Nesse sentido, Setzer (2002) argumenta que os jogos eletrônicos criam novos
“canais” ou “caminhos neurológicos” que possuem a função de possibilitar que o
jogador tome as ações necessárias para executar tarefas inerentes ao jogo e que
esses caminhos não são úteis para a vida real do indivíduo, por terem sido criados
artificialmente. Embora algumas pesquisas coloquem que quando as habilidades
cognitivas são bem treinadas, por meio do videogame, poderiam ser generalizadas a
diversas situações cotidianas, como por exemplo, crianças que foram treinadas na
habilidade de atenção alternada e concentração usando jogos de videogame e
posteriormente mostraram que prestavam mais atenção no trânsito e atravessavam
a rua, em geral, de uma forma mais segura. Hasdai, Jessel & Weiss (1998)
descrevem também o sucesso de um treinamento do uso de cadeira de rodas
motorizada por crianças com paralisia cerebral ou distrofia muscular progressiva,
através do uso de um videogame controlado por um joystick.
