Introduction
Thank you for purchasing from Noisefirm; we hope you enjoy this instrument, and
happy music making! The NF-01 Vintage Synthesizer fully captures all the nuances of its
classic ancestor, Yamaha's CS01, and evokes the rich harmonics and fat sounds of a bygone
era.  Featuring 6 unique waveforms, with the ability to to be independently mixed and tuned,
NF-01 can produce a wide array of synth textures.  From warm evolving pads to percussive
pluck sounds and aggressive basses, NF-01 can serve up a wide variety of inspirational
elements for your next creation.

Simplicity - the ultimate sophistication 

Unlike many synths of today that can overwhelm with countless controls, modulators, and se-
quencers, NF-01 is an homage to the foundation of subtractive synthesis.  You will feel a a
great freedom in being able to imagine nearly any sound and create it in mere minutes.  Start-
ing from some of the included presets, basic waveforms, or even a blank slate is no longer a
prison of tone. Getting from where you are to where you want to be usually only involves a few
turns of the knob.

Installation

Kontakt Instruments
1. To install Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synthesizer into NI Kontakt, locate the directory:
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments”

2. Drag this entire directory to the location where you keep your Kontakt Sample Library. Note: the
location is a matter of personal preference.

3. Open Kontakt. (as standalone or a plug-in)

4. Navigate to the location where you placed the aforementioned directory in the Kontakt “File
Browser”.

5. Select the directory in the upper browser window, and all of the available Kontakt (.nki)
instruments will be listed in the lower browser window.

6. Drag the desired .nki instrument into the instrument window

Ableton Live Instruments
1. To install Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synthesizer into Ableton Live, navigate to the following folder
in the built-in browser:
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments/NF-01 Ableton Patches”

2. Select either of the two master synth patches. They are conveniently set up to act as either
polyphonic (for pads, plucks, chords) or monophonic (basses, leads, etc.)

3. Note: you may have to manually locate original sample location the first time you load either of
these two patches. The samples for all software instruments are located in the directory:
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments/NF-01 Samples”

Apple Logic EXS24 Instruments

1. To install Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synthesizer into Apple Logic’s EXS24 sampler, locate the
following directory
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments/NF-01 EXS Patches”

2. Drag this folder into the following directory (the EXS24 sample library):
“/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments”

3. The next time you load EXS24 (or refresh menu), the NF-01 should be available.

4. Note: you may have to manually locate original sample location the first time you load some of
these patches. The samples for all software instruments are located in the directory:
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments/NF-01 Samples”

Usage

Kontakt Instruments
The NF-01 Kontakt instrument comes packed with custom scripting, a user-friendly GUI,
and over 100 presets to get you going.

1. To load any of the NF-01 presets into NI Kontakt, locate (with the Kontakt browser) the directory:
“Noisefirm NF-01 Classic Synth/NF-01 Sampler Instruments”

2. Drag any of the available .nki instrument presets into the instrument window on the right.

3. Connect a MIDI device and play!

The Kontakt Interface
1. Waves Section - Controls volume and tuning of individual oscillators

2. Filter Section - Controls bypass, type, cutoff, resonance, envelope modulation, and LFO
Modulation for the Filter

3. AMP Section - controls the amplitude envelope and velocity modulation for amplitude

4.Performance Section - Controls voice behavior, glide time, unison on/off, number of unison
voices, detune strength of unison voices, and stereo spread of unison voices

5. LFO Seciton - Controls speed of LFO and intensity that it modulates the pitch

6. FX Section - Speaker simulation, delay, and reverb

7. Use these arrows to switch between adjacent presets quickly

8. Click the wrench for deeper instrument editing (eee Kontakt reference manual for more details)

Ableton Live Instruments

The Ableton Live instruments come in two flavors: Mono and Poly. These are great starting
points to build your own sounds, just like on the original synthesizer. Additionally, there are 8
macro controls available that affect all of the oscillators/waves uniformly.

• Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, Filter Type Select, Filter Cutoff Frequency, Filter Resonance,
Filter AMP Envelope Modulation

Note: In order to change other elements of the overall sound (like tuning, pitch envelope,
LFO etc.), you will need to go into each instance of Simpler in the instrument rack, and change
your desired parameter manually.

Apple Logic EXS24 Instruments

The Logic EXS instruments are split up into each individual oscillator. This is a fantastic way
to explore each wave, as they all have their own strengths. All of EXS24’s built-in functions are
available, including filters, modulation, unison, and much more

One Shots
Noisefirm NF-01 also comes with over 1,000 “one shots” of pre-programmed NF-01
sounds over a wide array of pitches. These make it easy to drop quickly into a sequencer, and
they are also great for procession with other sample players, such as Ableton’s Simpler
