GENERAL DESCRIPTION The BARFIELD INC. DPS350 Pitot-Static Tester is a sophisticated programmable Microprocessor based unit using SMT (Surface Mount Technology), and the latest in transducer technology. Operation is sinvlar to Barfield Inc. 1611 series testers but the transducer technology used is virtually immune to the costly repairs generally experienced by analog instruments Software containing a programmable protection limit feature has been incorporated into the DPS350 design to insulate the aircrait instruments from possible damage caused by negative airspeed and over pressurization conditions. The limit protection tnp points are user cr operator programmed using the LCD menu driven displays system. Limit protection is provided by computer actuated solenoid valves that safeguard aircratt alti tude, airspeed, rate of climbidecent and mach instruments. The DPS350 Pitot Static Test Set provides a very accurate and convenient method of performing leak testing of aircraft pitot-static systems; including air data computers and airspeed, altimeter, mach, vertical speed, engine pressure ratio, nd manifold pressure indicators, The DPS350 Digital Pitot Static Test Set meets the demanding RVSM accursey requirement cf 0.003 inHg and compliance requirements of 91.171 Note: tis important that the customer be sure the use of the Test Set is in compliance with other aspects cf the regulations. This Test Set also fully meets the requirements for DOT Advisory Circular 43-2038 for performing Altimeter and Static System Tests and Inspections. The DPS350 Test Set PIN 101-1170 has one-year Recertification requirement. It is important that the customer be sure the is in compliance with the Recertification requirement. PRESSURE / VACUUM REQUIREMENTS The DPS360 internal pressure pump is capable of producing 650 Knots, and the vacuum pump ‘can produce 55K ft. in systems wth high volumes 2 CONTROL VALVE OPERATION With the CROSSBLEED CONTROL. PITOT and STATIC VENT valves closed, the PITOT CONTROL needle valve wil admt pressure from the tank into the system and cause @ reaction in both the tester airspeed display and the instrument being tested through the, pitot connection. The OPS350 STATIC CONTROL valve similarly controls the vacuum system of the tester. The two VENT valves equalize their respective systems with atmosphere pressure The GROSSBLEED CONTROL valve cortros the pressure difference in tha pressure and vacuum lines of the tester. By operating the appropriate valve, ccntrollabie-preseure can be established in the Pitot (pressure) andor Static (vacuum) Ines. These pressures appear as readings on the DPS350 Altitude, Airspeed, ROC and Mach cispizys. The high accuracy and stability of the DPS350 transducers allows a technician fo test an aircraft's Ptot end Static system without the need for correction cards and allows for a one year recertification cycle 3, POWER SUPPLY CIRCUITS ‘The DPS350 can be powered from 115/230 VAC @ 47-400 Hz. The internal power supply automatically detects input voltage applied of 115 or 230 VAC. 4, PROTECTION CIRCUITS ‘The aircraft systems are protected against excessive rates and pressures by several fail safe solenoid and check valves. Solenoid valve actuation 's controlled by progremmable limits set by the operator on the control panel. When the actual airspeed, altitude, or VSI approaches the protection limit programmed by the operator, an asterisk “** will appear next to the affected parameter on the display, waming the operator that a limit is about to be exceeded. if mo corrective action is taken, and the limit is Teached, the appropriate solenoid valve(s) (see table 1) will actuate and isclate the arcrat systems from the tester vacuuTvpressure sources. The warming asterisks will change from a single “*" to a double "**” asterisks to indicate protaction limits have been reached, and the message "Limit(s) Exceeded Fé: -Reset-" will be displayed * The negative airspeed and negative altitude protection limits ere not progremmable by the operator but are factory set to -30 Kis anc —1,800 Ft respectively. When any of these two mts are exceeded, two asterisks will immediately appear next to the exceeded parameter and the protection circults will trip. Anegative airspeed ‘rip will be indicated by an airspeed reading of 0 Kis with two asterisks. 5€-101-01170-8 THEORY 1-3 Page 1 March 5, 1999 The following table is @ summary of the Imit protection solenoid valves operation, Programmed Limit Exceeded Single asterisk" Warming Deviation from Programmed Limit Solenoid Valve(s) Actuated Wher “asterisks are displayed indicating prograrered limits exceeded Normal Operation, No Limit Exceeded No "*" asterisk displayed ‘Open: SVT, SVS, SVA, SVE Closed SV2 ata dated mcent for Negatve Airspeed Protection) Altitude 000 Ft, 350 M Closed SV1 _Open. The user should become familiar with the DPS350 as described in the earlier chapters/soctions before connecting to an aircraft system or instruments and performing any tests, The test procedures described herein are not in lieu of any specifications to the contrary by either the airframe or instrument manufacturer. Particular attention should be addrecsed 10 the following preliminary procedures to avoid erroneous test results, and to avoid the danger of damaging any of the aircraft or Test Set instruments CAUTION: Do not use unnecessary force to adjust any test sot valve. Positive stop spacers have been installed on all metering valves to permit firm closing of the valves without damage. However, excessive force can overcome the knob set screw resulting in valve damage, Each test set is completely calibrated and tested before shipment; however, to ‘ensure the integrity of the tests, the 05380 should be leak checked before each use. (Please refer to Tester Leak Checks in section 1-4, page 22). NOTE: The quick connect ports on the test set and mating hoses are color coded and keyed to help prevent accidental crossing of Pitot and Static hoses. NOTE: The DPS250 is equipped with an easy to use Menu Driven LCD Display that the user should become familiar with, Please be aware that display pictures shown in this manual are shown only as a reference!, Actual displays on Test Set may be slightly different depending on the latest software revision, and opsrstional software upgrades done overtime. It is imperative that the PITOT VENT and STATIC VENT valves be fully openod and the PITOT CONTROL and STATIC CONTROL valves be fully closed before tuming power ON to prevent the auto-zero error correcting circuits from malfunctoning. Wait until tho initializing is finished before opening or closing any valves.
