Purpose
This manual describes the hardware structure and features of ZXUR 9000 UMTS, including
the cabinet, subracks, boards, and cables.

Intended Audience

Chapter 1
Overview
ZXUR 9000 UMTS Hardware Features
The hardware system ZXUR 9000 UMTS is based on the ETCA hardware platform,
providing the following features:
l Provides a new ETCA platform after making partial improvement on the basis of ATCA
standard.
l Provides various external interfaces, satisfying the all-IP requirement and being
compatible with traditional network (such as E1 and STM-1) access.
l Adopts the structure of control stream and service stream being completely separated.
l Supports 1+1 backup for the interface boards, supports load sharing for the switching
boards, supports 1+1 backup for the control-plane processing boards, and supports
load sharing for the user-plane processing boards.
l Standardizes internal interfaces and reduces the association between the lower layer
and the applications.
l Supports the evolution towards IPv6.
l Protects the operators' investment by supporting the future development of networks,
the multi-mode wireless system applications, and evolution towards LTE and HSPA+.
l Provides a green system solution by reducing the number and types of boards and
shelves. Limits the maximum configuration into a single rack.

Rack
The ZXUR 9000 UMTS rack consists of the top frame, base frame, posts, rails, and side
door.

Composition
The ZXUR 9000 UMTS hardware system consists of the following parts:

Includes the rack, cabinet door, and subracks.

l Subracks
Include the power distribution subrack, ventilation subrack, and service subrack.

l Boards
Include the front board, rear board.

l Cables

Include internal cables and external cables.

Cabinet Frame
ZXUR 9000 UMTS cabinet frame is comprised of bottom frame, top frame, stand column,
regulator, side door.

Cabinet Door
The ZXUR 9000 UMTS cabinet is equipped with a front door and a rear door that can be
opened and closed, and two removable side doors.
The front door and the rear door have the same structure. They both have fine ventilation
holes, which ensure good heat dissipation.

l Figure 2-3 shows the structure of the cabinet's front door and rear door.

3.1 Power Distribution Subrack


Power Distribution Subrack Functions
The power distribution subrack is also called Power Distribution Unit (PDU). It is installed
at the cabinet top, providing power supply for the entire cabinet.
PDU implements functions including power distribution, short-circuit protection, lightning
protection, and power supply and environment monitoring.
l Power distribution: Both input and out of PDU support dual redundancy. PDU provides
a pair of three inputs and a pair of ten outputs.
l Short-circuit protection: Each output is equipped with a circuit breaker for output
control and short-circuit protection.
l Lightning protection: The lightning protection module inside PDU provides a rack-level
lightning protection. It works with the lightning protection units of rack and boards to
form a multi-level lightning protection system.
l Power supply and environment monitoring: The monitoring involves the voltage,
circuit-breaker status, rack and equipment room access control, temperature,
humidity, smoke, infrared, and lightning protection.

Orange ON: The power distribution subrack is not configured after


initial power-on.

COM Red RS485 Flashing at 1 Hz: The link is operating properly with data
communication exchanging.
indicator OFF: There is no power supply input or no data
exchanging.

Power Distribution Subrack Switches


There are 20 switches on the front panel of the power distribution subrack. They are divided
into two groups: group A and group B. Each group has 10 switches. Each service subrack
has two power boxes. Each power box has two power supplies, and each power supply is
connected with two output power cables of PDU. Table 3-2 describes the switches of the
power distribution subrack.

3.2 Ventilation Subrack


Ventilation Subrack Functions
The ventilation subrack is used to change the vertical ventilation pipe to be the front-to-back
ventilation pipe, to effectively cool the service subrack.

Ventilation Subrack Working Principles


Figure 3-5 illustrates the working principles of the ventilation subrack. The horizontal cool
wind comes into the front panel of the ventilation subrack, then the wind changes to the
vertical , which helps effectively cool the service subrack.

3.3 Service Subrack


Service Subrack Functions
The service subrack implements functions of service processing, switching, and interfaces
through the boards installed inside it. Shelves fall into the control shelf, resource shelf,
interface shelf and switching shelf.

