Use of Interactive Multimedia Classroom Technique: The Effect on

Retention Capacity and Improved Performance on Students Responses
by : John E. Cordero

Abstract
In the current time, people cannot imagine life without technology. Everyone uses technology that
changes the world and makes everything easier. Some people think that technology plays a vital role
to communicate more effectively to the learners. Do individual differences in retention ability affect
student learning with the use of interactive multimedia instructional classroom setting? High and low
retention capacity students, as measured by the operation span (OSPAN), task that engaged in an
interactive learning. The use of multimedia seems to be interested to the part of the learner’s such as
projector, Smart TV, Cellphone, etc. One of the techniques to improve the students’ meet their
academic needs and helps them to develop the academic skills is providing multimedia during the
teaching and learning process in the classroom. Using interactive multimedia in the classroom
should not be taken for granted because of many advantages. Giving positive point improves the
quality of teaching and providing various techniques in teaching academic subject. Hence, retention
capacity and improved performance on students’ responses through multimedia. The teacher could
give more opportunity to students to express their opinions resulting to productive discussion.
Constant motivation also brings positivity aspects to students so that they can improve their
academic skills.

Reflection

In the traditional classroom setting, the teachers stand in front of the students, merely explains,
informs, and instructs. A teacher usually utilizes chalk and blackboard with Manila paper or cartolina
as instructional materials, advancement in technology brought a lot of changes. The 21st Century
teacher is now engage with multimedia classrooms, students’ seat can be modified according to the
situation needed and all the equipment’s are available and makes the students feel comfortable to
study. The use of multimedia classroom technique has a great effect in the retention capacity and
improved student-responses during discussion students become increasingly familiar with academic
vocabulary and language structures which encourages them to make connections as they build a
wider range of schemata. Multimedia resources for studying provides students with opportunities to
gather information through stimuli that will widen their imaginations, engage their interest leading
them for analysis, interpretation of both language and context. Students develop solid foundation in
several subject areas and become “content experts” in one. Therefore, the studies support the
application of interactive multimedia design in the classroom, when technology is to have an effect
on learning with students using the program found in the virtual world of education.
