ISO 20340:2003(E) ‘The purpose of Table 3 is to give a benchmark of the position of offshore paint technology at the time of publication of this International Standard, not to suggest a specific type of paint for use. It should be emphasized that the paint systems given in Table 3 are made up of diferent generic types of intermediate-coat paint and topcoat paint. They should therefore only be considered as typical examples. Table 3 is not intended to be comprehensive, nor is the intention that it be used as specification guidelines. Unless agreed otherwise, the surface profile of the test side of each panel shall correspond to “medium (G)" as defined in ISO 8503-1 and checked with a comparator using the method specified in ISO 8503-2. Other methods of surface preparation may be used to represent actual field conditions, as agreed between the interested parties. The test panels shall be dry and free of dust and any other foreign matter immediately prior to paint application. 8.1.3 Application and curing ‘The panels shall be coated and cured in strict accordance with the manufacturer's most recent written instructions. Protect the backs and edges of the test panels with an appropriate means of protection agreed on between the interested partes. 8.41.4 Dry flim thickness For each coat, prior to over-coating, measure the DFT on the test face of the panel in accordance with [SO 19840 at five locations (centre and each comer, 15 mm to 20 mm from the panel edge) and record these measurements as the minimum, mean and maximum (see Annex C, Clause C.1). The test conditions shall be agreed on between the interested parties or be in accordance with the paint ‘manufacturer's most recent instructions. 003 — Alig 14 8.4.7 Porosity detection In order to avoid premature failure, carry out a suitable test to detect the presence of any pinholes in the coatings, if agreed between the parties involved. If any pinholes are detected, the panels shall be replaced. 84.8 Scribe lines When specified in Table 4, two scribe lines shall be made in the paint coating (see Figure 1). Both shall cut completely through the paint coating and into the metal substrate, Both shall be 50 mm long and 20 mm from any edge. ‘Make seribe lines of two different types as indicated below. — 2mm-wide scribe line (see Figure 2), made mechanically (with a machine such as a drill press with ‘cobalt slot drils) or manually, paralle to the shorter edge (end) of the test pane! — 0,05-mm-wide scribe line (see Figure 3), made parallel to the longer edge (side) of the test panel in accordance with ISO 12944:1998, Annex A, using a single-blade cutting tool as described in ISO 2409:1992, 4.1.1.
