uninterested in spiritual activity and marketwise.
Moral degradation is often seen in our new generation because the
things that the values, ideals, emotions and trust are worthless. The main
reason of these things is the marketism, in other words physical attraction
with society. In present, market is the main part of our life. In past, the
market was present for needs but in nowadays the market give birth to
needs. Today the worth of human and humanity is considered from the
market.
 Now days the ideals of new generation are not Malviya Ji, Subhash
Chandra Bose and Vivekananda, but they are film stars. Today the youth
thinks that they are the best, they think only for themselves and cannot be
taking any type boundation. They think so, everything is correct which
they do. Therefore, this is the main reason that they promote Gay culture
which means the same kinds of sex person live together which is totally
degradation of moral values.
Only survive in the climate is not the life even living with worth
full life is a real life. It is very necessary to opt the permanent moral value
to live a real life. We can’t avoid these types of things.
DEFINITION OF MORAL VALUES
Moral values are things held to be right or wrong or desirable or
undesirable. While morality is sometimes described as 'innate' in humans,
the scientific view is that a capacity for morality is genetically determined
in us, but the set of moral values is acquired, through example, teaching,
and imprinting from parents and society. Different cultures have very
different moral value systems. Moral values, along with traditions, laws,
behavior patterns, and beliefs, are the defining features of a culture.

THE TRUTH ABOUT "MORAL VALUES"

What Are Moral Values?

Consider these possible definitions of "moral values:"

Universally accepted, compassionate, loving, Christ-like principles

-- Ethical and honorable ways to relate of others -- The practice of
encouraging unity, harmony and brotherhood -- The principles and modes
of behavior taught by Jesus (as written in the Christian Bible.)

Moral = Webster's Dictionary defines "moral" as: Relating to, dealing

with, or capable of making the distinction between right or wrong
conduct -- Principles, standards habits with respect to right or wrong in
conduct.

Values = Webster's Dictionary defines "values" as: The social

principles, goals or standards held or accepted by an individual, a class, a
society, etc.

Right = Webster's Dictionary defines "right" as: In accordance with

fact, reason, justice, law, and morality; correct in thought and action;
Synonyms for right include: correct, honest, ethical, just, true, accurate,
precise, suitable, fitting, appropriate, proper.

Wrong = Webster's Dictionary defines "right" as: Contrary to fact or

reason, unlawful, crooked, twisted, immoral, improper; Synonyms for
wrong include: dishonest, illegal, mistaken, criminal,
unethical, sinful, unsuitable, inappropriate improper, incorrect, injurious,
harmful, damaging, unjust.

It seems fair to boil the definition of moral

values down to:
Beliefs and personal opinions about: what is right (honest, ethical,
true) conduct and what is wrong (dishonest, false, harmful) conduct held
by individuals and held collectively by socially cohesive groups of
individuals.

Varanasi blasts : New wave of terror

That the Varanasi blasts was not a stray

incident, was confirmed by the
detection of two kilograms of explosive
ammonia nitrate from the Bacilli
Railway Station in Central Mumbai on
Saturday, March 11. Apart from the
explosive filled in a plastic water bottle,
the police recovered a pocket-size
transformer that could have provided
the power if a detonator was to be attached to the device. Police
Commissioner A.N.Ray said a high alert has been sounded in the city and
security tightened at all places of worship, railway stations and vital
installations. The seizure came a day before the 13th anniversary of the
serial bomb blasts on March 12, 1993 which killed 256 persons and
injured 713, besides causing damage to property worth Rs. 27 crore.
Early this year, three terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly
having links with Laskhar-e-Taiba leader Sayyad Salahuddin, were
arrested from the busy Nagpada area of central Mumbai, along with
highly sophisticated wireless detonators. In neighboring Goa, the police
arrested a militant on charges of plotting an attack. Director General of
Police Niraj Kumar said in Panaji on March 11 that the police arrested
Tariq Anwar at Margo railway station. He was found to be carrying
explosives and fire arms. Tariq is reported to have confessed during
interrogation that Pakistan-based Tehrique-ul-Mujahiddin, the terrorist
outfit to which he belongs, was targeting busy tourist places in the state.
The police recovered two kilograms of RDX, two Russian hand grenades,
a detonator, three mobile phones and three cameras from Tariq. The DGP
said that Tariq had undergone two and a half years of training in Pakistan
and had also traveled to Bangladesh and Nepal. Police teams have fanned
out across the state to check his local links and more arrests are likely.

