PT x is one of the coal companies that perform mining activities in the coal sector by applying open mining

system and open pit method where the form of mining front is tiered or called bench. The purpose of this
research is to study and know the level of safety on the slopes of mining front as well influence factors of
slopes instability so that factors can be eliminated in order to maintain the sustainability and safety of
mining. The method used in this research is the simplified bishop method where the expected result is ≥
1.25. This study was conducted in Pit B by making 3 cross sectional pieces depicting the actual condition
of the mining front. A 1-1 ', 2-2', and 3-3 'cross section yield the same value of security factor. Based on
the value the 2 outcrops are declared safe and stable while 1 outcrop is in a state of vulnerability to
avalanches. The presence of a weak plane on the slope may cause an avalanche and therefore a field
mapping is necessary to predict the direction and shape of the landslide so that this event can be avoided
in the future.
