When our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence 242 years ago,
they pledged their loyalty not merely to a document, but to a dream. In doing so,
they made a solemn promise to hope for freedom and equality for all and to give
everything necessary to achieve it.

On this Independence Day, let us reflect on the freedoms we enjoy. Our freedoms
are the culmination of the work and vision of patriots and pioneers. For centuries,
such freedoms were only the subject of dreams, but they are our reality. Let us
protect them. Let us utilize them. As we celebrate, let us remember the sacrifices of
those who came before and pay our respects.

We honor our brave Military and Veterans today. As we remember the men and
women who fight to ensure our liberties and protect our rights, we should solemnly
consider what we can do to support them and remember to offer our gratitude.
Like our forefathers, let us arise and stand for what is right, and let us continue to
work to make the world a better place.

May God bless the State of Utah, and may God bless America. 

Hill Air Force Base
H
ILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — For years, the Hill
Aerospace Museum has been a “must-see”
attraction in northern Utah. More than 265,000
visitors a year tour the museum’s airpark and indoor
galleries spanning 30-acres.
Now, one of the largest travel sites on the web is
saying the same.
The website Trip Advisor, a site dedicated to travel-
related content and visitor reviews, recognized the
Hill Aerospace Museum last month with its Hall of
Fame award for receiving the site’s Certificate of
Excellence five years in a row.
The site issues the certificates to establishments based
on continued excellence in hospitality and people
who provided reviews on Trip Advisor ranked the Hill
Aerospace Museum as the number one place to visit
in the region.
Aaron Clark, the museum’s director, said he’s
elated to receive the recognition and credited the
museum’s professional staff for staying focused on
customer service, its collection and exhibits, care of
the museum grounds and facility, and encouraging
community involvement.
“We have and will continue to listen to our customers,”
Clark said.
Since becoming the museum director in 2013, the
museum has shifted to developing engaging exhibits
that show the rich history of Hill Air Force Base and
Utah aviation.
Clark said the museum’s grounds, facility and
collection are cared for by dedicated staff and
volunteers. In addition, the Aerospace Heritage
Foundation of Utah is a private, non-profit organization
that provides capital support for the museum.

“We have federal employees, volunteers, and a
foundation all working together. This award is a
direct testament to their selfless efforts,” Clark said.
“Museums are about community, and we have
and will continue to involve numerous community
members in our operations.”
Recognition aside, Clark said the museum isn’t finished
with making improvements.
The museum is nearing completion of an interactive
“C-130 experience” classroom where visitors will be
able to climb into the cockpit and learn more about
the long and diverse history of the aircraft. The exhibit
will also be used as a classroom where the museum
will offer programs focused on STEM (science,
technology, engineering and math.)
Other recent additions to the museum include a new
Utah Aviation Hall of Fame, a display dedicated to
Hill’s namesake Maj. Ployer B. Hill, an F-16 Thunderbird
static display, and an aerospace education center
with four classrooms.
Clark said the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of
Utah is continually fundraising for new exhibits and
programs. Plans are underway for construction of a
third gallery that will house all the aircraft currently on
display outside the museum.
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-

VA Updates and Improves Assistance Program for Transitioning Service Members

WASHINGTON - As part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) ongoing efforts to help
transitioning service members navigate and understand VA's various benefits, the agency recently
updated VA's briefing portion of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) - an interagency initiative
authorized as a voluntary program in 1991 under the National Defense Authorization Act and made
mandatory under the VOW to Hire Heroes Act in 2011 to help service members adjust to civilian
life.

tah Golf Foundation’s Veterans on Course
Schedule Set for 2018
MILLCREEK, UTAH – Following back-to-back seasons of
overwhelming growth, the Utah Golf Foundation looks
forward to another successful year of Veterans on
Course (VOC) events. With 11 VOC events scheduled
throughout the state of Utah, the UGF expects the
2018 season to be nothing short of incredible.
Veterans on Course, a program open to male and
female Military personnel of active or Veteran status,
was started in 2016 by the Utah Golf Foundation as
a pilot program to provide instruction and playing
opportunities to Military personnel of all ages and
skill levels free of charge. Each event consists of
lessons from PGA Professionals, a nine-hole scramble
tournament and a social gathering with hors d’oeuvres
and a guest speaker.
The 2016 inaugural VOC season included four events,
all of which filled to maximum capacity. Due to the
program’s awe-inspiring success, the 2017 schedule
was comprised of nine events throughout Utah. More
than 600 Military Veterans participated. In 2018, 11
events will be hosted from Logan to St. George, with
an expectation of nearly 800 participants.
The following VOC events will open for registration
at utahgolffoundation.org one month prior to each
event date:

The First Tee of Utah will continue supporting the
Veterans on Course program by serving as the Vets
Club Depot, a receipt and distribution location
offering donated golf equipment to Veterans new
to the game. The First Tee of Utah’s office is located
at Golf The Round, 680 West 3300 South in Salt Lake
City. Donations are accepted during office hours,
weekdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Vets Club Depot equipment
will be available at each VOC event.
As a registered 501(c)(3) corporation, all donations to
the Utah Golf Foundation (UGF) are tax deductible.
Donations can be made at utahgolffoundation.org.
Your donations support the continuing work of the
UGF’s Veterans on Course and Utah Youth on Course
programs. Without your contributions, the UGF
would be unable to fulfill its mission and purpose to

our years ago, the Veteran-Owned Business
Partnership was created to ensure that Veterans
have the best business resources available at
their fingertips. One of those resources was the
annual Veterans Business Conference held on May
11th this year. All-Star NBA player, business owner,
and motivational speaker, Mark Eaton, was the key-
note and spoke on topics in his recent book The Four
Commitments of a Winning Team. The conference
was attended by 132 Veterans, 35 percent of which
were in their first two years of business. The business
resource partners came together to help Veterans
understand what help is available to them and
strategies to help them grow and experience more
success. Topics included business plans, common
legal issues, funding opportunities, government
contracting, taxes, and many other applicable
subjects.
Our partnership provides exclusive Veteran Business

Vet Finds Support to Land Dream Job

through Workforce Services

I
n February 2018, David J. Davis visited the
Department of Workforce Services Employment
Center in Lehi, Utah, to receive help finding a job.
David had served in the U.S. Army from March 1996
until March 2016, when he was honorably discharged
with his E-7 Sergeant First Class rank.
He was initially trained as a Heavy Wheel Mechanic,
where he served his first five years. He was subsequently
trained at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) as a
French Linguist to work in Army Intelligence, where
he spent the rest of his service. David served multiple
tours including in Kosovo and Iraq. The tours in Iraq
were part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation
Enduring Freedom.
Hal Hooper, a Veteran Employment Representative at
the employment center, checked David’s eligibility for
job search help with the Disabled Veterans Outreach
Program (DVOP). After completing the initial eligibility
check, Hal met with David to scan his verification
documents and complete the assessment.

interviewing skills, so Hal referred David to Mike Hanley,
a Work Success Coach at the Lehi Employment
Center. Hal helped David identify places to improve
his job seeker registration and resume. David made
the recommended changes to increase his likelihood
of getting a job.
He was soon asked to interview in a short amount of
time and was successfully hired by Teleperformance
in Sandy, Utah. David currently works as a customer
service representative, and makes $16 per hour plus
commissions, with an opportunity for income growth
and job advancement. David enjoys his job and
using his computer and communication skills and
says it is going very well. 