THE DECLINE OF MORALITY IN OUR SOCIETY
The other day I was talking with a man who is worried about his 15
year old daughter. His concern came when he found she was seeing a
young man of 21 in an inappropriate manner, and his daughter could not
see anything wrong with the relationship no matter how hard this man
tried to explain it. And as we were talking about this at a function weeks
later, one of the teenagers who overheard our discussion on the topic also
saw no problem, and went on to inform us how things like this occur on a
daily basis in and away from school, and began to boast how he could
have sex with just about any girl from the age of 14 on up with no
problem.
He explained the different sites where ads are put out for free,
where anyone can write about anything that can be concocted in the
human mind, and get replies. I asked him for the site, and he gave it to
me. It was then I decided to browse through and actually see one of the
most shocking sites I have ever seen. On the outside, it looks like a fairly
innocent trader magazine type site, with people selling cars, furniture,
electronics, and labor services. But one can go to the Personals section
and look under the various types of personal ads beginning with the
typical men and women seeking each other, etc. Then it goes into the
homosexual and other misc. sections. What I saw were people posting
their ads, some with nasty pictures included, requesting things with other
people I had no idea of. But my teenage friend was correct. The ads had
young women and men attempting to sell themselves for money or drugs,
and whatever else.
 The appalling thing to me was that this site is free, and has nothing
except a button that allows the user to claim they are of legal age before
entering. Any child can easily walk right in and read some of the most
deranged postings that can be conceived. But it was not just the teenagers
that bothered me; I saw many posts for married people looking for trysts
and other strange requests. Many of these people were between their mid-
twenties and on into their forties.
There were young women who wanted to stay married, yet wanted
to glean extra money on the side by selling their various services, and
married men who posted desires to exchange money for those similar
acts. I will not even get into the rest of what was there. But it made me
look deeper at why so many people, especially our youth, are so
enamored with sex and money to the point they would cheapen
themselves and think it perfectly alright. And of course there are many
reasons I believe. The Liberal views that took root in the 60's have begun
coming to full fruition. The Sexual Revolution as the Women Movement
called it took hold. How they ever figured it would benefit women is
beyond me, but they pushed it. Then the Gay movements arrived, and
took hold in a militant form that has an agenda to have our children
taught that their lifestyle is just fine, and should be explored. Reading
some of those ads, it also became evident that roots had strongly taken in
our society. It is quite evident that having "fun" is more important than
traditional; values such as hard work and fidelity.
Then the massive thrust of television and theaters that taught these
same people that sex, and alternative lifestyles, marital infidelity, and
divorce are all to be accepted as normal. The violence from Hollywood
has also inundated the minds of our society, and has taken root as well.
And even further, is the Liberal PC movement that takes into regard
many of these lifestyles and embraces them as acceptable, all the while
bashing Christianity and its value system. We have allowed in this nation
to have the Bible, and mention of Christian values taken from society and
have allowed all these other immoral and destructive behaviors and
lifestyles to become seen as normal.
Yet, women are finding now that the militant Feminist movement
has trapped them rather than liberated them. We now have many more
abortions, many more single women trying to raise children due to
divorce, or never having been married at all because for decades, this has
been rewarded by one sided divorce rulings that offered no consequence
for infidelity or real abuse. Why commit to marriage when divorce is so
easy and so profitable?
We have allowed Hollywood to flood our homes with garbage
sitcoms and movies that endorse and glorify these strange values. And we
have allowed the alternative lifestyles to be taught to our children as
acceptable, because God forbid we ever be called Homophobes by the
Left thinkers.
And in this age of technology and mass media where we have to
power and ability to use these things for the good of our society, we use
them for its corruption and degradation. And we see the battle
everywhere now, in our homes, in the office, in schools, in the court
systems, and in our politics. And for anyone who has a sense of decency
and morality, this is heart breaking at best.
And the Conservative Voice must be heard again in this nation. We
need to disregard PC, disregard the small minority who wants God from
our society and gladly pay for one way tickets to a Communist nation
where those ideals are favored. We need to demand a moral government
and we need to hold those politicians responsible for their example. Bill
Clinton himself no doubt had a huge impact when he basically
proclaimed that what he did was no big deal. To cheat on ones' wife, to
humiliate the office of President, to lie about it, our children saw and
absorbed. After that episode, I talked to many teens who felt it was no
problem as well and also took on those traits. Our children, our future,
and they are of the mindset that infidelity is acceptable and just run from
problems by divorcing or aborting human life is just fine when the going
gets tough. We see our daughters and sons degrading each other, and we
see wives becoming prostitutes and husbands refusing to live as men as
an example to their children and wives.
We see a nation of self centered ideology where the upcoming
generations desire all their parents have without the hard work. We have
a very large population of young men in their 20's and 30's still living at
home with little ambition. Because they know when the parents are gone
they will inherit what they now have. Why become educated? Why work?
Just have fun until Pay Day arrives in the form of a funeral. Why get a
job when there are so many men willing to pay for a woman’s' body?
Why stay married when things get shaky, when a divorce and another
spouse will make everything better?
We have seen to roots of Liberalism take a strong hold, and we are
now reaping the fruits of it in our society. Because a nation is no stronger
than its family structure I do not care how wealthy or powerful. Rome fell
to decadence and Liberalism, and extreme taxation, and they last for 1200
years. We have achieved that decadence and immorality in just 200 years.
This in the area of mathematical probability means we will also fall much
faster if we do not return to our original roots. And as it says in
Deuteronomy about the nation that walks from God, our children will be
servants of the foreigners, our food that we grow will be eaten by those
who do not inhabit the land, we will see diseases that cannot be
controlled or cured, and eventually we shall ebb into the past where
Babylon, Alexandra, Rome, and others have passed before us.
 Or we will reclaim our roots and our morality and take back what
has been stolen from us by the Liberal and immoral tenets that have
soaked the minds of the generations coming up after us. Or the roots that
we now step over will strangle the life of this nation.
REASON OF MORAL DEGRADATION
OF SOCIETY IN VARANASI

