PART A – (8× 2 = 16 marks)

1. What do you understand by unsymmetrical bending? Explain a method to find

the stress in unsymmetrical bending.
2. Define shear center and indicate the shear center for channel section and angle
section.
3. Draw shear flow diagram for I section and Channel section.
4. Define shear flow. How the shear stress is obtained from the shear flow?
5. Bending of a symmetric section subjected to a skew load will be
(symmetrical/unsymmetrical).Explain.
6. Derive Bredt Batho formula?
7. What is meant by neutral axis?
8. List down various structural components of aircraft.

PART -B
1.Find shear flow around the channel section. It is subjected to a vertical shear load
of 4.8 kN acting in shear center. Assume wall area ineffective only. Shear resisting
only shear stress while a booms of area 3000mm2which is carrying.

2.Determine bending stress for various corner of the beam cross section as shown by
by neutral axis method. Mx= 8 kNm & My= 10 kNm.

PART -C
1.Sketch the shear force distribution for a thin wall channel section shown in fig. It is
subjected to a vertical shear force Sy and also locate the shear center. Assume wall
thickness t= Constant.
