The filtering surface (SF) given in m2 is estimated using the following expression:
 
SF m 2  0.26  F  c0.18  350   0.5
Where:
F = gas flow at 25 °C given in m3/min
c = concentration of dust given in g/m3
φ = average diameter of the particle, in μm
For example, con F=700 m3/min , c = 40 g/m3, φ = 50 μm :
     
SF m 2  0.26  700  (40) 0.18  350  (50) 0.5  403m 2
Volume occupied by the filter (m3) = 0.33 · SF; 133 m3 for the example
Consumption of compressed air (Nm3/h) = 0.215 · SF; 87 Nm3/h for the exam
Surface occupied by the filter (m2) = 0.047 · SF; 19 m2 for the example
In case the values of “c” and “φ” are unkown, an appropriate expression is:
 
SF m 2  0.014  Q, Q must be given in Nm 3 / h
