Abstract

This refrigeration unit experiment was conducted to accomplish certain objective in

thermodynamic fundamental. The main objective is to determine the power input, heat output
and coefficient of performance of the mechanical heat pump. The other objective is to show
the production of heat pump performance curves over a range of temperature and pressure.
Other than that, this also comply with energy balance study of thermodynamic through the
production of vapor compression cycle on pH diagram. It also related to the compression
ratio and the volumetric efficiency of the process. The process cycle of the system must have
recorded in the enthalpy diagram. The experiment start by doing the general start-up. Connect
the water source and power up the power supply, main switch at control panel and switch on
the refrigerant compressor. The maximum water flowrate could supply is around 60 percent
from 5 LPM flowrate. Experiment 1, 3 and 5 use 40% reading of water flowrate throughout
the process to achieve objective while experiment 2 and 4 varies the water flowrate from 10%
to 60%. The result shows the acceptable value for the study. Some of experiment show an
unexpected result if compared with the theory.

The objectives of this experiment are to determine the power input, heat output and
coefficient of performance of a vapour compression heat pump system.

ii. Experiment 2

The objective of this experiment is to produce the performance of heat pump over a range of
source and delivery temperatures.

iii. Experiment 3

The experiment is to produce a vapor compression cycle on p-h diagram and energy balance
study.

iv. Experiment 4

The experiment is to produce the heat pump performance curves over a range of evaporating
and condensation temperature.

v. Experiment 5

The objective of this experiment is to estimate the effect of compressor pressure ratio on
volumetric efficiency.
