The intent of this specification is to provide minimum requirements of surface preparation,


painting and protective coating for Condenser of POSCO Power Indonesia ISM Power Plant.

Equipments shall be supplied in strict accordance with the latest issue in effect (unless otherwise noted),
at time of purchase order, of code and standards, in addition, the Supplier shall comply
with the Contractor's specification.

3.2 The equipment shall be coated in accordance with the painting specfication.
In case of conflict between the SHI Shop painting Procedure and the coating specification, the
coating specification shall prevail. Any deviation from the coating specification must be approved
by CLIENT.

3.3 The painting Sub-contractor shall adequately protect all stored materials from damage due to
contamination, rain, and/or freezing temperature.

3.4 All paint or coating materials shall be supplied to the worksite in their original unopened
and clearly identifiable containers.

3.5 Paint materials shall be used before the expiration of their shelf-life.

3.6 Material shall be prepared for use in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

3.7 During the sequential paintings, especially at the time of on-site painting after shop
painting, each painting shall be carried out after adequate surface treatment through
consultation with the paint supplier if the period between the sequences elapsed beyond
that specified by the supplier.

4.1 Application ("'!%)

(1) All surfaces of carbon steel shall be blasted, unless otherwise specified,
using dry blasting abrasive only.

(2) Blast cleaning shall not be conducted when the temperature of the surfaces is
less than 3·c above dew point of the surrounding air or when the relative
humidity of the air is more than 80%.

(3) Any oil and grease on the surface before surface preparation shall be
removed by SSPC - SP 1, solvent cleaning.

(4) All rough welds, burrs, weld spatters, indentations, and all other sharp surface
projections shall be ground smooth prior to further surface preparation.

(5) Steel and fabrication defects such as weld spatters, lamination scabs,
sharp edges of welds, and slivers visible before or after blast cleaning
shall be repaired prior to coating.

(6) Abrasive shall be dry and oil-free. Oil and water separators shall be used in compressed
air lines to remove oil and moisture from the air before using.
Separators shall be placed as close as possible to the blast equipment.

(7) After blasting and immediately prior to coating, the blasting dust and abrasives
shall be removed by using a high pressure air blow off and followed by vacuum

4.3 Application of Coating (£ %)

(1) No paint area such as machined surface (metal to metal contacted surface), bolt threads, etc
shall be coated with rust preventive oil. (Tectyl 506 or equivalent)

(2) Paint shall be applied within 4 hours after the surface have been prepared,
but in any event before visible rusting occurs.

(3) Paint shall not be applied to the wet surface.

(4) Application of paint shall be applied by means of conventional spray or airless spray.
Brush or roller may be used for touch-up and stripe coating.

(5) Coating materials shall be delivered in the manufacturer's original sealed containers with legible labels.
The containers of paint or thinner shall not be opened unless ready for immediate use.

(6) Mixing and application of coating material shall be in accordance with the data sheet(s)
published by the paint manufacturer(s).

(7) Thinner products from the paint manufacturer shall be used. Products from different
manufacturers shall not be intermixed.

(8) Painting shall be carefully performed at all edges, corners, crevices, rivets, bolts and nuts, welds
and other complex shapes that are sensitive to rust.(to do stripe coating)

(9) Unless otherwise specifically indicated, the surfaces, such as stainless steel, brass, copper of
any other non-ferrous items, finished hardware including machined surface, aluminum windows,
name plate, hot dip galvanized and plated surface etc. shall not be painted.

4.4 Touch-up Painting (.'i'.'T .S:. )

(1) Surface preparation


The type of surface preparation for the damaged area shall be determined by the extent of rusting
of the damaged area.

(2) Rusted area and coating defects area shall be prepared by blast or power tool cleaning.

(3) Non rusted area and slightly damaged area shall be prepared by hand tool or power tool cleaning.

(4) The application method for the touch up painting is specified by brush or spray.
Touch up painting by roller is not permitted.

(5) Damaged parts caused by burns, welds, scratches, impact act. during fabrication, handling,
storage, shipping and erection shall be touched up with the same kinds of paints after power