1. MEDIA EFFECT

The Media Motivation According to Bernard Cañaberal,

"Communication remains God's great gift to humanity without which we
cannot be truly human, reflecting God's image (Cañaberal)." Freedom of
speech is implicit in individuals possessing their own free will. Because
of their free will, individuals have expressed their thoughts, desires, and
aspirations through the mass media. Communicating freely with others
affirms the dignity and worth of every other member of society. Meaning,
freedom of expression is essential to attainment and advancement of
knowledge. Communication brings forth various ideas and information.
People today are better informed and more enlightened thanks to thriving
press freedom and expanding information discrimination here and in
many parts of the world. All points of view are represented in the
"marketplace of ideas" and society benefits from debate about their merit.

"Monkey see, monkey do" has become a well-known saying in today's

society. In addition, this is how media influences society as it leaves a
large impact on the individuals. Media has been considered as the most
dominant art form as it has an innate power to engage and affect the total
person. Media leaves a compelling and lasting impact on both the
conscious and subconscious (Hewitt). Though media's role is to inform,
educate and entertain, it also corrupts and exploits, contributing to the
moral degradation of society. It tells the truth and provides positive
stimulation that can build up images and reputations the right way. Media
should exert an effort to restore the morals of society as it has contributed
to some decline to the moral standards, by demonstrating reflection of the
different aspects of society.
2. COMMUNICATIONS

Freedom of speech is a right of individuals as they possess their

to the moral degradation of society.
The moral fabric of our society has been coming apart for some
time. Sex and violence have been big sellers through media outlets but at
the expense of our children as well as the society they live in. children are
very impressionable and they emulate what they hear on the radio and see
on both television and movies. We must safeguard and change what our
children are exposed to.
3. CORRUPTION

“Corruption is like a hidden tiger in the bushes, waiting to pounce on

the deer (rule of law), catch it by the neck and finally strangulate it to
death. Unless the tiger is caged it will continue to wreak havoc.”

