TurningPoint Workshop
Evaluation Data & Narrative
Clayton County Public Schools has a focus on infusing technology into every classroom
throughout the district. This infusion has come with an emphasis on assessment technology.
Because students are now required to take the Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS)
test and End-of-Course (EOC) test online, the district is prioritizing giving the students as many
Sequoyah Middle School administration has encouraged the teaching staff to use the
assessment platform that gives teachers and students instant feedback on an assessment, while
the evaluation is conducted. Tho this tool is in every classroom, the teachers at Sequoyah
Middle School do not use the platform consistently. Teachers were asked, informally, why they
do not use the system during their grade-level and faculty meetings. Some teachers stated lack
of training, while others said that it was easier to give an assessment using pencil and paper.
Based on the teachers' comments and concerns, the presenter requested to conduct a
workshop for the staff on using TurningPoint. The presenter was granted permission by the
administration to conduct the workshop during the connections teachers' planning period. The
workshop was originally scheduled for April 17, 2018, and an email invitation was sent out, but
due to an unscheduled mandatory testing meeting, it had to be postponed. The presenter was
given a new date of April 24, 2018, as the new date of the workshop.
The workshop was conducted in an open format, with the teachers asking questions as
they worked through the agenda. The teachers seem to stay attentive and inquisitive
throughout the workshop, working along with the presenter on the workshop learning
objectives. At the end of the workshop, the teachers completed an anonymous workshop
evaluation survey. Based on the data collected from the survey, all of the responding teachers
found the resources used in the workshop appropriate. The surveyed teachers also responded
in the affirmative, with 25% agreeing and 75% strongly agreeing that the TurningPoint
workshop would better able them to use technology for assessment of students' learning in
their classroom. An area of concern highlighted in the data from the survey was the perceived
lack of time and opportunity to develop the necessary technology skills to teach effectively.
The teachers responded to this question with 58.4% agreeing or strongly agreeing and 41.6
responding a neutral, disagree, or strongly disagree response. To address the lack of training
opportunity at the school, the presenter will share the data from the survey with the school's
administration. The presenter will also offer follow-up workshops on various instructional
technology topics.
