With this letter, I would like to express my interest on taking International Summer School In
Gajah Mada University.

I am currently graduated for bachelor degree programme in History Education at Indonesia

University of Education Bandung. Having looked through the materials of International
Summer School in Southeast Asian Studies, i was very delighted to find the opportunity to
spend two weeks learning Transnational History at Gajah Mada University which i have not
been experienced before. I have decided to apply for this programme because I am sure it
would strongly enrich my way of thinking and help me in my prospective career. Moreover I
consider this programme as a great opportunity to get in touch with local culture and
educational system at Gajah Mada University. Last but not least, i am very curious about
different approaches to the history in this theme at the gajah mada university.

I have chosen to apply at this programme because i really like its kind of method of teaching
because there will be not only introductory courses on the theories but what interest me the
most is there will be also filled with five field researches into communities and urban spaces
of Yogyakarta, including the Chinatown district of Ketandan, the Muslim district of Kauman
and communities of art, popular culture consumption and so forth. During my prior studies I
have found out, that I would like to specialize in Cultural History and Gajah Mada University
gives me a chance to get in touch with these subjects.

I would very much like to spend two weeks at the Gajah Mada University. This would give
me a chance to deepen my historical knowledge and also my historical thinking in the
inspiring, creative, and cosmopolite environment of one of the largest Indonesian universities.
Furthermore I could improve my English and increase my confidence in passing the TOEFL
examinations after I return. Moreover, I am confident that my experience in cultural region
like Yogyakarta would be extremely exciting, fun, and valuable for both my studies and
overall general development.
