E-Portfolio Instructions

1. Open the e-portfolio outline Word document.

2. Double-click the header section to change your header. Type in a shortened version of your e-portfolio’s
title into the header. Type it in ALL CAPS.

3. If the page number becomes centered on the page, click to the left of the number and select the tab
button to make sure the page number right-justified as pictured above.
4. Click on the “Close Header and Footer” button to close out and return to the rest of the document.

5. Next, navigate to the center of the cover page and locate the title and name area.

6. Type the full name of your project on the top line in place of “Type the Full Name of Your Project
Here”. On the second line, type your full name in place of “Type Your Full Name Here”. Leave
Jacksonville State University untouched.
7. Scroll to the next page. It’s the “Table of Contents” page.

8. You won’t need to change anything on this page unless your entries on the Resume/CV page, the
Philosophy of Nursing Education page, etc extend beyond one page. In that case, you’ll simply
renumber the pages in the table of contents once you’ve finished including all documents into the e-
portfolio.
9. Scroll to the Resume/CV page.

10. In the section on the Resume/CV page, type or paste in your resume/cv. Do NOT delete the “Go back
to Table of Contents” link. In my example e-portfolio, my resume/cv is over 6 pages long, so I’ll need
to change the page numbers in the Table of Contents once everything has been included in the e-
portfolio.
11. Scroll to the “Philosophy of Nursing Education” page.

12. In the section on the Philosophy page, type or paste in your Philosophy of Nursing Education. Do NOT
delete the “Go back to Table of Contents” link. Once you’ve finished, scroll to the page called
“Competency 1 – Facilitate Learning”. There are two pages with this title, one page per Example.
Throughout the document, the pattern remains the same for all competencies. Throughout the document,
upload two examples/artifacts per competency. Make sure that you include one example/artifact on each
competency’s Example 1 page, and one example/artifact on each competency’s Example 2 page.
Types of Examples/Artifacts

There are several different types of examples/artifacts you can choose from: Word documents, PowerPoints,
Websites you’ve created, etc. If your example/artifact is a short paper, copy and paste the short paper into the
correct area of your e-portfolio.
However, if your example/artifact is a long paper, follow these steps:
1. Include a summary of your paper (the topic of the paper and key points)
2. Then, upload your paper to your Office 365 OneDrive and get the link to your paper.
3. To access your OneDrive:
a. Log into your Office 365 Email through JSU
b. Click on the Apps button:

c. Click on the OneDrive Icon and it will open.

d. Click on Upload, then Files.

e. Find your uploaded document, and double-click on it to open it. Once the document opens, on
that document, click on the Share link.
f. The Share Apps box will open. Select “Get a Link.” Click on the down arrow in the top box, and
select “View link – no sign-in required.” Once you do, a new hyperlink will be generated in the
second box. Copy that hyperlink—it is a link to your document. You will now paste the link into
your e-portfolio document.

g. Go to your e-portfolio document, and go to the page in which you wish to include the link. Once
there, type the title of your document.

h. Take your mouse, and highlight your typed title. On the menu at the top of the document, click
“Insert,” then “Hyperlink.”
i. Right-click inside the “Address” box and paste in the hyperlink to your document. Then click
“Ok.”

j. You have now included a link to your document.

PowerPoints
If you have a PowerPoint, follow the instructions above as it pertains to uploading it to your OneDrive, creating
a shared hyperlink, and then linking it in your e-portfolio. However, you can also include a few slides directly
into the portfolio as well as sample slides. Include no more than 5 slides. Choose five slides that best represent
the content of your PowerPoint presentation.
In order to choose specific slides, you must first save your PowerPoint as a series of images. To do so, use the
following steps:
1. Open up your PowerPoint Presentation.
2. Click on File, then Save As.
3. In your format list, scroll down and select PNG (Portable Network Graphics Format)

4. Select the Save button. It may give you a prompt. If it does, select “All Slides.”

5. It will then tell you where your images have been saved. Make note of where they are saved. Mine have
been saved in My Documents in a folder called “Finding Your Voice Web.png”. Click OK, and then go
find your saved images.

6. Here’s the folder of my PPT images.

7. Double-click your folder to open it. Once you open it, you will see all of your PPT slides displayed as
images.

8. Go to the page in your E-Portfolio document where you wish to include your PPT images.
9. Before you begin to insert images, create a table first. You will place your PPT slide images into
individual cells in your table.
10. In the menu at the top, click on Insert, then Table. Create a table that has 2 columns and 3 rows.

See example table below.

11. Now, click inside the first cell of the table. Then, in the Menu at the top, click on Insert, then Pictures.
Find your ppt images. In the image below, again note that I have navigated to my images in My
Documents, through a folder called “Finding Your Voice Web.”
12. Begin inserting your PPT images into your table. You will need to resize your images as you insert
them. To re-size your image, click on the corner of your image and drag your mouse upwards and
diagonally to the left.

13. Continue those instructions until you have filled your table with PPT images. See completed table
below.
Key Issues to Remember
1. If your example/artifact is a short paper, copy and paste the entire paper and reference page into the e-
portfolio document.
2. If your example/artifact is a long paper, provide a summary the paper (the topic, key points) and then
include a hyperlinked document to the complete document stored in your Microsoft OneDrive.
3. If your example/artifact is a PPT, include sample images of it inside your e-portfolio and include a
hyperlinked PPT to the complete PPT stored in your Microsoft OneDrive.
4. If your example/artifact is web-based or a video, hyperlink the web-based example or video inside your
e-portfolio.
5. Once you have included all examples/artifacts and documents inside your e-portfolio, re-number your
table of contents to reflect your changed pages in the e-portfolio.
