Chapter: 3 SUBTRACTION
objective : Able to recall properties of subtraction and 2 digit s ubtraction.
We use subtraction when we need to
* find out how many are left.
* compare groups.
* find out how many do not belong to a group.
Minus ‘ - ‘ is the symbol of subtraction.
15 – 5 = 10
(Minuend) ( Subtrahend) (Difference)
*The answer in subtraction is called the difference.
Properties of subtraction.
* When we subtract a number from itself, the answer is always zero .
EXAMPLE:
20 – 20= 0
100 – 100 = 0
* When we subtract zero from a number , the answer is the number itself .
EXAMPLE:
12 – 0 = 12
45 - 0 = 45
* When we subtract one from a number, the answer is the number before the minuend.
EXAMPLE:
65 – 1 = 64
79 – 1 = 78
Fill in the blanks.
1. 29 – 1 = _____

2.There are 300 bees ,125 bees are in the hive. How many bees are not in the hive?
Ans : Total number of bees = 300
Number of bees in the hive= 125
Number of bees that are not in the hive = 300-125 = 175
3.The Robot has 200 jobs to do. He does 95 of them. How many jobs does he have left ?
Ans : Total job of the Robot = 200
Number of jobs he done = 95
Number of jobs left = 200- 95 = 105
CHAPTER CHECK UP PG NO : 65
WB MENTAL MATHS PG NO : 41
Mind map
Class test. (10 marks)
GRADE : 3.MATHEMATICS.
DAY : 1 Introduction.
Looking Back:
A Clock tells us to tell the time with the help of its two hands
(short hand and long hand).
The short hand tells us Hour.
The Long hand tells us Minute.
60 minutes = 1 Hour.
30 minutes makes half an hour.
DAY: 2. Reading Time to Quarter past,Half past and Quarter to the
Hour .
Refer TB: page 175.
CW :WB PG NO :95
.
➢ When the hour hand moves from one number to next, one hour
has passed.
➢ When the minute hand moves from one number to next,5 minutes
has passed.
Objective : students will be able to tell the time before and after.
Objective : students will learn the difference between hours and minutes.
Estimating Time :
➢ A minute is a shorter period of time.
❖ An hour is a longer period of time.
Eg: It takes about a minute to tie your shoelaces.
It takes about 2 minutes for traffic lights to change.
It takes about 2 hours to watch a movie.
.
CW: Circle the correct one :
CW :WB pg no :96
.
Objective : students will be able to identify and demonstrate the
important information about an event.
TIME LINE :
➢ A timeline helps you place events in the order that they
happened.

MATHEMATICS.
Chapter :5 Division (Notes).
DAY : 1
Objective: To illustrate the knowledge of equal sharing.
When we want to share things equally OR make small groups, each
group containing the same number of article etc. then the process of
division is applied.
The symbol for division is “ ÷” divided by
Equal sharing
12 ÷ 4 = 3
(Number in all) (Number of groups) (Number in each group)
Eg: When we divide 18 balls into 3 groups, how many balls are in each
group? Write a division sentence to show that ?
20 ÷ 5 = 4
So, 4 pages are needed to equally group the pictures.
C.W : Ex 5 B in T.B Pg.No.96
H.W :Worksheet 2 Pg.No.56 in W.B.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY : 3 Division by repeated subtraction
Objective: To analyse the knowledge of division by repeated
subtraction.
Equal grouping can also be shown as repeated subtraction.
Eg : There are 18 boys who wants to play paintball. If each team has 6
players , how many teams there will be?
A: By using repeated subtraction
18
-6
12
-6
6
-6
0
So, 18 ÷ 6 = 3
Terms used in Division
24 ÷ 6 = 4
Dividend
Divisor
Quotient
.
● The number to be divided is the dividend.
● The number which divides is the divisor.
● The answer after division is the quotient.
Eg : Find the quotient using repeated subtraction
a) 25 ÷ 5
b) 21 ÷ 7
c) How many 6s are there in 48?
d) How many times can you take away 8 from 72?
II. Write the multiplication facts for the following division fact:

DAY : 2 Remainder in division
Objective: To analyse to find the remainder for the given sums.
Remainder is the number that is left over in division . The remainder will
always be smaller than the divisor.

0 Subtract
b) 55 ÷ 5
c) 72 ÷ 6
d) 96 ÷ 8
Example: 34 ÷ 8
Here,
Q= 4 R= 2
Checking,
(Q x Divisor) + R = ( 4 x 8) + 2= 32 + 2 = 34 = Dividend.
Hence it is correct.
6 5 3
- 4 8
5
Here, Q= 8 R= 5
Checking:
( Q x Divisor) + R = ( 8 x 6 ) + 5
= 48 + 5
= 53 = Dividend
Hence, the answer is correct.
b) 33 ÷ 4
c) 43 ÷ 8
