“The Filipino as an Artist in Chicago”

Art Exhibit runs all October 2010

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, the Philippine CPAs

(Certified Public Accountants) of Greater Chicago and Walgreens are pleased to
announce that in celebration of “Filipino American History Month” and the 15 th
“Chicago Artists Month” in October this year, an art exhibit by seven Filipino
American artists - “The Filipino as an Artist in Chicago” - will be held at 30 N.
Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60602. The art exhibit kicks-off on October 1
and runs the entire month.

The participating Filipino American artists are Susan Alforque Silvano,

Eulalio Bueno, Fabie de Silva, Cesar Conde, Jun-Jun Sta. Ana, Willi Buhay, and
Wivinne Eve Red Buhay (“ERBU”).

Susan is a certified public accountant and visual artist, and loves to paint
in vibrant and earthy colors with textures and patterns. Bueno is a well-known
Filipino American visual artist and portraitist of internationally known personalities
such as Pope Paul VI, Senator Dianne Feinstein and other noted persons in
Chicago and Manila, Philippines. Fabie believes that specifically, painting within
the genres and imbued sentimentalism of the Expressionists and the Abstract
Expressionists enables one to escape the firm grip of cultural dilemma of being a
second-generation Filipino American. Cesar studied with the French master of
the “Technique Mixte” with Maestro Patrick Betaudier in Chicago and at his
atelier in Monflanquin, France. Jun Jun has conducted one-person exhibitions
and joined selected group exhibitions in Chicago and Manila. Willi is the former
Artistic Director for Design of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Folk Arts
Theater in Manila, Philippines. Wivinne Eve or “ERBU’s” artworks are eclectic,
simple still life or self-portraits which have meaning in life and respect different
aspects in life.

Most of the artists’ artwork will be displayed at the Kalayaan

(Independence) Hall (21st Floor) of the Consulate, while selected artworks of the
same artists will be showcased at the Walgreens drugstore (ground floor at the
corner of Washington and Michigan).
 The exhibit in Kalayaan Hall will run for the whole month. The display at
Walgreens will run October 1-10.

The art exhibit is also intended to showcase the artistry and ingenuity of
the Filipino American visual artists.

Walgreens and the Philippine CPAs of Greater Chicago are sponsoring

the exhibit to support Filipino American artists and the celebration of the 15th
“Chicago Artists Month.”

The art exhibit is part of Chicago Artists Month 2010, the fifteenth annual
celebration of Chicago’s vibrant art community coordinated by the Chicago
Department of Cultural Affairs. For more information about Chicago Artists

The venue of the art exhibit - 30 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois

60602 - is strategically located in the City as across it is the historical Chicago
Cultural Center (formerly the Chicago Public Library) and immediately in front is
Millennium Park. It is estimated that about 150,000 passersby pass by the
corner of Washington St. and 30 N. Washington Avenue, which is the venue of
the art exhibit.
