* This Technical Bulletin is applicable to ARIETTA 70/70a, ARIETTA S70/S70a and ARIETTA
V70/V70a.
SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED:
All systems running on software version ver.4.0.1 and lower (including updated machines).
PURPOSE:
This is to provide the information of software update of Ver.4.1.0. Please refer to the Newsletter for
the changes and improvements on the software ver.4.1.0.
For the solved problems, refer to the “History of Problems on ARIETTA 70” that is attached to this
technical bulletin.
 Support of EU-9190B (Battery unit) for sleep mode
The optional Battery unit: EU-9190B is added from the system ver.4.1.0 for keeping “sleep
mode” of the system after unplugging the equipment from the mains. Please refer the
Newsletter for more details about the changes and improvements on the software ver.4.1.0 and
the installation of EU-9190B on ARIETTA 70 lower than Ver.4.0.0.
When you transport ARIETTA 70 with this unit installed, you are asked to disconnect the plug
at J850. Please secure the battery cable (With tape etc.) for avoiding to touch the metallic part.
It doesn’t require removing EU-9190B itself.

Since the software update is “self-extracting” archive file with an update tool, you need to
uncompress the archive and extract the files, then create Update DVD and USB memory stick with
using this tool. For more details, please refer to the section “SOFTWARE UPDATE” in this
document.
SPECIAL TOOLS AND TEST EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

 Microsoft Windows PC with CD/DVD drive,
DVD-R writing software is installed, available hard disk space is 2Gbytes or more,
virus protection software with the latest virus definition file is installed and the latest OS
updates/patches are applied.
In addition, “.NET Framework 4.5” supplied by Microsoft must first be installed on your PC to
use the tools.
 Portable USB DVD drive (Pioneer, DVR-XD10 is recommended)
 DVD-R disk (Blank), 1 disk
 USB memory stick (capacity is more than 1GBbytes)
Virus scan is applied with Virus protection software with latest virus definition file.

There are sales upgrade kits other than this service-pack that updates for Ver.4.1.0. When sales
update kit is used, it is different from the conventional update procedure. The sales upgrade kits
should be applied after updating with service pack. The update step is summarized as following.

1. Creation of update DVD disk
Create the update DVD disk referring to this and following pages.

(4) After clicking [Start…] button, the confirmation

message like a picture shown right appears.
Click [Yes] button when you go further. SP-AR70-S410
(5) Tool will merge downloaded split files, and

decompresses merged file automatically. After
this process is completed, click [OK] button on SP-AR70-S410,
the message like a picture shown right.
(6) To close the tool, click [Close] button.

1.2 Confirm created files

(1) After closing the tool, please confirm SP-AR70-S410
that downloaded split files (file

extensions are .001 ~ .007) and other SP-AR70-S410 SP-AR70-S410
unnecessary files are deleted

automatically and created sub-folder

(2) With this service pack, there is a file

this sub-folder.

(3) When you need to confirm that the file is not corrupted, please use following MD5 or SHA-
1 hash on a file.

(4) The created file named “SP-AR70-S410.iso“ at step (2) is ISO 9660 image file. The ISO
9660 file is a disk image file and all information such as files and folders to be created on DVD
are contained in this image file.
You can burn this image file onto a DVD-R media by CD/DVD writing software (If your PC is
running on Windows 7, you can use “Windows Disc Image Burner” to write the image file).
Following example shows that burning a DVD with “Windows Disc Image Burner”. If you have
other CD/DVD writing software, use a similar function of “Burn ISO image file” in your writing
software.
Insert blank DVD-R media to the CD/DVD drive on your PC.

Right-click on the disk image file

select [Burn disk image] from

pop-up menu.
If there is no selection of this from
pop-up menu, you will find
[Windows Disk image Burner]
in the [Open with…] menu.
When the window like a picture shown right appears,

select DVD drive for burning, put the check mark on 
Verify disc after burning, and then click on the SP-AR70-S410.iso

To start burning the disc image, click Burn.

After the writing process is completed, Verifying for the

After the whole process is completed, burned DVD-R media

is ejected automatically and then shows the message “The
SP-AR70-S410.iso
disc image has been successfully burned to disc.” in status
DVD-R Drive (E:)

To close this tool, click on the [Close] button.
(5) With the steps described above, one update

DVD has been created.
Please confirm that a disk is in the good
SP-AR70-S410-USB
condition by using Windows Explorer on your File folder File folder
PC. The right picture shows the contents of

SP-AR70-S410.
After the confirmation of that the DVD has no
problem, put the indication on the DVD like a
picture shown right. Do not put it on the
DVD’s recording surface.
You can use this created DVD for multiple ver.4.1.0 ARIETTA 70
update work. Ver.4.1.0 update

2. Creation of USB memory stick for this update

Create the update USB memory stick referring to this and following pages.
CAUTION
Change the “View” setting in “Folder Option” of Windows Explorer on your PC as

following.
 Select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”
 Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”
(1) The update DVD is put in the DVD drive on

your PC.
Then, open the folder, “SP-AR70-S410-USB”.

