My experiences in internships.

I had internships in two different places. I worked at a government research institute in Korea for two
months during summer break. My primary job was making touchscreen panels in different patterning
and materials with a photolithography process. Four steps were needed to build a touchscreen:
deposition, exposing UV light, developing, etching. Deposition process attached thin coating of oxides Commented [RD1]: The deposition…
and photoresist materials on the surface of the glass. Next, ultraviolet light was exposed on the glass to Commented [RD2]: a
make a pattern. Developer liquid removed exposed photoresist material on the glass. Etching process Commented [RD3]: The etching
will remove exposed oxide on the glass. Finally, the remaining photoresist material was moved from the
glass so that only patterned oxide and the glass would be left out. After the patterns were fabricated, Commented [RD4]: a
circuit was attached to the glass so that the electrical signal from the screen could be read in the chip
connected to the computer. A software read the signals and outputted the touch position on the screen. Commented [RD5]: delete – Software read…
I made numerous changes on conditions of photolithography fabrication until a clear patterning on the
glass was obtained.

I worked at Chart manufacturing cryogenic tanks in all kind of sizes. My primary job was modeling
hundreds of head hole layouts. I got a manufacturing schedule from my supervisor and sorted out the
part numbers that I need to model. The manufacturing schedule had a lot of duplicated head hole Commented [RD6]: needed
layouts, so I needed to eliminate the duplicates and compared with the existing part number that the Commented [RD7]: compare them
modeling was done. I made a spreadsheet to organize the part numbers and pulled out the list that I Commented [RD8]: had?
needed to work on. The second job that I did was revising template. Big engineering institute such as
ASME or CGA publishes their own code books. These codes are required when one is manufacturing a Commented [RD9]: delete
product. This code books are revised every several years, and product design needs to be updated based Commented [RD10]: These (plural)
on the revised codes. I changed some templates that designer uses to pick which valve to use. Commented [RD11]: designs need
Templates are basically lists of calculations formatted in computer document. I used Mathcad to re-

write the template, which is a similar program as MATLAB. I also did some simulation on pipe bending

program so that the pipe would not collapse on the obstacles while it was bending.

I went through different types of industries and these experiences had helped me to decide which field Commented [RD15]: a
of industry that I should study further. I decided to move on to the fluid and heat transfer related
industry because I had a fun while I was going through the old templates how it works and revised them Commented [RD16]: delete (not needed)
to upgrade the templates. Commented [RD17]: comma
Commented [RD18]: seeing how they worked (plural)
Commented [RD19]: revising
Commented [RD20]: nice job on this
