Objetivos:

Fornecer conhecimentos e estratégias eficazes para o aprimoramento da confecção e apresentação de trabalhos

científicos.

Justificativa:

No contexto acadêmico atual, a habilidade de expor conhecimentos com sucesso é fundamental para formação de
estudantes de pós-graduação que buscam preparar-se para publicação científica em veículos de divulgação de
alto impacto e alcançar bons padrões curriculares.

Conteúdo:

Making Presentations about Scientific Research is a half-day workshop designed to help researchers in
engineering and science make their presentations more understandable, memorable, and persuasive. The
workshop has three goals: (1)to learn strategies for orienting the audience at the talk’s beginning and for
persuading the audience in the talk’s middle; (2)to translate the passion for the research into confidence during a
presentation; and (3)to rise above the defaults of PowerPoint to create visual aids that help audiences understand
and remember the content. Writing Articles about Scientific Research is a six-hour workshop designed to help
researchers in engineering and science improve the way that they communicate their work in journal papers and
conference publications. The course has three goals: (1) to learn the stylistic differences between strong writing
and weak writing in research documents; (2) to make the writing process more efficient; and (3) to break ground
on a research document. Different versions of this workshop have recently been taught at Pennsylvania State
University, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Simula Research Laboratory (Norway), Harvard Medical School, Society
of Optical Engineering (SPIE) Conferences, the University of Illinois, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University
of Seville, Sandia National Labs, and the European Space Observatory. One week before the workshop,
participants will receive a preparation assignment.
