Subject: Motivation Letter

With this letter I hereby wish to state my interest and apply for Master of Science
degree program in Epidemiology. I always had an interest and passion for Medicine,
and therefore it is not surprising that I have finished my Bachelor studies in the field
of medicine in just five years instead of six.

I have developed this strong passion towards Epidemiology thanks to my father who
is a Epidemiologist, working in the MoH in the Statistics Department. Thanks to him
and his scientific work, I became keen to learn more about this field. Therefore I
have enrolled into and completed in 2015 my Bachelor studies of Public Health at
the [UNIVERSITY NAME]. While attending college, I focused primarily on
biostatistics and the use of biostatistics to evaluate health impacts. During my
studies I finished a capstone project analyzing time to event data in approximately
1000 patients at four single nucleotide polymorphisms of interest for potential
development of a heart condition. I have also designed many of the research
frameworks and analysis methods, based on the prominent research I had on my
disposal. In processing data I have used MATLAB in cooperation with other college
fellows.

Theoughr my life I have often been involved in volunteering, in order to gain

experience, but also to give my personal contribution to the community. Before
attending college, I volunteered at St. Agnes Nursing Center where I have been
supporting the elderly in eating, playing games, and talking to them. While attending
college, I have volunteered in Kenya, where I worked and observed the children with
Ebola.

Through Master program offered by Your University I tend to develop skills and
competences in the Epidemiology, through full understanding of risk factors for the
diseases, and its impact on population. Moreover, since my IT skills are not so
strong at the moment I hope to develop stronger computer skills for data processing
in using software such SAS, MATLAB and SPSS. Last, but not least I perceive this
as an opportunity to get the insight in the Epidemiology medical practice in one of the
best hospitals in the country, in this field.

I am applying after carefully reviewing the course curriculum. Since the research
focus and facilities available in your department complement my research interests
and requirements, I believe that being a student in your department would not only
empower my career development, but would give me the framework my utilize my
full potentials. Moreover I feel that as a Masters student at your University, I can
benefit from the numerous challenging career opportunities.

Sincerely,
Name and Surname of the Applicant
I sincerely ask you guys to help me correct my motivation letter
Thanks so much!!

From 1624 to 1662, during the Age of Discoveries, Taiwan was colonized by Holland. Dutch
officials hired a lot of local people to alleviate the problem of lacking of labors. The
commercial development of Taiwan was growing rapidly at that time. After that, Taiwan was
occupied by China and Japan respectively, which made Taiwan immersed with multi-cultures
and become what it looks like today. Thus, I think it is a nature of Taiwanese to explore and
learned from foreign countries.
Netherlands is one of the most advanced countries and medical research is emphasized
there. Also, This Biomedical Sciences Program is well-known for its Clinical Molecular Science
and Maastricht University provides excellent students with the appealing scholarship. I
believe that I am the right candidate for your university, for this program and the scholarship
according to my previous studies, working experience and my character.
June, 2014 I graduated from Department of Biotechnology and Laboratory Science in
Medicine in National Yang University, which is one of the best University in Taiwan. For the
former two years, the courses focused on general sciences like Biochemistry, Molecular
Biology and Physiology. In the third year, we started to access to clinical subject,
Microbiology& Immunology, clinical biochemistry and hematology. Last year, I had the
internship program in the Taipei Veteran General Hospital as a clinical medical laboratory
scientist. It was a precious opportunity to experience clinical work and interact with patients
and other medical professionals. I could apply myself to helping patients screen their
diseases and assisting them to find the correct therapies - It is the goal that I keep reaching
for and I think of it as my career.
To support myself through the university, I taught students English in a language school as a
part-time job while I tried to balance my life with other activities as well. In the beginning, I
was nervous to be in front of students but the more I tried, the more I know how to express
myself to others and learned to cooperate with colleagues. Although, it was not an easy task
to handle both studies and work at the same time, I’m sure I did become more independent.
Moreover, in my spare time, I love playing volleyball and learning new languages. Our
volleyball team won championship and third place in 2014 and 2013 respectively. On the
court, it is a team-work and teammates need to cover each other. This spirit is extremely
important no matter where we are and where we work. Then, I keep challenging myself to try
new languages. Besides English and French, Russian would be my next target.
After graduation, I participated in a molecular biology research team in National Taiwan
University Hospital, which is the biggest medical center in Taiwan. Since this research team is
in the hospital, our destination is to improve the treatments for patients. This concept gives
me and my colleagues a lot of inspiration. We used samples collected from patients to
screen the gene regulation of certain diseases and undertook the drug assay into cancer cells
to observe the effects. All we did is seek a breakthrough in clinical therapies. In my current
work, I learned many fundamental laboratory skills and practice them every day. I hope to
take advantage of what I learned into my upcoming research project and in my future career.
Maastricht University is a prestigious university and the master’s program and the
scholarship must be competitive. While, my previous studies are correspond to the
biomedical sciences program and I have relevant working experience. If I could finish so
many tasks during the undergraduate school, I think I will do even better in the graduate
school with the help of the scholarship. Let me strengthen your research performance.