mind-boggling facts of corruption in
India, but beware, this is only the tip of
the ice burg. Today whenever we enter
in a discussion about the factors
hampering the development of our country, we without fail mention the
word ‘corruption’. So, what does corruption mean? Abuse of public
power for private gains is described as corruption3. But this appears to be
too simplistic an explanation of corruption. In fact it is a multi-faceted
evil, which gradually kills a system. Another definition of corruption is
dishonest or illegal behavior, especially of people in authority4. To
understand the far-reaching effects of corruption, it is important here to
mention the observations of the Supreme Court in a recent judgment.
“Corruption in a civilized society is like cancer, which if not
detected in time is sure to malignise the polity of the country leading to
disastrous consequences. It is termed as a plague, which is not only
contagious but if not controlled spreads like a fire in a jungle. Its virus
is compared with HIV leading to AIDS, being incurable. It has also
been termed as royal thievery. The socio-political system exposed to
 such a dreaded communicable disease is likely to crumble under its
own weight. Corruption is opposed to democracy and social order,
being not only anti-people, but also aimed and targeted at them. It
affects the economy and destroys the cultural heritage. Unless nipped
in the bud at the earliest, it is likely to cause turbulence social,
economic, and political system in an otherwise healthy, wealthy,
effective and vibrating society”.
Further the article substantiates on the concept of rule of law. The
essence of rule of law is equality before law or equal protection of law
and protection from arbitrary exercise of power by the State. For a
democratic government, the rule of law is the basic requirement, and for
the maintenance of rule of law, there must be an independent, impartial
and independent judiciary. It has been held that the rule of law is a basic
feature of the Constitution and cannot be taken away even by an
amendment of the Constitution.6 Rule of law has been enunciated in a
manner, which provides that the State shall not deny to any person
equality before law or the equal protection of laws.
Coming to the crux of the matter the article is an attempt to
understand ‘how corruption is the assassin of rule of law in India’? To
understand the gravity of the situation it is important to understand the
following aspects.

Rot in the pillar

The Shamit Mukerjee scandal shocked our conscience and lead to
the questioning the ‘sanctity’ of the higher Indian judiciary.
The judiciary is a pillar of rule of law. Unless its house is in order,
it cannot exercise effective control over the Executive and the
Legislature. The judiciary is accountable to the citizens, and has on so
many occasions emerged as the knight in shining armor for the weak and
oppressed.
Corruption at any level is damaging, however it has a debilitating
effect at the grassroots level of the judicial system. A former Chief
Justice of India, in course of his tenure, was frank enough to admit that
there was corruption in the ranks of the judiciary to some extent, mostly
at the lower levels.”8 Anti-corruption laws such as the Prevention of
Corruption Acts, 1947 and 1988, have not really succeeded in checking
corruption. The constitutional provision for impeachment of judges of
High Courts and of the Supreme Court is impracticable, leading to
rampant corruption in the judiciary and undermining its credibility. The
reason for this situation is not difficult to make out as the judiciary enjoys
enormous powers without much accountability.
The disease of judicial corruption has, therefore to be tackled by
other methods before it assumes epic proportions.
The need for an alternative method of getting rid of judges of
doubtful integrity is urgently needed; it is possible to fight corruption in
the judiciary, only if changes are made in the Constitution for premature
retirement of public servants in public interest on the ground of doubtful
integrity regardless of the length of service put in. The power to retire
will have to be in the hands of the judiciary itself to maintain its
independence. The view expressed by the Supreme Court in O.P.
Bhandari v. ITDC Ltd. (1986)9 suggests that such a provision will be
valid.
Getting rid of the undesirable elements alone is not enough. The
most deserving candidates must fill up the resultant vacancies by
amending the rules of recruitment at the entry point. The first few
national law universities have changed the face of legal education in
India, leading to many positive results. To improve the quality of justice
at the level of subordinate judiciary, there needs to be reform in the
training imparted to aspiring judges. To encourage the toppers to go in for
a judicial career, a system of quick promotions should be introduced, the
basis of which should be merit, performance and especially integrity.

