Proposal for LGBTQ++ and SOGIE bill crash course to

UPLB students
I. RATIONALE

LGBTQ, which is used to mean all of the communities included in the

LGBTTTQQIAA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transexual Transpirit, Queer,
Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Ally, +Pansexual, +Agender, +Gender Queer, +Bigender,
+Gender Variant, +Pangender) is a defined grouping of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender that generally celebrates pride, diversity, individuality and sexuality. Some
sociologist see LGBT community-building as a counter-building to heterosexism,
homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, sexualism and conformist pressures that exist in the
larger society. Despite of the existence of this community, people who belong in this group
are still not equal of others. That is why, the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
or Expression) Equality Bill is pushed through. This bill, also known as Anti-Discrimination
Bill (ADB) is a proposed legislation of the Congress of the Philippines which is intended to
prevent various economic and public accomodation-related acts of discrimination against
people on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. With the bill passed, any
institution will not be able to refuse accreditation or formal recognition of any group based in
SOGIE. Also, denying of application for basic rights such as acquiring a professional license
or any other documents alike will be banned under the SOGIE Bill. Any acts of violation
regarding the bill will be fined Php100,000 to Php 500,000, and/or imprisonment of one to
six years.
We, students of NSTP2 AS-L6, want to raise awareness to UPLB students regarding
this very timely issue. We want to help those people who are confused with their sexuality so
that they will be able to know and identify theirselves better and be informed of their rights
as part of the LGBTQ commuinity.
