possibly be dropped off around 5 minutes later than presently at the end of the
school day.
Children travelling on the Kamo bus will now depart school at the earlier time of
3:40 arriving in Kamo around 4:00pm (not 4:15 as presently).

All other pick and drop off times are as at present.

Parent / teacher interviews

As you all know interviews are scheduled for Monday & Tuesday next week – 2 & 3 July. Please help
the process along by …
… being on time and moving on the bell
… bringing with you any thoughts on their digital (see saw) portfolio
… noting down any questions or concerns beforehand
Please note that these interviews primarily exist for the sharing of achievement information. Please
also note that it is possible that a second teacher may sit in on one of your interviews. This does not
indicate a concern. Teachers are asked to sit in on at least one other interview for professional
development purposes. All matters discussed are kept confidential.

See saw … digital portfolios

Instructions on how to access Seesaw were sent home last week. If having problems accessing this
material please connect with your child’s teacher.

Y7 & 8 Science Fair Prize Giving …is scheduled for 6:30pm Tuesday 3 July. Children receiving
prizes will know in advance.

Calf Cub Day 2018

The board has made the difficult decision in light of concerns relating to the mycoplasma bovis virus
that calves will not be included in this year’s Calf Club Day. Similar decisions are being made in most
rural schools, we feel it is best to play safe. So we will expect an increase in the number of lambs &
goats this year, and look forward to meeting the pigs, chickens, turkeys, goldfish etc (but not dogs
please).

School Cross Country

Will be held early next term (date to be confirmed). If your child is serious about placing in the school
competition you might want to start them training over the holidays. First practice will be soon after
commencement of the new term – so come prepared with running shoes.

Confirmation of Secondary School – Year 8 students

… forms were sent home with year 8 students last week. Please return your form on Monday if you
have not already done so.

Lost property – More clothing than ever!

The mountain of lost property outside Room 11 is now huge. As usual the
classes/children have been taken past the items, but it might take a parent look to
find out where your child’s clothing / shoes are - there are still lots of expensive
brand name items! As usual, all unclaimed items at the end of term are donated to
charity.
If you have any spare coat hangers at home – any style appreciated – could you please send
them in to Room 11 (or the office) so they can hang up as much clothing as possible.
Wanted for Room 4
If you have an old Chest of drawers that the children in Room 4 can convert to an
indoor rabbit home it would be most appreciated. It would need to be at least 4
drawers deep or a tallboy. Thanks heaps.

Mr Schuster
A final thank you to Mr Schuster for the contributions he has made to our school
over a period of nearly ten years. We all know how hard Mr Schuster has worked during this period.
Mr Schuster is a gifted teacher, an excellent administrator, an inspiring mentor, and a thoughtful
friend of children and staff alike. Thank you for the long hours, the attention to duty, the stepping-up
to whatever task presented, for your loyalty to the school, and for the wise care you have so
generously dispensed to the children in your care.
Mr Schuster will be greatly missed and we wish him the very best in his new role as principal of
Paparoa School.
If you can attend Mr Schuster’s farewell at
10:30 am Thursday 5 July it isn’t too late, give Helen a call or email on Monday.

Finally
We are very pleased to see just how many parents have committed to attending mid-year interviews.
We collect more data than most schools, and it is our strong belief that parents should have access to
this data. You need more than generalities to be assured of how your child is achieving and whether
gaps, if there are any, are closing. Most of the data we will share with you is norm referenced data
and this gives us confidence that our judgments are accurate. Feel free to bring to our attention any
areas of concern and we will commit to working on these.

This is the final newsletter of the term. Enjoy the coming holidays, have quality time together, and be
sure to travel safely. Final day of term is 6 July, first day back is Monday 23 July. Plenty to be
excited about in the forthcoming term including cross-country, school production and more.
See you then!

Kind Regards Nga mihi nui
