The Autumn Leaves Drift by Our Windows

With this week’s change in weather and temperatures, leaves have begun to
take Autumn seriously. Shortly we’ll be outside at every opportunity with
rakes in hand. LMOA’s leaf disposal site within the fenced area at Tufton
Lake is open for disposal of leaves, acorns and grass clippings only. Please
remove leaves from bags, and take the bags for reuse. Please do not dump brush, tree branches,
trash or other debris. No commercial dumping.

WHO SAYS THERE’S NOTHING TO DO AT AND AROUND LAKE MONTICELLO?

Fall is jam-packed with activities, all the way through October and beyond.
Ä Dixieland Jazz to Aid Pier Fund, Sun., Oct. 3: This is a rare opportunity for an afternoon of
excellent Dixieland Jazz, from 2 to 4PM in the Terrace Room, while also raising funds for the community fishing
pier. The Jefferson Jazz Ramblers will get your blood pumping and your toes tapping. All proceeds from ticket
sales will go toward the pier fund. Tickets are available in advance or at the door at just $8 each or two for $15.
Kids under 13 are free. Cash bar, 50/50 raffle, chips and pretzels included. Purchase advance tickets at the
Administration Office or from members of Bo’s Pier Group.
Ä “Second Chance” Day: LMOA and Goodwill Industries of the Valleys have planned a Second Chance day on Sat., Oct. 9,
from 8AM to 4PM at Goodwill’s Turkeysag donation center for residents who want to de-clutter as they go into the Fall and Winter.
Donate gently used clothing, household items (no major appliances), computers and other electronic equipment and more. Bring items
to the Goodwill donation center just outside Falcon Hills (Turkeysag) Gate from 8AM to 4PM on Oct. 9. Attendants will be on hand to
assist donors; receipts will be given. If you cannot deliver your donations, just call 1-540-292-9338 in advance to arrange for pick up.
Ä 2010 Octoberfest/Celebration of Autumn: Lake Monticello’s major fall event for the whole
family returns on Sat., Oct. 16, from 10AM through 3PM, at the Clubhouse. The schedule of activities will be
distributed to mailbox cubbyholes this weekend. Look for old favorite activities and more. Volunteers needed: If
you can work for an hour or more on Oct. 16, we would greatly appreciate your time. We need help to make sure
we will be able to offer all Octoberfest activities residents have come to enjoy. Call the Administration Office at
589-8263 to volunteer. Many thanks for your assistance.
Ä Artists and crafters needed for Fall Craft Fair: Spaces are going fast, so reserve yours now for this highly anticipated
annual event at the Lake Monticello Clubhouse on Sat., Nov. 13, from 9AM to 3PM. The cost to set up inside the Clubhouse is $35 per
space, including a table, or $25 with your own table. Cost to set up outside with your own table is $25. Reserve your space by calling
Andrea at 589-8263, ext. 102.

SPECIAL FLYER BEING DELIVERED THIS WEEKEND: A special flyer with more information about the “Second Chance” Day and
the Schedule of Events for Lake Monticello’s annual Octoberfest/Celebration of Autumn will be delivered to mailbox cubbyholes on Oct.
2 -- 3. The flyer also will be available in the Clubhouse lobby and on the website at www.lmoa.org by clicking on the link on the
homepage.

ARE YOU FIREWISE? The VA Dept. of Forestry‘s Firewise program offers homeowners tips to help reduce fire risk
to their homes and community. A program on the Firewise program will be aired on LMOA’s cable TV channel
10’s “This Week at the Lake” at 9AM and 7PM through Oct. 6. Host/producer Ron Krauss will talk with Forestry
representatives about Firewise and how it can protect Lake Monticello. The Forestry Dept. expects to implement
the program within the community in the coming weeks and will have a display and information available for
residents during Octoberfest on Oct. 16. For more information about the program, go to www.firewisevirginia.org.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS WORK SESSION: The Board will hold a work session on engineering related to needed dam repairs on
Mon., Oct. 4, at 7PM in the Terrace Room. Guests will be Scott and Lisa Cahill of Watershed Services, who performed repairs on the
main dam low level drain in 2005. No action will be taken at the meeting. All welcome. Time will be allotted for member comments.

PROPOSED 2011 OPERATIONS BUDGET TO BE PRESENTED: Staff will present the proposed operations budget to the Finance
Committee and Board on Tues., Oct. 5, at 6PM in the Terrace Room. All members are welcome to attend budget meetings. Time will
be allotted for member comments.

CELEBRATING THE LAKE MONTICELLO SPIRIT of the members of the Water Safety Patrol, volunteers who patrol the lake
every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day to assist lake users and promote boating safety.

FIRE CAUTION ABOUT COMPACT FLORESCENT LAMPS (CFLs): Many of you recently received the viral email warning of the fire
danger of using CFLs with dimmer switches. Is the warning valid or just more internet sensationalism? LM Fire & Rescue Squad
President Len Bozza had this to say: “Lake Monticello Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. reminds residents not to use CFL
bulbs with dimmers unless they are specifically designed for such use. Most are not suitable for use with dimmers and could cause a
fire risk.”

FALL 2010 STATEWIDE ELECTIONS will be held on Tues., Nov. 2. If you are not registered to vote at your current address, you
have until 6PM on Oct. 12 to register. For more information about voting, go to the Virginia State Board of Elections website at
www.sbe.virginia.gov. To learn about the offices up for election and candidates running for those positions, see the 2010 Fluvanna
Voter’s Guide, a non-partisan publication, prepared by the Fluvanna County League of Women Voters. The Guide will be distributed
through the Fluvanna Review the week before the election.
FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN CONTINUES FOR PIER: The most recent report from Bo’s Pier Group revealed that more than
$23,300 has been raised toward the estimated $25,000 needed to construct the community fishing pier. For those who have not yet
donated and who want to be a party in this community effort to establish an important amenity, there’s still time. Donations of any size
will be appreciated. Make out your check to LMOA and mark it for “Pier Fund.” Send to Bo’s Pier Group, 265 Turkeysag Trail, Suite
102, #130, Palmyra, VA 22963. Please note: Donations are not tax deductible. A financial statement is available by written request to
the VA Department of Consumer Affairs.

THE EAGLES NEST ISN’T JUST FOR GOLFERS! It’s your neighborhood eatery, with delicious hot breakfast specials daily, a
tantalizing breakfast buffet on the weekends and mouthwatering combo lunch choices every day. Located on the upper level of the Pro
Shop; open 7:30AM to 2PM daily.

SLICE ROAD FRIDAY FLYER BOX IS BACK: A temporary Friday Flyer box has been installed at Fairway (Slice Rd.) Gate until the
