Advantages of ICICIDirect

1. 3-in-1 account integrates your banking, broking and demat accounts. All accounts are from
ICICI and very well integrated. This feature makes ICICI the most interesting player in online
trading facility. There is absolutely no manual interfere require. This is truly online trading
environment.
2. Unlike most of the online trading companies in India which require transferring money to the
broker's pool or towards deposits, at ICICIDirect you can manage your own demat and bank
accounts through ICICIdirect.com. Money from selling stock is available in ICICI bank
account as soon as the ICICIDirect receive it.
3. Investment online in IPOs, Mutual Funds, GOI Bonds, and Postal Savings Schemes all from
one website. General Insurance is also available from ICICI Lombard.

Disadvantages of ICICIDirect
1. Getting access to ICICIDirect.com website during market session can be frustrating.

4. Trading is available in both BSE and NSE.

Disadvantages of Angel Trade

1. Online money transfer from trading account to bank account is not available:

Trading account can be linked with popular private banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, UTI
bank etc. A trader can transfer money from his bank to the trading account online. But the
reverse transactions are not yet available online. .

This means money, a trader gets after selling shares doesn’t get credited in his bank account
directly. The trader has to call Angel Trade and request for the deposit. This takes couple of
working days. .

This way angel trade is kind of behind with ICICIDirect where 3 accounts (Bank account,
trading account and demat account) are connected so seamlessly that no manual interfere
requires. In ICICIDirect, a trader gets the money back into his ICICI Bank account as soon as
the trader settles down.

Brief Introduction - Online Stock Market Trading

STOCK EXCHANGE

Stocks (Shares, equity) are traded in stock exchange. India has two big stock exchanges
(Bombay Stock Exchange - BSE and National Stock Exchange - NSE) and few small
exchanges like Jaipur Stock Exchange etc.

Investor can trade stocks in any of the stock exchange in India.

Stock Broker

Investor requires a Stock Broker to buy and sell shares in stock exchanges (BSE, NSE etc.).
Stock Broker is registered member of stock exchange. A stock broker can register to one or
more stock exchanges.

Only stock brokers can directly buy and sell shares in Stock Market. An investor must
contact a stock broker to trade stocks. Broker charge commissions (brokerages) for their
service. Brokerage is usually a percent of total amount of trade and varies from broker to
broker.

Stock Trading

Traditionally stock trading is done through stock brokers, personally or through telephones.
As number of people trading in stock market increase enormously in last few years, some
issues like location constrains, busy phone lines, miss communication etc start growing in
stock broker offices. Information technology (Stock Market Software) helps stock brokers
in solving these problems with Online Stock Trading.

Online Stock Market Trading is an internet based stock trading facility. Investor can trade
shares through a website without any manual intervention from Stock Broker.

In this case these Online Stock Trading companies are stock broker for the investor . They
are registered with one or more Stock Exchanges. Mostly Online Trading Websites in India
trades in BSE and NSE.

There are two different type of trading environments available for online equity
trading.

1. Installable software based Stock Trading Terminals .

this trading environment requires software to be installed on investors computer. This

software are provided by the stock broker. These software require high speed internet
connection. These kind of trading terminals are used by high volume intra day equity traders.

Advantages:

• Orders directly send to stock exchanges rather then stock broker. This makes order
execution very fast.
• It provides almost each and every information which is required to a trader on a single
screen including stock market charts, live data, alerts, stock market news etc.

Disadvantages:

• Location constrain - You cannot trade if you are not on the computer where you have
installed trading terminal software.
• It requires high speed internet connection.
• These trading terminals are not easily available for low volume share traders.

2. Web (Internet) based trading application .

This kind of trading environment doesn't require any additional software installation. They are
like other internet websites which investor can access from around the world through normal
internet connection.

Below are few advantages and disadvantages of Online Stock Market Trading:-

Advantages of Online Stock Trading (Website based):

• Real time stock trading without calling or visiting broker's office.

