Cognitive Development
At the end of the semester (Condition), children who are at 60-72 months of age (Audience) describe at least
90 percent (Degree) the newness which they think by using their background knowledge and own creativity
(Behaviour).
Social- Emotional Development
At the end of the activity (Condition), children who are at 60-72 months of age (Audience) explain at least 90
percent (Degree) of what their rights as a citizen (Behaviour).

box, cover, color cards (blue, yellow, red), a Turkish flag, photos of Ataturk’s newness (clothes, right to vote

In this activity, children join a voting activity as a citizen in the classroom and watch a video from Goanimate
website to be aware of Atatürk’s newness and create their own newness to want from Atatürk.
Individual Learning Activities Children create their own newness individually.

Group Learning Activities They vote for their candidate friends as a group.

Summary
The teacher hangs a Turkish flag on the wall in the classroom and she says “I hung a flag on the wall because
there is a feast in a few days later and it will be celebrated with great enthusiasm. Do you have any idea about
this feast?” Children try to estimate it. After their predictions are taken, teacher tells that it is the Republic
Feast. Then, teacher asks children what they know about Ataturk. It is talked about Atatürk, republic and
newness. The teacher says, “Ataturk is a great and intelligent manager. He declared the republic and brought
many newnesses with the republic.” She explains that the Republican is that people who live in a country elect
by voting the person who will direct that country. After that, she tells, “Now, we will also choose our president
of the classroom who is responsible for administration of the classroom like the silence of the class,
organization of the friends etc. so we need three volunteer students. Who want to be volunteer? ” If there is
more than three volunteers, teacher distributes some cards which three of them are signed by teacher before
for volunteer children and it is chosen children who take these signed cards and teacher emphasizes that this is
a just game to learn more efficiently for you. Therefore, just join the voting and enjoy by learning. Then, three
volunteers are chosen from the children and blue, yellow and red cards are prepared for these students.
Teacher brings a box and cover for children to vote. It is said that children will throw the card, which is friend’s
color who wants to be president of the classroom into the box, and they should not tell other friends what color
they want. It is expressed that is a secret voting. After the voting, the class manager is determined by the
number of color card in the box. It is said that this was the election and it is one of the newness, which is
brought by Atatürk. It is said that he brought many newnesses besides this newness and then a video which is
prepared with Goanimate website are shown that reflect on Atatürk's newnesses and let children think about
them (alphabet, clothes, voting, and surname). Afterwards, children’s ideas are asked individually. It is learned
that what they think about these newnesses. Then, teacher gives pictures that a child talks with Atatürk and
wants children to draw themselves on a paper and glue it on this picture. After the children had drawn and
glued themselves near of Ataturk, ıt is asked that if they had been chatting with Atatürk, what other novelties
would they want from him? Teacher also wants them to draw their requests on the paper. After that, the
children describe the newnesses which they want to Atatürk in the pictures they have drawn. Then, they are
passed to the assessment part.