(2) Connect the USB memory stick that you use
for update to the PC then, double click
ADAM.exe in this folder to execute the tool.

(3) After the completion of uncompressing, the tool

shown right appears.
Select the USB memory stick that you connect in the
drop-down list of “Destination” (In this example, it
is K: drive).
If the [Create] button does not become active and a
message “ERROR: USB memory not found!” is
appearing, No USB memory stick is connected on
your PC. Connect it and then click on the [Reload]
button.
Also, Make sure that “ARIETTA70 Ver.4.1.0” is

selected in the drop-down list of “Instrument”.
(4) After clicking on the [Create] button, the

confirmation message like a picture shown
right appears.
Click on the [Yes] button to go further.

(5) The tool asks you whether the USB

memory stick can be formatted.
Make sure that all files in the USB
memory stick can be deleted then, click
on the [Yes] button.
Although you can cancel the “Media
Format” by clicking on the [No] button,
it is not recommended using an
unformatted USB stick for disk creation.
(6) The tool automatically starts the format program for the USB
Memory stick.
Please just click on the [Start] button without changing the
format conditions. The confirmation message will be appeared
again then, click on the [Yes] button to continue.
When you use the formatted USB memory stick, you may
check on [Quick Format] in “Format options” frame to make
the formatting process shorter.
After the format process is completed, the message “Format
Complete.” appears. Click on the [OK] button on this
window then, click on the [Close] button on format program
window.
(7) The tool will copy the necessary files into the USB
memory stick, and verify if the files are correctly copied
and then, shows the message “All Disks were successfully
created”.

clicking on the [OK] button. Then click on the
[Cancel] button to close the tool.

If you use Windows7 and the screen

like a picture shown right appears,
click “This program installed

3. Checking the machine information

Make a note of the machine ID and the serial number of the machine that you will update the software.
(1) Press [PROBE] switch on the operation panel.
(2) Select [Preset Setup] button on touch-panel.
Note: Below (3) ~ (5) steps are possible to be performed also by the full-keyboard,
when Optional alphanumeric keyboard(EU-9165) is installed to the system.
(3) Press [CTRL] on touch-panel to make it selected, and then press [S] key on touch-panel.
(4) Move the cursor to Password entry field by trackball and press [ENTER] switch on the operation
panel, and then press [CTRL] on touch-panel to unselect it.
(5) Type “ moani ” by the Virtual keyboard on touch panel into Password entry field.
(6) At the [Setup] screen displayed on the LCD monitor, take a note of the information below.
 Eight (8) digits of characters in the "Serial No:" box (It is 203D7249 as shown in the photo
below in this example).
 Nine (9) digits of numbers in the "Machine ID:" box (It is 110001720 as shown in the
photo below in this example).

(7) Then click [Exit] at lower right of the screen to exit maintenance screen.

4. Getting a license key for this update

Get the license key for this software update, based on the machine information that is taken at the previous
step and the unique number of this update (It is described in the later part of this procedure).
The license key is provided from the web site: "Licensing Center" that is on the Internet. You will get a
license key by accessing to it and type the necessary information in the application form. It requires having
a user account for accessing to it because of the security reason.
Get the license key with following procedure.
(1) Run web browser on your PC, and then access following web address.
https://infoshare.hitachi-aloka.co.jp/infoshare/alc/
(2) The screen below appears when you have an access to the "Licensing Cernter". Fill in your user
account (Your e-mail address: yourname@domain) and passward then, click on the [Login]
button.
(3) Select “ARIETTA 70” at the “Step 0” block in this page. Then enter the "Instrument serial
number" and the "Machine ID" at the "Step 1" block referring the note that is taken at section “1.
Checking the machine information” (They are 203D7249 and 110001720 as shown in the
photo below in this example). The information is validated and when it is correct then, the
product name and the number of licensed software appear at (A) in the photo below (It is
"ARIETTA 70, 1 software(s) licensed" in this example).

