QUALITY SURVEY OF RETAIL AUTOMOTIVE PETROL FUEL ON

ROMANIAN MARKET
Submitted 2 May 2014
Abstract. A petrol fuel quality survey from 48 retail stations belonging to the first top four oil
companies present on Romanian market was performed, being investigated chemical composition
(saturates, aromatics, olefins, alcohols, ethers, oxygen content), density, antiknock resistance,
distillation profile and vapour pressure, and compared with the limits from EU Directives and
Romanian automotive petrol standard. The results were interpreted in terms of conformity with
standards, impact on engine performance and on environment, being also analysed the risk of
contamination. Besides the scientific analysis, the study aims to contribute to a more appropriate
public perception upon petrol quality commercialized in Romania.