Backplane
The backplane is a kind of board which providing slots for the front board and the rear
board to interconnect with each other. Both the front and rear boards are installed on the
back plane. Boards in the same shelf are connected through the printed wire instead of
cables, which improves the reliability.

3.3.1 Fan Subrack


Fan Subrack Functions
The fan subrack performs the heat dissipation function for the front and rear boards, it also
performs the fan status monitoring and speed-control function.

Fan Subrack Structure


Each service subrack is equipped with three fan subracks, two of which are front subracks,
and one of which is rear fan subrack.
The front fan subrack structure is shown in Figure 3-9.

l 0 indicates that the jumper is on and 1 indicates that the jumper is removed. The
jumper positions are ordered from lower to higher. All jumpers are not inserted with
a jumper cap except for the jumpers 1, 2 and 3, it indicates that the shelf is the third
shelf of the 8th rack.
l Jumper position 7 is always not inserted with a jumper cap.
l Jumper position 8 (check position) is the odd check, which ensures that the jumper
caps on ECDM are odd number of caps. If the number of jumper caps on the ECDM
is an even number, the system will display that the jumper is incorrect.

Note:
One service subrack is configured with two ECDMs. You should make sure that the jumper
configurations at two sides are consistent, and the configured rack and shelf information
is the same.

4.1.1 UMP Front Board


UMP Functions
Universal Management Process Board (UMP) provides the following functions:
OMM function.
NE operation and maintenance. This board provides external GE interfaces to connect to
the EMS server through rear boards EGBS or EGBS2a.
1 + 1 backup.

Note:
When UMP performs OMM function, it is inserted in slots 5 and 6 in the master shelf.
Through the network port at EGBS/EGBS2a, it is connected with the switch, which is then
connected with EMS server and O&M module client.

EDTA DIP Switch


On an EDTA board, you can configure the transmission mode for the E1 line through DIP
switches S1 to S16. If S1 to S16 are set to ON, the E1 line is set to the 75 Ω unbalanced
coaxial transmission mode. If S1 to S16 are set to OFF, the E1 line is set to the 120 Ω
PCM line balanced transmission mode.

The monitoring signals are led to the cabinet top through the monitoring cable H-MON-025.
Configure the sensor as needed when installing the rack.
For the monitoring signal cable H-MON-025, the end of power subrack connects the
SENSOR (DB15) interface on the PDU backplane. There are four DB9 interfaces at the
sensor end, which is used to connect different sensors.

If there is no need to configure sensor cables, the plugs at end B of the cables must be
covered with plastic protection sleeves.

Descriptions of the
Configuration of the 485
Communication Port on the
PDU
Description
A PDU consists of a PDUM and a PDUB. The PDUM is on the front panel the of the PDU.
The PDUB is on the rear panel of the PDU. The PDUM and PDUB are connected through
two 34-core busbars.
The PDUB provides interfaces for the external temperature and humidity sensor, power
input, door access control, lightning protection, fan monitoring and 485 communication.
The signals are connected to the PDUM through 34-core busbars. When the 485
communication function is tested on site, the jumper and rack configuration DIP switch
should be set carefully on the PDUM and the cascade cables should be connected
carefully, or the communication may be disconnected.
For the positions of the 485 jumper, rack configuration DIP switch and voltage type DIP
switch on the PDUM, see Figure 6-1.

If the voltage type DIP switch is set to 1010, it indicates that the voltage type is 60 V DC.
If the DIP switch is set to other values, the voltage type is 48 V DC.

The 485 jumper has five rows of two-pin jumper blocks, which are 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8
and 9-10 from left to right, see Figure 6-2.

2. PDUB configuration
The PDUB has two RS485 ports (RS485 (IN) and RS485 (OUT)). Select the RS485
(IN) or RS485 (OUT) port and connect the port to the EGBS RS485 interface with a
network cable.

Scenario Two: Multiple Racks


1. PDUM configuration
In case of multiple racks, for the configurations of the 485 jumpers and rack
configuration DIP switches on the PDUMs of each rack, see Figure 6-4.

The 485 cables on the PDUBs should be connected in the following way:

l For the two RS485 ports on the first rack, the RS485 (IN) on the left should be
connected to the RS485 port on the EGBS board and the RS485 (OUT) port