(4) At the "Step 2" block in this page, enter 010923000010 for "Product ID" and 3597 for
"Check Code", and then click [Add] button.
Above product ID and check code is reusable and valid only for the ARIETTA70
Ver.4.1.0 update. When we release next software update, we will inform other
numbers for both. Based on the update software you want to use, Enter the proper
numbers at the “Step 2” block in this page.

The "End user name" and "End user address" are not essential but recommended to enter them
for your reference.
(5) The parts number of this update you are going to get the licese key appears as in the photo below.
If you wrongly selected the machine to apply this update, click [Return to Step 1] button and
then re-enter the product information.

(6) Make sure all information inputted at the Step-1 and -2 is correct then, click [Issue] button at
the "Step 3" to get the license key. If you checked on “ Send e-mail notification to
*******@******* as well”, the license key and related information will be sent to the login
user by e-mail.

(7) Click on the [OK] button when the window like a

picture shown right appears.
(8) The license key with thirty (30) characters will appear in the area of "License key issued: " at the
"Step 3" when it is issued successfully (See in the figure below). Then, take a note of the license
key.

(9) The machine is able to read the issued license information from the file in USB memory stick.
Click on the [XML] button at the top of the screen.
(10) Click on the [OK] button when the

message like a picture shown right appears.
Save the file ALC_*********.dat into your desktop or somewhere. You need to copy this file
to the folder ”ALC” on the USB memory stick that you use for update after you create it.

Caution
It is possible to place several license files for multiple machines in the same
“ALC” folders on the USB memory stick. However, DO NOT mix-up the license
files for both optional software and software update in this folder. Also, make
sure that all license files are in the folder “ALC”, and do not change the name of
license files.
(11) Click on the [Logout] button at the top of the screen, and then close web browser on your PC.

5. Updating the machine

 Check the operation of the machine well before updating and take the backup of
necessary preset data (DICOM Store/Send etc.).
 Connect Probe(s) to the machine during the update, otherwise an error will happen.
 Do not turn the machine off / Do not remove the USB stick during the accessing the
hard disk and/or USB stick.
 When you connect some USB device into the machine, Disconnect these before update
work.
 When the error message appears during software update, Perform troubleshoot referring
to the section “6. Troubleshooting”.
Update the software version with following instruction.

(1) Connect Probe(s) to the machine before booting-up the machine.
(2) Press [PROBE] switch on the operation panel.
(3) Select [Preset Setup] button on touch-panel.
Note: Below (4) ~ (7) steps are possible to be performed also by the full-keyboard,
when Optional alphanumeric keyboard(EU-9165) is installed to the system.
(4) Press [CTRL] on touch-panel to make it selected, and then press [S] key on touch-panel.
(5) Move the cursor to Password entry field by trackball and press [ENTER] switch on the operation
panel, and then press [CTRL] on touch-panel to unselect it.
(6) Type “ moani ” by the Virtual keyboard on touch panel into Password entry field.
(7) Connect DVD drive that update DVD is inserted in and USB memory prepared in previous step.
(8) Select [Upgrade] from the menu tree, then press [System Update] button by operating
trackball and [Enter] key.
(9) Press [Enter] key when the message on the right figure is
displayed.
(10) The system screen changes to right above, and then the
message shown at right bottom appears. Confirm that license
key for this update is correctly displayed on this window. Then
when you are ready, click on the [Update] button.
The updated license key can also be input by external full

keyboard or optional alphanumeric keyboard (EU-9165).
(11) The files in the USB memory stick are processed, copying
new version of programs, saving current software, and
converting the configuration file.

(12) When process is finished, the figure right is displayed. Then

click on the [Version Up] button to update the PRESET
database.
Click on the [Yes] button when the window like a picture

shown right appears.
If the update of the PRESET database isn’t necessary,

[Version Up] button is not active, so click on the [Close]
button.
It starts the upgrading of the PRESET database.
Click on the [OK] button when the

window as in the picture right appears.
(13) Following above, the update process for Java is

automatically started. Click on the [Install >]
button to continue the update process.
Note: If updated Java is already installed to the

system, message right bottom appears. Click
[Yes] button in this case.

When you get the message for completion of Java

update process, click on the [Close] button.
(14) Installation of Microsoft Visual C++2010 is

automatically started.
Check to the box of [I have read and accept
the license terms.] then, click [Install]
button.
Note:
When you update the system running on
Ver.3.0.* and higher, the message shown right
appears. Confirm [Repair Microsoft..] is
selected, then click [Next >] button.

