BENEFITS OF
METALARC BALLASTS
REGULATION Meets A.S.A. minimum re-
quirements for regulation aL -+10/6 line volts.

ISOLATION The circuit used is of the auto-

transformer type. Normal precautions should be
taken to keep socket shell at ground potential.

CONSTRUCTION All Sylvania Mercury Bal-

lasts utiiize flexi-core construction. Flexi-core
Ballasts feature lighter weight and quiet cool
operation. The unique welded construction prac-
tically eliminates failures from vibration and
provides more efficient coil design. This means
greater reliability and longer life installations.

LOW START CURRENT The SYlvania

flexi-core current design keeps starting current
within a prescribed range during the warmup
period. Primary starting current is never allowed

to exceed primary operating current. This type
of circuit does away with time delay relays, over-
size circuit breakers, and the larger gauge wiring
necessitated by high reactance type ballasts. This
type of bailast allows the use of a greater number

OPEN AND SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTEC-
TION Occurrence of an open or short-circuit
condition in the lamp circuit produces correspond-
ing drop in primary current. This provides posi-
tive circuit protection.

UNDERWRITERS APPROVAL Items

F48-8I259 and F47-8I282 are UL approved. The
remaining types are pending approval.

RECTIFICATION By providing a capacitor

in series with the lamp, the possibility of ballast
destruction when operated on a rectifying lamp
is eliminated.
