Todd Agnew, an artist who has long challenged listeners to ask better questions, has found at least
some of his needs fulfilled as of late: the need for companionship, family, roots and direction. But that
doesn’t mean Todd finds himself in a place of creative complacency, either. “The perfect version of
me still has a deep need for God,” Agnew says. “It’s the ongoing conversation we have with God:
‘you’re supposed to need me from the beginning. Need is not a bad thing; it’s something that ties
this relationship together the correct way of me being God and you not.’ You really have to learn that
and think ‘that’s what I was made, how I was designed.’ And that’s how this music was designed,
as well.” In short, Todd Agnew is taking care of his artistic need through NEED, his fourth album for
Ardent Records/INO.

Individualistic. A free spirit. Untraditional. In junior high those labels are a death sentence. In adulthood,
they usually describe people the rest of us wish we could be - creative, intriguing people like Audrey
Assad. Truly one-of-a-kind, this intensely honest singer-songwriter is carving out her own unique path in
the music industry and opening hearts to God along the way. Audrey set aside the notion of pursuing
an English degree or studying fashion design and began leading worship in the foyer of a church she
didn’t even attend. Standing by her lifelong conviction to “bloom where you’re planted,” she set out to
do whatever God put in front of her that let her use her gifts. That led to local gigs, worship events and
a four-song demo, recorded by a friend with Garage Band for several hundred dollars. Along the way,
Audrey struck up friendships with 10th Avenue North and Phil LaRue. Next came a move to Nashville
and a five-song EP, Fireflies, recorded in 2008 with LaRue and Paul Moak. It was that recording that
caught the attention of the A&R department at Sparrow Records, but not before Audrey joined Chris
Tomlin on his Christmas tour and album, covering her song “Winter Snow” as a duet.

Paul Baloche has written some of this generation’s most compelling worship songs. He states, “I’ve
realized the value of creating personal worship times. Even though I teach worship, read about it,
and sing about it,” says Baloche. “It’s like prayer. We can talk about prayer, go to prayer seminars,
but there comes a time where we need to just “DO IT”. We were created for His pleasure. We were
created for relationship with the living God. That’s the reality.” For Baloche, living in that reality has
inspired him to write some of the most powerful worship songs of this generation. As a bridge builder
between traditional and contemporary worship, Baloche has literally put words in mouths of believers
all over the world. The Dove award-winning artist has had his songs recorded by Michael W. Smith,
Randy Travis, SonicFlood, John Tesh, and others. He currently has more than 10 songs on CCLI’s top
500 songs performed in churches.

A gifted songwriter and musician, Brenton has written many worship songs, including “Everlasting
God,” “Lord, Reign in Me,” “All Who Are Thirsty,” and “Hallelujah (Your Love is Amazing).”
Everlasting God was released with Survivor and with Sparrow in the States. In 2005 the Browns
reluctantly left London and their home church of Holy Trinity Brompton for California. Since then they
have been welcomed into the Horizon family of churches and have traveled across the States and
beyond leading worship in churches as far afield as Sweden and Korea. 2008 saw the arrival of a
baby daughter called Bella, and Brenton’s second solo project, ‘Because of Your Love.’ Brenton has
been lucky enough to have his songs recorded by Chris Tomlin and Lincoln Brewster. He has 5 songs
in CCLI’s top 100. Brenton’s current radio single, “Adoration” has been gaining momentum as another
congregational favorite.

Lucas Cooper and his wife of 4 years, Amy, live here in Phoenix. Lucas is currently serving as the
worship leader for Scottsdale Bible Church’s contemporary venues. He is passionate about seeing
God’s people live in the freedom God promises and finds joy in leading worship services where that is
the goal. When Lucas isn’t planning and leading worship services, you’d probably find him watching
Sports Center with his weimaraner.

