Multicultural Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan Title: Sports Around the World

Concept / Topic To Teach: Different sports from different countries can be fun.

General Goal(s): To teach students about diverse sports.

Specific Objectives: To teach students how to appreciate sports that they aren’t familiar with and
learn to play them.

Required Materials: Sports balls from many sports, and four generation genealogy charts.

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): A week before the lesson is to take place I will ask the students to try
and locate where their families come from. Using this information, they are to look up some of
the most popular sports of these countries.

Step-By-Step Procedures:-Students will come with the sports from their countries of origin.
-We will discuss the sports that the students bring in.
-We will learn the rules to some of the most popular sports including
soccer, cricket, and rugby.
-After we learn the sports the students will get split into teams. The
next week we will be rotating the sports.

Plan For Independent Practice: The students will play the sports on their own, with me walking
around answering questions.

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set): Now that we learned that all sports can be fun, we will be
less likely to refuse to enjoy sports from diverse cultures.
Assessment Based On Objectives: The students will have a small exam on the rules of the new
sports that they learned.