• Display real time market watch, historical data, graphs etc.
• Investment in IPOs, Mutual Funds and Bonds.
• Check the trading history; demat account balance and bank account balance at any
time.
• Provide online tools like market watch, graphs and recommendations to do analysis of
stocks.
• Place offline orders for buying or selling stocks.
• Set alert to inform you certain activity on the stock through email or sms.
• Customer service through Email or Chat.
• Secure transactions.

Disadvantages of Online Stock Trading (Website based):

• Website performance - sometime the website is too slow or not enough user friendly.
• Little long learning curve especially for people who don’t know much about computer
and internet.
• Brokerages are little high.

RATIOS INVESTOR MUST LOOK FOR WHILE PURCHASING

SHARES OF A COMPANY

P/E RATIO:

This ratio helps in determining whether to invest in a particular stock or not and can be written as

= Market price per share/ Earning per share

P/ E ratio tells what market thinks of a stock. A high price earning ratio indicates the stock market
confidence in the company's future earning growth. A low P/E may indicate a “vote of new
confidence” by the market or it could mean that market has overlooked the stock.

PEG RATIO:
This ratio helps in determine the future earning growth of a particular stock and can be written as
= PE ratio / projected growth in earning
PEG ratio tells whether the particular stock has a capability to provide high returns in future . A stock
with low PEG ratio may be worth buying it.

EPS:
This ratio helps in determining the earning per share available and can be written as
= Profit after Tax/ No of Shares outstanding
EPS helps in comparing performance over time .

CAPM MODEL
It is a very useful model that helps in finding the relationship between risk and expected return that is
used in the pricing of securities.
Ke = Rf+B( Rm-Rf)
Where Rf = risk free rate of return
B= measure of systematic risk
Rm = expected market return
Ke = required rate of return

Low Beta stock and high Beta stock concept

Beta is a measure of volatility in a stock relative to the benchmark index .Higher the Beta ,sharper the
movement in the stocks that have a Beta of less than one are considered to be defensive while those with
Beta of more than one are labelled high Beta stocks .Traditionally consumer goods , pharmaceutical &
cement stocks are considered to be low Beta stocks while Real Estate , engineering and metal stocks
are considered high Beta stocks .
If a stock has a Beta of 0.6, it means that the stock will rise or fall 0.6%compared to a
1 % rise or fall in sensex. A stock with a Beta of 1.2 will rise or fall 1.2 % compared to 1%rise or fall in
the index.

SYSTEMATIC RISK
It is also referred as market risk, aggregate risk or undiversifiable risk. It is the risk associated with overall
aggregate market return. Systematic risk is the risk of security that can not be reduced by diversification.
Systematic risk of a stock represent that portion of its risk which is attributable to economy wide factors
like the growth rate of GNP, level of government spending, money supply, interest rate structure and
inflation rate. Since these factors affect all firms to a greater or lesser degree, investors can not avoid the
risk arising from them.

UNSYTEMATIC RISK
In contrast unsystematic risk is that company or industry specific risk that is inherent in each investment
one makes .The amount of Unsystematic risk present can be reduced by appropriate diversification.
Unsystematic risk of a security represents that portion of its total risk which stems from firm specific
factors like development of new product, a labour strike or the emergence of a new competitor.

Relationship between Risk and Return

• Securities are risky because their returns are variable.
• The risk of a security can be split into two parts Systematic and Unsystematic.
• Portfolio diversification washes away Unsystematic Risk but not systematic risk.
• The contribution of a security to the risk of fully diversified portfolio is measured by its
BETA, which reflects its sensitivity to general market conditions.

INVESTMENT APPLICATIONS:
• Diversification is important .Owning a portfolio dominated by small number o stocks is a
risky proposition.
• While Diversification is desirable, an excess of it is not. There is hardly any gain in extending
Diversification beyond 10 to 12 stocks.
• The performance of well diversified portfolio more or less mirrors the performance of market
as a whole.
• In a well -ordered market investors are compensated primarily for bearing Market risk, but
not Unique risk. To earn a higher expected rate of return, one has to bear higher degree of
market risk.
