Lesson idea implementation:

 I will begin this lesson by playing the iMovie that I created about the water cycle, and this short video will
act as my lesson’s “hook.” The students will watch the video, and then the class will review the key points
and definitions/terminology from the video. I will ask the students to name some of the images that they
saw in the video, and I will ask them to explain how the images relate to the water cycle. Following the
class discussion, the students will then be divided up into groups. The students will work with their groups
to create their own video about one topic of the water cycle that they were assigned. The students will
complete research and then put together a short video that will teach their topic to the class.

 The students will have an ample amount of time to complete the assignment, and the students will
present their videos to the class. The students will be graded on completion of the assignment, and I will
consider how well the students worked with their peers in a group format. While a group is presenting
their video, the rest of the class will watch the video and then fill out a short reflection about what they

learned from the presenters’ video. The students will be encouraged to include facts and drawings on
their reflection sheet to act as a reference and review of each part of the water cycle.

Importance of technology:
 The use of the iMovie in this lesson allows the students to learn in a visual and auditory fashion. By
providing an example video to the class, the students are able to view what a created video might look
like, and this preview will be helpful for the students to use and reflect on while they are creating their
own videos. Without the example being shown and provided to the students, the learning activity would
possibly not turn out to be effective for all students to learn from. Students can add music, recorded
voice, and a small video to help them cover their topic for the project.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

 Internet safety and student privacy is my number one priority. For this lesson, students will use a video
creating tool like iMovie to design and create their own videos. The students should use their first name
and the first letter of their last name in the credits portion of their videos. If students choose to use
images and videos in their presentations, then the teacher must ensure that the students are not
breaking copyright laws or using incorrect/inappropriate material.

Reflective Practice:
 This lesson is designed to help students learn in an interactive way that allows them to be creative and
design original products to enhance their learning. My iMovie will be used to introduce the lesson activity,
and the lesson is extended by having the students complete research and designing their own informative
videos to share with the class. This lesson can be further advanced or extended by posting the videos to a
locked page on the classroom blog. Students and parents can then view the students’ creations by using a
password to view the videos online.
