Activity 2

1. High mountain barriers

2. Cold ocean current
3. High pressure system

Activity 3

1. Because any moisture in the air evaporated

2. Air passing over cold ocean currents is cooled, and therefore is unable to pick up and hold
much moisture. When this cold air mass reaches the warm desert, any moisture in the air is
evaporated and so does not fall as rain and so the desert remains dry.
3. The air is dry and is moving downwards.
4. Moisture from the land.

Activity 4

1. Warm air passes over the ocean

2. Air picks up moisture from the ocean in the form of water vapor.
3. Moisture travels over the land.
4. Moisture rises to pass over mountain ranges.
5. The cool air condenses the water vapor causing rains.
6. The air that reaches the other side of the mountain does not contain moisture anymore.

Activity 5

1. Warm air.
2. The form of water vapor
3. Moist air travels over the land
4. Moist air travels over the land
5. The air cools
6. The air reaches

Activity 6

As this moist air travels over the it rises to past over mountai ranges.
land
When it begins to rise, the air cools and this causes the water vapor to
condense into droplets which fall as rain.
When the air reaches the other side of it has lost all its moisture and so the other side
the mountain barrier of the mountain remains dry.

When this cold air mass reaches the any moisture in the air is evaporated and so does
warm desert, not fall as rain
As this system moves over the land, It draws in moisture from the land surface.

General statement: 5. Volcanoes are mountains formed from molten lava. The lava flows out of the
groun and forms layers of solid rock.

SE 1 : 1. If you could look inside volcano you would see layers of rock that have been formed by
flows of lave. The lava comes from deep inside the Earth.

SE 2 : 3. Lava flows are hot enough to set fire to trees and houses. Strong winds sometimes fan the
flames. Causing wildfires.

SE 3 : 2. As well as lava, some volcanoes produce ash clouds and burning cinders. The cinders can
cause wildfires.

Conclusion : 4. When fires are started by volanoues, the best way to extiguish the flames is water
bombing from helicopters.