Sandy Hoffman has been instructing and leading Christians in worship for over 24 years. He is the
author of the Beginning and Essential Worship Guitar and Keyboard Books and DVDs. A featured

regular column, “Tips For Tight Teams,” for Worship Musician Magazine. Sandy’s personal mission

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Brian spent much of his childhood taking piano lessons. He
picked up the guitar during his junior year in high school, practicing several hours a week with the
goal of playing well enough to lead worship. He took the musical reins of the high school group at his
church when he was a freshman in college. His involvement with Young Life has allowed him to lead
worship and perform at multiple leadership retreats, area meetings and Arizona State University’s
West Campus college group. Not only that, but Brian was invited to play at multiple Young Life summer
camps from 2006 through 2010, allowing him to witness to over 6,000 campers. Since 2006, Brian

the production manager for award-winning producer, songwriter Greg Nelson. She was also the
production manager for Steven Curtis Chapman’s first four records. For fifteen years Cindy was a
music publisher with two of Christian music’s largest publishing companies, Benson Music Publishing,
and Word Music Publishing. During her nine years at Word, Cindy signed and developed some of
Christian music’s top songwriters including Matthew West, Jason Ingram, and Cindy Morgan. Her
passion is developing skilled and creative songwriters. As a creative music publishing consultant she
provides a variety of services including song catalog assessment, career consultation, songwriter
development, song critique, song plugging, workshop facilitation and A&R resource for independent

Sheri Gould is a graduate of the University of Ill. She has taught voice privately for 30 years. She
has been a worship leader and music director in various local churches since 1986. She was the
director of Good News Productions, an evangelistic outreach involving singing, drama, dance and
original musicals for 13 years. She writes for Worship Musician! Magazine and Front Yard Worship
Magazine and tours the country with her husband teaching and equipping the Body of Christ for music
ministry at such conferences as, Christian Musician Summit, Seminars4Worship, International Worship

since 1985, she her husband Doug reside in New Jersey where she is now home-schooling the last

Greg is a graduate of the Seattle Art Institute with specialized training in recording and mixing. Greg
has spent much of his career working as either an operator or designer. He has trained technical

broadcast TV. Greg will provide overall project direction and design to a project, complete with

and guitar. He studied with Howard Roberts and Mick Goodrick. He has served as a Clinician
for the Yamaha Corporation for guitars, synthesizers, and recording equipment. He has played
professionally and taught for 20 years. Erick has done music composition, recording, and production
for several major networks, including ABC, NBC, ESPN and CNN. Erick has written several books
and articles on synthesizer programming and production. He has worked in music production at
Crossroads Community Church, and has been Music Director at Rolling Hills Community Church. He
is currently on staff at Mt Olivet Church and Highland Community Church. He teaches students of all

Michael is no stranger to the stage. He has been singing since the age of three. Michael sang in
various groups throughout high school and College. He then went on to the Air Force Band and Air
Force Entertainment’s prestigious touring group, Tops in Blue, bringing entertainment to U.S. Air Force
bases all over the world. Although raised in church, Michael met the Lord through his own children,
realizing that he was responsible not only for raising them physically, but spiritually as well. Michael’s

audition with a group known as the Chasing Furies, whom he went on tour with in support of Jars of
Clay. He has since spent the last 10 years in Nashville playing for artists and bands like Luna Halo,
LaRue, Shaun Groves, Chris Rice, Ginny Owens, Christine Dente, Sonic Flood, Brenton Brown, Tim
Hughes, Matt Maher, Micheal Gungor Band, Sarah MacIntosh, and many others.

demonstrate important concepts like *mapping out a song *improving your timing
*thinking like an arranger *band dynamics and tempo *guitar vs. piano driven
songs *making music more emotional *creating an atmosphere of worship

We’ll look at “In Focusing Worship”. This chart helps worship teams understand
their function and roles in helping the congregation to worship.

In this class we will determine the needs of the group and provide them with Room
examples that they use immediately, and can be expanded on in the future.
We will discuss using the CAGED system for developing new chords ideas for
worship songs. How to transpose into other keys, and using capos. How to create
tasty fills using Major scales, and various pentatonic scales, the use of fourths.
The second half of the class will look at Jimi Hendrix comping and it’s application
in worship.

This session will go beyond the basics of microphone theory and technique, Room
and get to the very practical applications of multi-miking the modern worship
platform. We’ll review various “tips and tricks” the pros use to improve their live
sound mixes right at the sources - on stage. If you know microphone basics, but
sometimes still find yourself struggling with mic selection or proper technique for
certain applications, this session will interest you. Live multi-media support will
enhance the concepts discussed. Not quite for the beginner. Prerequisite - basic
understanding of microphone types and usage.