Fighting Corruption
To fight corruption, honest political leadership is a must as a first
step. Those holding positions of consequence should not compromise
with the aspects of good governance for the sake of holding the chair for
a few numbers of days more. And secondly opening the economy to
investors around the world can provide the needed capital and should
reduce government control. Fresh ideas and entrepreneurial spirit has to
replace the beauracratic government control for a wealthier society.
Another essential component of anti-corruption strategy is the strict
enforcement of the principle of accountability at all levels. In India
decisions regarding public matters are taken at various levels of
government in which discretionary power may be involved but there is
general lack of accountability in administration.
The judiciary has a key role in ensuring that political and
administrative power is used only in accordance with law and every one
is held accountable for wrongdoing or misuse of authority. Further delay
is one of the major causes of corruption. Therefore to reduce or control
corruption it is necessary to eliminate such delays.
Even though efforts like the CBI’s nationwide raid on 7th April
2005 and Prevention of Corruption Act, Indian Penal Code and the
Wireless Act are laudable, but it is clearly evident that it is not enough.
Our anti-corruption strategies should be made keeping in mind the
following three points:
(i) Simplification of governmental hierarchy keeping accountability in
focus;
(ii) Greater transparency and empowerment of the public and
(iii) Effective deterrence and punishment. In this strategy citizen
participation has a key role.
VARANASI BLASTS : NEW WAVE OF TERROR

Two bomb blasts ripped thorough the temple town of Varanasi in

Eastern Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, March 7, heralding a new wave of
terrorist attacks in the country. There are indications that the Varanasi
explosions were mounted by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-
Mohammed groups which have been responsible for many such incidents
in the past. A little known outfit, Lashkar-e-Kahar, believed to be a front
for the Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed, and claimed
responsibility for the blasts in which more than 20 people died. The
Varanasi Cantt Railway Station and Sankat Mochan Temple were the
main targets of the attack. The worst hit was the railway station where 14
persons were killed and 30 injured in a powerful explosion outside the
waiting room on Platform No. 1 where a Delhi-bound train was at the
time stationary. Just before this, a bomb wants off at the Sankat Mochan
Temple which was full of devotees. At least six persons were killed and
25 injured in the explosion. The security forces also recovered explosive
devices at other places in the city, which did not explode and were
defused later. Home Ministry officials said that they believed that the
blasts were part of a planned conspiracy. They said the terrorists chose
Tuesday for the blasts as there is a heavy rush of devotees at the Sankat
Mochan Temple on that day. Within hours of the Varanasi blasts, a
special task force team of the Uttar Pradesh police, helped by a team of
the Jammu and Kashmir police, gunned down a terrorist in Lucknow on
Wednesday morning (March 8). The police later claimed that the killed
terrorist may have been involved in the terror attacks in Varanasi. The
STF team said that the terrorist, Salar Aka Illullah Aka Doctor Aka
Salem, was an expert in planting explosives and was the area commander
of the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Uttar Pradesh. The STF claimed that he was
also involved in the attack on Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, in
which a scientist was killed. A Pakistan-made “Star” pistol, a telephone
diary containing slips issued by PCO booths for overseas calls made by
him, detonators, fuse and 2.5 kg. of RDX were recovered from his
possession. On Wednesday itself, two terrorists owing allegiance to
Lashkar-e-Taiba, were gunned down in an encounter with the Delhi
Police in North West Delhi. The police say that the persons gunned down
wanted to carry out a terror attack in the national capital. The deceased
have been identified as Lashkar Bangladesh chief Ghulam Hassan alias
Kajol. Forty pockets of plastic (PETN) explosives weighing four
kilograms, one AK 56 with two magazines and 51 rounds , four hand
grenades, two Luger-make imported pistols with two magazines and fake
currency were recovered from the slain militants. “Intercepts of phone
conversations between Abu Ali Kama and Tariq Ahmed Dar a few days
after the Delhi serial blasts revealed that Let was planning more attacks in
the city and busy markets are their specific targets,” a senior police
official said. The terrorists were carrying plastic explosives which,
experts say, could cause an explosion stronger than the one seen during
the serial blasts.
 The 2005 political season was dominated by the discussion of
'moral values'. This was often intertwined with the term "family values".
What were the pundits talking about?

