Example Students’ Comments on teaching (for the first three years with TAMUQ)

• I think the most important aspect of Dr. Salem's teaching is that he thoroughly enjoys the
subject that he teaches. He is always open to discussions and providing students with real-
life/industry examples that we will be able to take with us once we graduate and use them in
our places of work.
• He made me very interested in the geophysical aspect of petroleum engineering.
• Good class stimulation
• It was an interesting course. I actually enjoyed it so much (GEOP 413).
• We had very good lectures. The instructor slides made it better to study. Good and explained.
Everything was good.
• He explains from the basics so that we understand everything.
• This was my all-time favorite math class. It was one for the first times I learned in class from
the professor. You made the material fun because you are a funny man. The pace was slow
enough for me to understand the topics and actually know what I am doing rather than just
memorize steps. I found the structure of the homework VERY effective. After completing
homework, I fully understood the material; this is not always the case for other classes. I like
the way the homework had us solve 1 problem with all the different methods so we can see
the difference, it was also very good practice (PETE 301).
• Surprise quizzes and homework quizzes were very effective ways to keep us up to date with
the material covered.
• The professor used computer and graphing to help us understand the material.
• We (students) relied most on the professor notes. Matlab is very good for understanding and
applying formulae.
• Using Excel and Matlab help to see and apply the subject.
• Dr. Salem was very helpful in trying to help us out if we did not understand.
• Very considerate of students' needs.
• Review sessions were helpful.
• During sessions, the instructor makes sure students understand everything.
• He was very willing to help us learn and he was open to any questions we had at any time.
• The instructor was really helpful and friendly. He makes sure that all students understand the
material of the course. He was available during office hours.

• His door is always open and he is always willing to sit and talk with you about the subject

• I found that this teacher cared if the students learned the subject or not. He would assist
