Maja is a designer with over fifteen years of experience in start-up apparel companies. She
founded an eponymous young designer/contemporary collection in 1996 which was carried in
top American and Japanese retailers and featured in editorials, profiles and runway show
reviews in international fashion publications. The Maja collection was shown during NY fashion
week, including the Bryant Park tents venue, in collaboration with some of the finest models,
photographers and stylists in the industry. Maja brings concepts and inspirations to reality and
has created collections which sparked a devoted following of celebrity stylists and retailers.
Maja’s artistic fervor is not limited to fashion. Throughout her formative years, she worked in
the studio of her late father, sculptor Duane Hanson, where she modeled for him several times.
She also attributes inspiration from the childhood experiences of lunching at Andy Warhol's
Factory with her parents, and dinners which included Robert Rauschenberg, John Chamberlain
and Marisol - some of the great pop artists. Her enthusiasm for art lead her to work briefly for
the contemporary artist Jeff Koons in 2003, and she continues to work with her family to place
Maja Hanson her father's work in appropriate international venues.
Denise has spent the last decade carefully acquiring and honing a skill set imperative to an
independent style, marketing and brand consultant specializing in luxury. Her breadth of
professional experiences has included strategic roles in front and back of house operations
across a myriad of high net-worth consumption sectors including fine jewelry, designer jewelry,
furniture and decorative art, designer apparel, cosmetic dentistry, and investments. Frequently
serving as "corporate ambassador", Denise has fine-tuned a unique ability to implement
effective strategies and communicate a luxury product’s viability to capture market share.
Denise has an on-going passion for acquiring beautiful things, designing custom jewelry and
accessories, and participating in making beautiful images through concept realization, casting,
styling, staging, and post-production direction. Serving as muse to private jeweler Joseph
Knight for nine years, she further developed her innate understanding that the power of jewelry
is what it means to the woman wearing it. Denise continues to be inspired by global design
perspectives, and studies art and style history to better understand how historic and cultural
influences shape individual expression, and how those elements manifest into consumer
behavior.

Maja and Denise launched Courtesan as a collaborative effort to showcase a modern
application of couture sewing techniques to produce a contemporary product with a
deconstructivist sensibility. These couture stitches, some hidden, and others meant to be seen,
work in concert with Swarovski crystals and natural materials such as shell, pearl and semi-
precious stone through an intuitive process to create a dreamlike result. Courtesan captures
personal enjoyment in each hand-made piece, delighting the wearer and provoking the desire
of others.