Morality and moral values appear at first glance to be equivalent

expressions. Both go back to a Latin term from which we derive the word
"mores", which means customs or usages. In other words, morality
should be seen originally to have been an extrapolation from the customs
which are passed down through the generations in a society. Now, in the
modern era, when we begin to think in terms of universal morals and
universal values, there has been some attempt, so far largely inadequate,
to separate customs that derive their value only from their familiarity
from morals that can be defended on a universal basis.

For the individual the outputs of moral values are action in the
service of others, or support for such action, and living a life that you
would like to see emulated by others in what you would then imagine to
be a better world. The moral person lives in terms of his or her emotions
and needs unless and until this interferes with the rights and interests of
others.

The four essential value cluster for the moral society are freedom,
empathy, truth, and contribution. All are crosscut by and interrelated
by a sense of balance. No value, no concept exists that is not worthless or
worse when it is treated autonomously or when it is out of balance with
others on the same plane.

The most basic of all moral values is truth, for only when we value
truth will be able to evaluate what the other values actually mean. Moral
values must be taught through the schools and other institutions devoted
to the pursuit and dissemination of truth rather than the teaching of
ideology or custom. A commitment to truth means first that the moral
society always takes the side of truth, in so far as its leaders can
understand what is true. A society or individual dedicated to truth faces
reality rather than obscures it. The members of such a society strive to
escape from the childish beliefs of young children or the uneducated,
beliefs that rely on little more than tradition supported by untested and
untestable pseudo facts.

Honest people are those who act, speak, and live in terms of the
truth as they understand it and diligently try to discover the truth when
they are unsure. Therefore, the scientist, or the non ideological researcher
in any field, is the most moral of people. Research and teaching
according to the best available knowledge is consequently one of the
most moral of professions.

Honesty is never betraying what we know deep down is true.

Individuals can, of course, differ as to what is true. For example, some
people may actually believe in a god that guarantees the success of
America or a god who prefers one football team to another. Many persons
attend a burial in the belief that the person being buried in the grave
before them will go to a heaven where we can "meet again in the sweet
bye and bye." But if one does not believe these things, he is dishonest to
act as though he does, for in so doing he obscures truth and betrays those
around him.

A common and corroding form of dishonesty in our culture is

product endorsement by celebrities (unless, of course, in the rare instance
that they actually believe what they are saying). Such endorsements are
doubly immoral because the person both acts immorally as an individual
and erode the values of others who take him or her as a role model. The
politician is dishonest when he simultaneously supports tax cuts and
spending programs. He would not be dishonest if he really believed that
the government would have more money to spend because of the tax cuts
and he had made a sustained effort to understand the arguments for and
against this position.

Another common form of dishonesty is the stretching of the truth,

or what one knows to be true, in the service of what the speaker believes
is a "higher value". Common examples may be found in the arguments of
"ecologists". Ecology began as a purely scientific study of the relations of
organisms with one another and with the inorganic background in
particular environments. While many ecologists continue to follow this
path in a truly scientific manner, others have taken on a more prophetic
role. This has a moral side in that teaching about certain ecological
dangers can contribute to the future of humanity. It can also have a
romantic side that leads to emphasis on maintaining or returning to states
of nature that may appeal to the ego but are not necessarily in the interest
of others. Personally, I place myself among the romantics. I love nature
and sometimes do not want to inquire too deeply of its secrets. But
preserving all ecological balances just because they have traditionally
existed has little scientific or moral justification. Striving to preserve a
natural balance that has historically killed millions with viruses or
hurricanes, with or without global warming: this expresses a personal
value, not a moral value.

