Two Paths to NETS•T Certification

With James Madison Partners for Education, larners can follow two parallel paths to NETS•T Certification, according to their mastery of the
requisite NETS•T skills, Instructor-led  NETS•T  Certification (JMPE 301) and Self-PacedNETS•T  Certification  (JMPE 201).

   Instructor-led NETS•T Certification (JMPE 101)

The Instructor-led NETS•T Certification is designed for educators with basic and intermediate educational technology skills .

Course Description 

 This facilitated, 15-week online course provides a step-by-step consideration of each NETS•T rubric, highlights the skills needed to
master each rubric and focuses on the creation of an Individual Professional Development Plan that guides the acquisition of
educational technology skills. The course also provides tips on the types of teaching artifacts required to build a digital portfolio,
and instructions for writing reflections. 

 Within a virtual community of practice, learners develop methods and strategies for the effective integration of technology to
support instruction; design learner-centered, technology-enhanced learning activities for use in the classroom; and apply tools
and techniques for assessing student learning.

 Building your NETS•T Portfolio: Learners create a digital portfolio of teaching artifacts to demonstrate mastery of each rubric of
the NETS•T standards. The key components of the portfolio are the Personal Development Plan, Lesson Plans, and a Clasroom
Management Plan. The artifacts are submitted weekly. If more time is needed, learners can take up to 1 year to complete their
portfolio.

 To obtain NETS•T Certification learners must obtain MEETS rating for all rubrics within one year from enrollment.

Additional Information
The course is offered at regular intervals during the academic year and facilitated by Certified NETS•T Evaluators approved by James Madison
University. 

 Graduate Credit: 3 credits from James Madison University may be obtained for an additional fee upon completion of the
certificate.

 Self-Paced NETS•T Certification (JMPE 201)

Self-Paced NETS•T Certification is designed for veteran tech-savvy educators who can demonstrate experience in instructional technology, but
need guidance only in assembling their digital portfolios. These individuals master the NETS•T skills and may already have suitable artifacts
as a result of their EdTech experience.

NETS•T ALIGNMENT: Meets I.A., I.B., II.A., II.B., II.C., II.D., II.E., III.A., III.B., III.C., III.D., IV.A., IV.B., IV.C., V.A., V.B.,
V.C., V.D., VI.A., VI.B., VI.C., VI.D., VI.E

Course Description 

 Building your NETS•T Portfolio: Learners create a digital portfolio of teaching artifacts to demonstrate mastery of each rubric of

Management Plan. Submission of artifacts is self-paced, and learners can take up to 1 year to complete their portfolio. 

 A dedicated Certified NETS•T Evaluator provides 1-to-1 online live mentoring and evaluates submissions. Learners participate in a
Virtual Community of Practice

 To obtain NETS•T Certification learners must obtain MEETS rating for all rubrics within one year from enrollment.

Learners can begin anytime and during the academic year and facilitated by Certified NETS•T Evaluators approved by James Madison
University.
