ABSTRACT

Background: Acromioclavicular joint injury (AC joint injury) frequently occur and
most cases can be done in a conservative therapy. However, a significant disruption of
the supporting structures around it can lead to instability requiring treatment with
surgical intervention. Approximately 40% of shoulder injuries involve
acromioclavicular joint. In a state of major trauma, the damage could also involve
coracoclavicular ligament, where both are supporting the vertical and horizontal
stability. AC joint injury devided into 6 types based on the degrees and type of
deformity. In type 3 injury, the instability has occured and need to be considered
operative therapy. At Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopaedic Hospital Surakarta, there is
no studies that describe clinical outcome of patients with chronic AC joint injury
reconstruction with weaver dunn procedure, so the researchers wanted to know the
success rate of this method.

Patients and Methods: We performed a retrospective study with total sampling

method of all patients who come to Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopaedic Hospital, that
suffered chronic acromioclavicular injuries and has already done surgical treatment
with Weaver Dunn Procedure. Then, we evaluate clinical outcome using the Quick
Disabilities of the Arm Shoulder and Hand-9 (QuickDASH-9) Score.

Result: A total of 4 patients were included in the study were 3 men (75%) female 1
(25%). The average age of affected patients was 54 years old and the most affected
shoulder is the right shoulder as much as 4 patients (75%) and left shoulder 1 patients
(25%). From the results obtained QuickDASH-9 Score of 3 patients (75%) were
include in good criteria, while 1 patients (25%) were in moderate criteria, and there is
no patient in a poor criteria obtained from this research.

Conclusion: In this study, we found that patients who treated with weaver dunn
procedure after chronic acromioclavicular joint injury provide satisfactory functional
results refers to QuickDASH-9 Score.