After this preamble, let us return to "family values", a category

orthogonal to the four essential value clusters suggested above.
Apparently what is meant in the American political dialogue is emphasis
on the importance to society of monogamous couples in which the
partners love one another, produce children, love them, and take
responsibility for them until they launch rewarding lives that will lead
them to repeat the cycle. These would seem to be an unexceptional subset
of "moral values". Unfortunately, what many tack on to the concept of
family values are adherences to customary ways of living and judging
one another that have little moral about them. Society must, for example,
deal positively with homosexuality, which for many people is a fact of
life rather than a personal choice. Yet family values have been used as a
rubric to devalue homosexuals or aspects of their relationships. The
discussion of family values also devalues divorce, even though it is well
known that divorce is undoubtedly preferable to the alternatives in many
cases. Much the same can be said for many pre-marital sexual relations:
sex without marriage may often be preferable to sex with marriage, where
too often, the result is a broken home with or without divorce. The
requirement that sex and marriage go together has led to many marriages
by those too young to take responsibility for a family. The question here
is not whether what the advocates of family values condemn should or
should not be condemned as "immoral". The issue is rather that it is not a
moral undertaking to arbitrarily rule actions or practices immoral by
reference to traditional prejudices. What is placed within the category
"family values" must be open to the same search for truth and evidence as
any other items that find their way onto the moral agenda.

I recently came across an article that implicitly challenges the

assumption that family values exist only in a traditional society that
emphasizes religious belief. It was a memoir in the New Yorker (March
27, pages 44-57) by Calvin Trillion of his wife Alice, who died in 2001
after thirty-five years of marriage. He paints a picture of an ideal woman
whose life was characterized by freedom, empathy, truth, and
contribution to the nth degree. Although she always worked, teaching and
editing, she was wholeheartedly devoted to her daughters and her
husband. On child-rearing theories he writes that he and Alice came to
"agree on a simple notion: your children are either the center of your life
or they are not, and the rest is commentary." More humorously, he had
written in an earlier memoir: "My wife's policy on attending school plays
(a policy that also covers pageants, talent shows, revues, recitals, and
spring assemblies) is pretty well known: she believes that if your child is
in a school play and you don't go to every performance, including the
special Thursday matinee for the fourth grade, the county will come and
take the child." Alice struggled through several bouts of serious illness,
recovering just enough at the last to walk down the aisle for her second
daughter's marriage. She felt her job was done. She went beyond the
family on many occasions to help people in many walks of life. She
fought against social evils, particularly smoking and what she considered
excess wealth. From an enlightenment perspective, we should not be
surprised that Trillion tells us that her attitude toward religion "was
somewhere between uninterested and hostile."

Our country has made tremendous strides in the various fields,
including science and technology so much so that now we are to join the
comity of developed nations. But we will have to realize that our country
is lying on the hot bed of corruption and crimes as well as moral crisis.
Ultimate solution to these problems lies only in Islam. These were the
views expressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Ameer Maulana Syed
Jalaluddin Umari at an Eid Get-Together with leaders of different faiths,
journalists and activists at its headquarters in the Capital on September
26.
While referring to the blessings of Ramadan, the Jamaat chief said
the holy month trains the believers to exercise perfect control over desires
and emotions and to sympathize with those who stand in need. “Had
people learnt these two lessons, the world would have been a different
place to live in,” the Maulana asserted in his typical emphatic style.
Maulana Umari came down heavily on the education system as
well as print and electronic media for giving way to diminishing moral
values. “Diminishing moral values in the educational curriculum is
deplorable whereas the real purpose of education is to make good
citizens,” he lamented.
Elaborating the point, the Maulana said incidents of sexual anarchy
are taking place in educational institutions, offices and other public
places; even the heinous crime of homosexuality is being sought to be
decriminalized. A cursory glance on the society reveals that it is the
educated and the elite and not the illiterate who are most often found
involved in illicit relationships, promiscuity and other crimes and
corruption. “Is this the fruit of education our educational institutions are
imparting?” the Maulana wondered.
A gist of Jamaat Ameer’s speech in chaste Urdu was presented in
flowing English by Dr. M. Rafat, president of Delhi and Haryana Zone of
the organization.
Earlier, in his welcome speech, Jamaat’s Secretary General Nusrat Ali
presented a brief but comprehensive introduction of the activities and
services the Jamaat has been rendering since its inception for the good of
society.
The Jamaat has tried to make the teachings of the Qur’an and
Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless and greet him) reach out to the
common man in the country. For this purpose the organization has
produced translations of the Qur’an, Seerah and other literature as well as
newspapers, magazines, periodicals and websites in as many as 15
languages of the country.
Mr. Ali also dwelt upon how his organization addresses the
problems of corruption, characterlessness and fascism. He lamented that
till yesterday we used to say that there was criminalization of politics but
now we see that there is politicization of crimes.
He called upon the Indian Muslims to present a practical example
of what they believe in; only then we can change the society for the
better.
Jamaat’s Secretary for Education Mohammad Ashfaque Ahmed
conducted the programme while Secretary for Dawah and organizer of
the programme Iqbal Mulla extended vote of thanks to the audience.
 The dignitaries attending the programme included Shankaracharya
Onkaranandji; Ambassador of Iran in New Delhi; representatives of Iran
Culture House and French Embassy; Udit Raj, president National Justice

