2. Overview
MotionX-GPS Drive is a complete GPS navigation solution designed and optimized
exclusively for the iPhone. MotionX helps you find what you’re looking for and provides
turn-by-turn directions with optional Live Voice Guidance using industry-leading maps.
All the functionality of an advanced dedicated turn-by-turn GPS unit is presented in
this intuitive iPhone application. MotionX-GPS Drive takes full advantage of iOS 4 with
support for multitasking. Routing and live voice guidance instructions continue in the
background while listening to streaming music or using other applications.

The buttons highlighted below are accessible throughout the entire user interface.

GPS requires a direct “line-of-sight” to communicate with satellites. Your iPhone

must have a clear view of the sky to locate at least three satellites in order to
give accurate position information. If you are indoors, in a wooded area or
surrounded by buildings, you may be unable to acquire an accurate signal. The
GPS signal strength will be enhanced when your iPhone is connected to a power
source.

Get Directions with Live Voice Guidance (guidance package req’d)

Get Directions with Live Voice Guidance plots a route on a map and uses your
GPS signal to track your progress along that route. As you approach the next
maneuver, you will hear a voice prompt telling you what to do (e.g. “Now
turn left”). Select this option if you are ready to begin navigating and you
want to initiate turn-by-turn voice guidance as you drive or walk. A Live Voice
Guidance package is required for this option.

Simulate Trip Automatically

Select the Simulate Trip Automatically option to run an uninterrupted
simulation of your route from your current location. This option is useful to
provide a preview of your trip and to pre-cache map tiles along your route.1

Simulate Trip Step-by-Step

Select the Simulate Trip Step-by-Step option to see a list of maneuvers
plotted on the map. Use the vertical arrows on the left side of the map page
to skip forward and back manually through each of the maneuvers. A Live
Voice Guidance package is *not* required for this option. When navigating
with Simulate Trip Step-by-Step, Avoid Freeways and Avoid Toll Roads are
not options and will be disregarded when your route is calculated.

1
Download & cache map tiles along a specific route to retain map access where
a network connection is not available. Run a simulation using Simulate Trip
Automatically before you start your trip. Cache up to 2 GB, configurable in

Driving & Traffic Options

Driving options control how a driving route is calculated; they do not affect walking
directions. Choose from fastest route, shortest route, avoid freeways, or avoid toll
roads. MotionX-GPS Drive can also optionally use traffic data to calculate a better route
(based on TrafficCast Dynaflow™ 2.0, which uses multiple traffic data sources with a
predictive model to route according to known traffic patterns and live traffic
information).

Voice & Sound

• Turn voice guidance ON to keep you informed without taking your eyes off the road.
• Optional button click sound effects.
• Either pause the iPod during voice guidance instructions, or fade the iPod audio into
the background with spoken directions announced on top (default setting).
• Set the voice guidance to a desirable level (relative to your music) using the volume
slider labeled Voice Guidance Volume. This will not affect the volume of your music or
application sound effects.
• Set the Master Audio Setting to a desirable level using the slider control. If your
iPhone’s Bluetooth is turned on, you can use your Bluetooth-enabled device/system
to control the master audio (visible only when a stereo Bluetooth system is
detected).