(15) [Installation Is Complete] is displayed when

the installation is finished. Click [Finish]
button to close the window.
Note:
If you update the system running on Ver.3.0.*
and higher, [Repair Is Complete] is displayed.
Click [Finish] button to close the window.
(16) Click on the [OK] button when the window as

in the picture right appears.
(17) Following above, the update process for

Graphics Driver is automatically started.
Click on the [NEXT >] button.

(18) After completion of whole update

process, the message shown at right
appears. Click [Finish] button.
(19) Remove the USB memory stick and

then press [OK] button. The system
automatically shut down.

(20) When restarting the system, the firmware

update will take place.
Depending on the software version before
update, the indication of the firmware is
varied. Shut down the system manually
when the message “Please shutdown
the system” is displayed.
Please note that it doesn’t display all the
progress message of the update on the
main LCD monitor but it can be displayed
on the touch screen when you turn “ON”
the Maintenance Dip SW#1.
Because the condition of the graphic
driver is temporarily undefined due to the
updating. This will be corrected on the
next boot.

CAUTION
If shutdown didn’t start when you press Power key, wait for 4 minutes and press Power key
again. Or holding down the Power key with End Exam. key and Menu key 3 seconds at the
same time to activate force shutdown function.

(21) Restart the machine then the system automatically starts converting the user data depending
on the software version before update. During this process, the message “Store
VersionUp : ***/***” is displayed at the upper left corner of screen. After the conversion is
completed, the message disappears and then, ultrasound image is displayed on the monitor,
so DO NOT turn the system off during this message is displayed.
Please be careful, the progress indication becomes invisible when you push [Enter] or
[Undo] switch on the operation panel. Even in this case, DO NOT turn the system off
until the ultrasound image is displayed. This process may take up to an hour.

(22) After restarting the system, check the system version in the “SYSTEM1” page of the
maintenance menu that is shown as in the pictures below.

6. Setting confirmation after the update

6-1 About setting changed after update
(1) Reverse Depth Control: (Direction of [PAN ZOOM/DEPTH] key rotation and direction
of the displayed image size)
When machine is upgrade from Ver.1 to Ver.2 and higher, Reverse Depth Control is added on
“System Preset”, “General”, “Common 1” tab, Range Zoom Encoder, then default setting is
“ON”.
ON : Turn the [PAN ZOOM/DEPTH] key clockwise to reduce the displayed image.
Off : Turn the [PAN ZOOM/DEPTH] key clockwise to magnify the displayed image.
Please exclude the check and becomes “Off” if you need to keep the same setting before update.

(2) Pombo, Teichholz, Gibson on Cardio Preset : (When Cardiac Report is Normal)
When machine is upgrade from Ver.2 and lower to Ver.3 and higher, some setting of the
measurement of Cardio application is changed.

6-2 About the influence that added new function gives in images
The setting of some new functions affects image quality after updating from Ver.3.0.* and lower
to Ver.4.0.0 and higher. Please change setting as needed.
(1) Low Echo Reduction(B): (It compensates lower brightness of the B mode image)
Low Echo Reduction is added to “B1” tab on QSS, B1 MENU. In following Application, please
set the Low Echo Reduction to "0" if you need to keep the same setting before update.

(2) TGC Enhancement: (Optimization of the flow gain in the depth direction)
TGC Enhancement is added to “Common” tab on QSS, Color MENU. QSS Setting of “C”
(QSS Name: V/A) becomes “On” in Carotid Application after updating to Ver.4.0.0 and higher.
If you need to keep the same setting before update, please set the TGC Enhancement to "Off" or
adjust the Color Flow Gain.

(3) Color Depth: (Color is used front to back to enhance the sense of depth in 3D images)
Color Depth is added to “4D 2” tab on QSS, 3D/4D MENU. In following Application, default
setting of Color Depth is “ON”. Please set the Color Depth to "Off" if you need to keep the
same setting before update.

7. How to change the Language for message display

When you want to change [Language] after update, please change setting according to the following
procedures.
(1) Enter the maintenance menu.
(2) Select [Upgrade] from the menu tree, then press [Language Setting] button by trackball and
[Enter] key.
(3) When the Initial Configuration window is displayed, change the [Language] that you need.
(4) The system will be shut down automatically when the [Exit] is pressed.
(5) After restarting the system, check the [Language] in the “SYSTEM1” page on maintenance
menu that it is changed to the selected one.
8. Final operation check

After the update work, please perform the overall operation check including network
communication. In addition, make sure that the preset data, patient database and stored images are
the same as before update.

Perform troubleshoot referring to the table below when you encounter the difficulties during the
