Rationale for Curriculum Use: Raz-Kids is an award-winning website and app where kids can
go to read anytime they like. This app caters to students in kindergarten to grade 5. Teachers
can easily keep track of students’ progress with their online tracking and assessment capabilities.
Raz-Kids helps students to be connected learners and develop their literacy skills further.

Rationale for Curriculum Use: Duolingo is a language learning platform and can be done
through the Duolingo website or app. It can teach you over 23 languages and teachers can track
student progress through the Duolingo dashboard. The premise behind Duolingo is that is can
teach you a language in as little as 5 minutes of practice a day. This app would benefit ELL
students in a classroom or students who are beginning to learn a new language in the school
system (i.e. French or Spanish classes).

iPads and provides a brilliant way for practicing curriculum expectations. Divided into lessons, a
child is able to navigate at his or her own speed moving onto something more challenging when
ready. In addition, the app provides a wonderful dashboard for teachers and parents to identify
strengths and areas that need improvement.

Rationale for curriculum use: A useful app for all children, in particular those that struggle
with decoding and reading. The app helps children to decode difficult words and models how to
sound them out. Furthermore, it teaches students how to chunk the word into syllables, how to
blend phonemes together, etc. The app has a variety of modes which allow students to simply
take a photo of the page and isolate a word, upload pages in an image gallery or type in difficult
words.

Rationale for curriculum use: Write About This is a writing app that inspires students to start
writing. With hundreds of visual, text and voice prompts, it challenges writers to think critically,
be creative, etc. Teachers and students can search for categories, specific prompts or upload their
own prompts to suit a learning unit. There are different levels of complexity. In addition,
students can read and record their writing and their work can be shared with others via e-mail.
This app is multi-user friendly and will save work by author making it an effective tool for
assessment.
