Direct Speech- used to quote the exact words spoken.

In direct speech, we convey the message of the speaker in his own actual words
without any changes to another person.

Examples:

1. Mario said, "I didn't know you had so much faith in me."

2.John told Gloria, "I lost my job a week ago."

Reported Speech - is used to talk about the past.

In reported speech, we convey the message of the speaker in our own words to another
person.

Examples:

1. He said that the food was terrible.

says.

 Verbs that can be used to introduce direct speech include says, said, and told.

 Open and close quotation marks are also used to enclose the exact words of the
speaker.

 In writing a reported speech, use the past tense of the verb to indicate past
