WOOD DUST CONCENTRATION RELATION WITH LUNG CAPACITY OF

VITAL IN FURNITURE WORKERS IN DISTRICT HERAM JAYAPURA

ABSTRACT

The rapid development of the industry and its products have a positive impact on
human life. On the other hand the negative impact that happened was the emergence of
diseases due to exposure to the materials production itself. An estimated 3.6 million workers
from 25 European countries are exposed to wood dust. This study aims to determine the
relationship of the concentration of wood dust, smoking habits, length of employment and the
use of personal protective equipment to workers in the furniture district Heram of Jayapura
City.

Design of this research is analytic survey using cross-sectional study design is the
design of the study with examination of the status of exposure and disruption of vital lung
capacity at the same time. The population in this study was 6 of wooden furniture in the
District Heram with respondents as many as 30 people. The statistical test used was chi-
square test

Results of univariate chi-square test on the significance of 95% (0.05) there is a


relationship between smoking variables (p-value: 0.000), with lung vital capacity furniture
workers in the district of Heram Jayapura city. There is no relationship between the variables
of wood dust concentrations (p-value: 1.000), personal protective equipment (p-value: 0.029),
working period (p-value: 1.000) with lung vital capacity furniture workers in the district of
Heram, Jayapura city.