 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

• To know what is the reason of moral degradation of society in

Varanasi.

• To know, “Is moral value important or not for human being?

• To know in which manner we can control the degradation of moral

value in society in Varanasi.

 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
TYPE OF RESEARCH: Descriptive Research includes surveys & fact-
finding enquires of different kinds. The major purpose of Descriptive
research is description of the state of affairs as it exists at present. In
Business research we quite often use the term Ex post facto research for
descriptive research studies.
TYPE OF DATA COLLECTED: Primary Data & Secondary Data.
Primary Data are original & first hand information. Secondary Data are
second hand information & are collected through different sources.
 Primary: Primary Data collected method is questionnaire. A

questionnaire is a form of containing a series of questions and

providing space for their replies to be filled in by the respondent
himself/herself. Questionnaire is filled in by a respondent without
any direct oral explanation or interpretation from the investigator.
 Secondary: Textbooks & websites.

UNIVERSE OF STUDY : Universe means the inclusion of all the items

in the field of statistical enquiry. Here, the universe is the entire
population of Varanasi & the study was organized within this region
only.
SAMPLE UNIT : Topic is related to social problem, therefore the age
limitation is required so that the response is considered.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUES: Convenient Technique is one in which
researchers select those units of the population in the sample which
appear convenient to him or to the management of the organization where
he is conducting research
SAMPLE SIZE: When only a few part of whole group of population is
studied that is termed as sample size of whole population. Here the
sample size is 100.
STATISTICAL TOOLS: Different statistical tools are applied here.
Some of them are:
 TABULAR PRESENTATION: It is a systematic presentation of

numerical data in columns & rows in accordance with some

important feature or characteristics.
 PICTORIAL PRESENTATION: it is visual form of statistical

data in diagrams & graphs. Different types of Diagrams are used

such as: Simple Bar Diagrams, Sub Divided Bar Diagram, Multiple
Bar Diagram, Pie-Diagram etc. Graphs have also been used like
Line Graph.
RESEARCH DESIGN: As the result we require in analytical form. The
survey was conducted using questionnaire method. By using this method
we found the present situation & the analysis & findings are described in
the further.

CONCLUSION
 A majority of people 93% are in favor of that moral value are
diminishing these days in human beings.
 39% people accept that television is responsible for the
degradation of moral value in society.
 A maximum number of people (58%) agree that friend circle
affect the degradation of moral value in society.
 77% people are in favor of that making moral science
compulsory in the schools makes the students really morally
responsible.
 59% people think that yes moral value should be the part of
education to develop the personality of a child.
 A majority of people that is 66% keep the moral value in their
life at top rank.
 A maximum number of people that is 67% are in opinion of
knowledge about culture can improve the degradation of moral
value in society.
 88% people are in favor of that we can improve the
degradation of moral value by stopping the corruption.
 56% people are agreeing that we can control the degradation
of moral value by preventing the preference of nuclear family.
 A maximum number of people that is 58% are in opinion that
we can control the degradation of moral value by stopping the
Gay Culture.
LIMITATION
The project has some limitations because it is totally based on efforts
of individual. Propels may be careless and may not give correct
answer to the questions, because of so many reasons:
 It is totally based on personal efforts of individual.
 Some of the respondents are enable to under stand the
questionnaire.
 Some respondent are not interested in filling questionnaire.
 Time constraint did not allow using larger sample size.
 Some ware not interested in telling their personal view.
 Topic is related to societal problem that’s why people were not
care about it.
