• Understanding the concepts involved in Information Technology provided in ITC 1340
• Ability to use application software taught in ITC 1340
4. Course Description
In today’s business environment, software applications may provide managers with the required knowledge to take
swift business decisions. This course builds upon the knowledge disseminated in ITC 1340 course offered in first
year to provide the knowledge and skills required to use application software for organizational productivity and
decision making. The course focuses on four areas: using spreadsheets as a decision-making tool, using databases
for business intelligence, using online applications for information retrieval and information dissemination on the
World Wide Web, and using Software Applications for collaboration in the workplace.

5. Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
By the time students finish the course, they should be able to:
5.1. Identify the information needs of an organization and create/modify suitable spreadsheet based models for
decision making
5.2. Provide the essential knowledge and skills required to develop and manage databases used in an
organizational environment.
5.3. Create an online presence which could be used by an organization for promoting its products or services using
online applications.
5.4. Gain an awareness on different types of collaborative software and platforms which are used in organizations
today.

8. Assessment Procedure

9. Course Policies
9.1. Attendance
Students are expected to attend lectures every week. It is the responsibility of any student who is absent to
refer and catch-up any missed sessions before participating the next lecture session. The acceptable ratio of
attendance for this course, is the default for 2nd year course of the Faculty, i.e. 80%. If you are absent from
lectures due to any extenuating circumstances such as illnesses, any requests supported by documents such
as Medical certificates should be directly handed over to your course lecturer before the last week of
lectures. Students who’s attendance is less than 80% and have not submitted any appeals as mentioned
above are at the risk of not receiving admissions to sit for the final paper.
9.2. Late submissions
All assignments should be submitted by the deadline. Late submissions upto one week from the deadline
maybe accepted in certain circumstances, but will be penalized.
9.3. Information and announcements
The main source for All course related announcements is the course LMS. Students are advised to check it
weekly.
9.4. Academic integrity
Students are expected to maintain to high standards in honesty and ethics in all course related academic
activities. Activities which are considered unethical include but not limited to signing for others in
attendance, copying / plagiarizing using others assignments or the Internet. Violators will be dealt with using
existing Faculty and University rules and regulations with regard to such acts of academic misconduct.
9.5. Classroom discipline
Students are expected to collaborate with the lecturer to keep the classroom a stimulating learning
environment. Behaviors such as chatting with others during lecture sessions may affect other’s learning
opportunities. Phones should be kept on silent mode at all times. Unless you are explicitly indicated to do
so, you should refrain from accessing websites/Internet during lecture sessions.
9.6. Cancellation Policy
Generally, the course lecturer will strive to conduct all sessions. If for any unforeseen circumstances the
lecturer cannot conduct the session, a replacement lecturer will conduct the session. If the session cannot
proceed due to any other reason, every effort will be made to inform the students of such changes via the
LMS (Top of the course information).
Likewise the if student groups have any official reason to reschedule the lecture, such request will only be
considered if they are sent with the recommendation of the head of department concerned. Please note
that such requests must reach the Subject Coordinator – ITC 2340 via Head, Department of IT. Please ensure
that a scanned (PDF) copy of the letter is emailed in advance. Note that positive consideration will be subject
to the availability of labs and free time for resource persons.
If students have skipped attending a lecture due to any other reason than the above, they would be marked
“absent” in the attendance list.
