CHARACTER FROM THE NOVEL MOBY DICK BY HERMAN

MELVILLE

Ishmael –
My favourite main character is Ismael, the narrator of the
story in the Novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville. He is a
new member of the crew of the whaling ship, Pequod.
Ishmael doesn’t play a major role in the events of the novel,
he is much of a story teller of the events that happened. His
explanation is detailed especially about the crews, on whales
and whaling. I like Ishmael because is is a fast learner.
Ishmael is shown as a person who is eager to know more
about whaling. Before Ishmael meets Queequeg, he is
frightened of the strange harpooner. When Ishmael
eventually sees Queequeg, the man’s tattooed body and
racial difference terrify him. But after just one night, all
Ishmael’s opinions change, and he became a close friend to
Queequeg. So we have learned that Ishmael doesn’t know
everything and Queequeg becomes his mentor in whaling.
Here we learned that we cannot judge a person from the
appearance. As we explore the world and go places, we will
meet people of different appearance and culture. We need
to learn from one another and learn to accept the
differences.
